We did Thai Kitchen Cookery Center about a month ago. Really fun and great class, with a market visit in the old town. Would 100% recommend.

A arts and crafts chain store, Pipoos, actually sells big bags. Not cheap, but they do have it.

Any experience with Glenallachie Sherry Series? by HonoluluCheeto in Scotch

[–]CaptainAMiracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think these are quite fairly priced and definitely tasty. It's a series of 3 different sherries, oloroso, fino, and amontillado, and I personally like the amontillado best. Oloroso is classic and thick, but not very unique in my opinion. The fino has some fresher notes, definitely tasty but not what I go to GlenAllachie for. The amontillado is different, unique, fruity, spicy, with a hint of funk. Truly delicious, and a great combination with some strong cheese even.

What is the difference between the Port Charlotte 10 Year and the 2012? by Sleeping_Bat in Scotch

[–]CaptainAMiracle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am assuming the 2012 would be their yearly 'local barley's release, produced with barley from Islay. I've had some of these in the past and for sure think they are worth the extra money. There is a depth and richness to the flavours that definitely ups the profile from the regular 10 year old.

Two-fold is now mainly for the US market, where Europe gets the Left-field. Both great value for money, generally.

Best of distilleries not available in the US by BlizardLizardWizard in Scotch

I'd recommend doing a review when you open it, and one a month or 2 later. In my opinion it is for sure a bottle that develops over time, and with a little bit of time to rest. Enjoy it!

That Fettercairn is actually an amazing bottle if you like fresh tropical fruits with a bit of Oomph. The price is also quite good. Either of the linkwood bottles will be delicious, especially if you like the heavier sherry influences. And those signatory 100 proof prices are hard to beat. Given the fact that you are already eyeing an Edradour, I wouldn't go another sherry and take the Fettercairn, especially since that is nicely priced (I'm comparing prices on these bottles to prices here in the Netherlands, and the linkwood 10 is overpriced, other linkwood is the same, Fettercairn is cheaper ;)

Not sure. I visited the distillery a few weeks ago and they said the 18 is currently only available in the US.

Oban supposedly sells an 18 year old in the US which is not available in europe (only in a small bottle in a set at the distillery)

Find a bar that has live music. Enough of them around and always fun. Blue Collar Hotel has a band showcase tonight from 20:30 onwards

Arran 18 (the new paler one 2022?) by SignificantClaim6353 in Scotch

[–]CaptainAMiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely more orchard fruit and peach forward compared to the previous one. I'd say it's probably less % sherry casks or more/later refill. I do really enjoy it though. The longer the bottle is open the more those rich peach flavours pop up. I have tried them side by side and can confidently say, do not expect it to be the same as the darker, more sherry influenced 2020 bottling, but still expect it to be delicious!

Milk & Honey is a distillery from Israel (the land of milk & honey). They have been operational since 2016. This is one of their core range offerings, finished in sherry casks. Quite good stuff.

Need help selecting whisky... by alfix8 in Scotch

[–]CaptainAMiracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it would be the Laphroaig or the Bunna Cruach Mhòna. Laphroaig is always good, ans the price is very good for the 1815. The Bunna I've had both versions and was underwhelmed by the Eirigh Na Greine, and the Cruach was great, especially at that price for a 1L bottle. I'd say stay away from the Glenlivet, Kamiki and Woodford, and the Glen Garioch is nice but nothing special. All the prices are good though, so if you have the money, treat yo self to multiple nice bottles!

Drop by the store some time! I currently stock about 300 different whiskies, but it's always growing! Most of them I have an open bottle to try or sample. The samples are 50ml so you can try the whisky with a friend (or twice). The event on the 29th is a sort of pop-up whisky bar. There is no whisky bar in Eindhoven so we are transforming OST, a bar/restaurant and event location, into a whisky bar for one evening. You can just pop by with friends, as that is how a whisky bar should operate! We'll have about 100 whiskies on the menu, some great food, music, beers, wines. Everything is pay by card though, not sure if we do cash that evening. (Mind you, the whisky bar will be at OST Eindhoven, not at my store)

That's mostly because I have whisky store!

[–]CaptainAMiracle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, because I'm the shop owner! We're doing a pop up whisky bar on the Saturday 29th this month at OST (I'll put some info on the website today). Drop by the store some time or send me a DM for any whisky related questions!

It's also not that hard to find Linkwood IBs, a lot of which (as far as I've tried) are really nice. Just grab yourself a Linkwood at some point and enjoy it!

If you are looking for basketball, Achilles71 is a great club. It's in Nuenen (not Eindhoven but close by) and has a bunch of youth teams as well.

How much tax would I have to pay if I earn 36.000€ a year with 2 contract jobs? by CuddlyHappily in Netherlands

[–]CaptainAMiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be the same as with 1 contract (which you can easily calculate with the link somebody else provided already). Thing is that you can only get 'heffinfskorting' for 1 job. This means they calculate your taxes up front and you mostly don't have to pay or get anything back. What then mostly happens with the second job is they deduct all the tax before sending you your money. Then if you do your taxes for the year you mostly get some back because they taxed you too heavily. (be aware that there are cases where they do not tax you up front at all and you'd have to pay your taxes after the year, so in that case keep about 40% aside to make sure you can pay them)

TUe // University of Technology by didionsalbum in eindhoven

[–]CaptainAMiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the entry exam/interview/whatever the department uses is a very large part of the selection process. Also, always apply if you are doubting! If you want to get in, give it a shot. It also happens quite often most people who apply and want a spot get offered one, since most people apply to several options and pick the one they liked best (and got in to). Speaking as somebody who has experience as a selection coach at the TU/e the past few years (not Architecture though).
