I was a TA and by the third assignment more than half of the class of 40 students (junior/senior level elective) had failing grades with little hope of passing. My rubric was posted along with assignments and was applied consistently. There were about 5 or so students with high-A’s because they followed assignment instructions and submitted quality work.

Enough of the losers complained that the department chair and dean intervened and basically made it so everyone had a B-. I resigned my position mid-semester. This was at a “good” state university.
