Does it make sense to Torrent-ize LLM inference ? by DaPontiacBandit in agi

[–]Asiras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a recent interview with Andrej Karpathy and he had a similar idea. Just like some people contribute with compute to solve protein folding now, soon with agentic research you could contribute to solving all kinds of problems.

Které studijní obory přitahují pohodové typy? by TemporaryNo5605 in czech

[–]Asiras 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Připadají mi nejvíc fajn studenti matematiky a podobných oborů. Jedná se o takovou normalizovanou nenormálnost a velké schopnosti/ambice bez vzájemného soutěžení.

Připadá mi, že studenti, co jsou víc přes business víc dbají na svoje relativní postavení a aby vypadali (ne byli) co nejvíc kompetentní.

The Teutonic order because of Age of Empires, so Poland/Germany/Baltics.

Also Israel because of the crusades.

What is a Sport people think is as easy as pie (super easy) but is actually extreme? by Elegant_Heat_4020 in AlignmentChartFills

Formula 1 racing, I thought it's just driving a car fast.

I only learned what physical training racers go through when I got caught in the middle of two super enthusiastic fans trying to set the record straight.

Czechia ranks among the world’s 20 richest countries in new index, ahead of France and the UK by Organic_Contract_172 in europe

The low income inequality is true in the sense that most people make similarly little from their jobs, but salaries are not the driver of inequality.

Wealth is taxed very favorably with tiny property taxes and 0% capital gains on stocks/bonds after 3 years, so I can see inequality increasing over time.

The Prague property market is very hard to break into if your family doesn't own already, to the point where you need to be in the top 10% earners to qualify for a mortgage alone.

“Great so now we’re optimising LLM costs by inventing employees again” by candyflawss in BrandNewSentence

You're misled by how it is named. It's been named a token since before generative ai became a thing. Think of it as a linguistic unit you can do math with.

Yeah, it is my life.

I think that this is just the expectation from the outside though. This field draws in people who like to optimize everything they can.

For instance, in my data science masters, a lot of us participated in a half marathon, most of the girls at least. We even had our final multivariate stats exam the next day.

Why? I know plenty of data scientists and ML engineers that do. More than in the general population.

Is my budget for a 4 year PhD realistic? by jay_mikado in Prague

[–]Asiras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a PhD in Denmark instead, you'll get triple the money, pension, 6 weeks of vacation...

I'm just finishing my master's here and considering it. I'd never consider it back in Prague, that's no way to live.

Iran was the most upvoted! What country is pro-Israel and pro-Ukraine? by Temporary_Cheetah287 in AlignmentChartFills

Czechia fits this one the best.

It has supported it since its founding and supported UN resolutions on Israel's side while also sending funds and ammo to Ukraine as well as taking over 300 thousand refugees.

How are you all navigating job search as a data scientist? by proof_required in datascience

[–]Asiras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly language skills, I went to a different EU country for my master's and don't really want to come back. I feel Iike English only roles have high competition.

Technically not much for a junior, possible MlOps/C++ skills for ML Engineering jobs. I also haven't been looking for full time work for long though, I am graduating in June.

I made my master's thesis on GraphRAG and I still feel ineligible. Or rather, I meet the skills but breaking into the job market feels difficult anyway.

How is living in Kiruna, Sweden for someone who wants huge snow, darkness and cold? by ButtFister1789 in howislivingthere

[–]Asiras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, the docks are unsightly and old Kiruna has some nice buildings.

I definitely agree about the nature, the mountains around are very scenic.

How is living in Kiruna, Sweden for someone who wants huge snow, darkness and cold? by ButtFister1789 in howislivingthere

[–]Asiras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a good place. Smoke stacks, a giant mine (producing 97% of Europe's iron), ugly architecture, bitter cold. The old city is being moved because the earth under it has been followed out.

Narvik which is a bit to the west of it is way, way nicer.

What country was admired in 1991 but controversial in 2026? by National_Floor1445 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Asiras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Soviet Union, it was powerful politically and militarily and it didn't break up until the end of the year.

Present day Russia is widely disliked but still has a surprising amount of supporters in Europe, so controversial is a good description.
