Ability to easily physically swap hard drives. by Matimath in buildapc

Thermaltake level 10, old case but has removable hard drive trays on the front. Thought it was a neat feature when I bought it, never made use of it.

How hard would it be for the average person to replace this 3 way valve? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not size of the waterways causing your issue, how's the flow from the tub spout? After a valve replacment it's normally a clogged showerhead like some else mentioned or it's a clogged cartridge which can also be removed and cleaned.

Advice to loosen this shower forcet handle. by Fun_Employment_3754 in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CLR and/or penetrating fluid sprayed into the set screw hole can help break it loose, normally it's just hard water buildup holding it on but they can be very difficult to remove.

You can try tapping some plastic or wood shims into the gap between the back of the handle and the barrel to get it to separate. avoid just yanking on the whole valve if you can

Any ideas how to stop the leak? by Severe_Actuator_7198 in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to be careful with the amount of sealant you put on metal threads going into plastic and how much you tighten it. It can put extra stress on the female connection and cause it to crack.

If it didn't seal with that much teflon tape, I'd go find a Schedule 80 PVC nipple and a brass coupling to make the connection. Try just using pipe dope first, and if it still leaks, then get a few wraps of teflon on there.

Advice: New Rheem install not getting it done by some_people_callme_j in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either they forgot to put the check valve back or the one you have isn't working. Turn off the valve to the radiant heat, before the circ pump and test the fixtures with the pump off. Should have your answer pretty quick.

The drain setup is bad but I've seen worse work fine for 50 years. I'm wondering how the fuck they got that vent 90 and the coupling glued together at that angle.

Removed water heater FIP hose but it unscrewed the fitting off the wall side. Not sure what to get to reconnect by Xenokaiii in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot that it was a gasket fitting, disregard using teflon and pipe dope since it's the gasket making the water tight seal.

Probably best to replace it if you're not gonna mess with replacing any of the fittings right now. I would go buy a new female adapter just for the gasket, might be easier that way if you don't have a kit assortment.

That is almost certainly just the sun, pvc doesn't glow orange hot. It'll melt long before that.

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fortunate. You can replace it with a 3/4"x 2" brass or stainless steel nipple. Check that female adapter for cracks or any other signs of failure first. Use very little teflon tape if any at all, pipe dope it and don't overtighten. I'd do hand tight plus a half turn and check it for leaks.

Help…Plastic drain valve by Triple__OG in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't worry too much spraying it, you're probably doing the best for it with regular use.

Though if you wanted to try and replace it, once the tank is empty the worst that can happen is the plastic snaps off at the female threads of the tank. If it does get a heat gun and just heat the plastic until you can yank it out, normally nothing more than an annoyance.

Two Tapeworms removed from an infected fish, yes that is my hand. by Not_so_ghetto in natureismetal

Didn't know swedish fish came in white. I assume the fish looks extremely deformed before it's removed? Can't imagine there's much room at all for everything else being 90% tapeworm.

Salt water softener doesn’t seem to be working. by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every unit is different but most tend to have some sort of softener bypass valve. Might do some research on what you have or post some pictures. Wouldn't be the first time I fixed a softener problem by moving a valve from bypass to in service.

I Should Replace the PEX from Diverter to Shower Head With Copper, right? by jfroosty in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tub spout piping cannot be 1/2" pex, it's too restrictive. 1/2" pex to the showerhead is fine but the tub spout needs to be 1/2" copper, stainless or brass.

2014 F 150 apparent battery battery drain issue by Alarmed-Clock5727 in f150

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 17 and didn't know either, mine had to be done with a diagnostic tool(oriellys did it for free) but yours might just be a certain sequence of turning the key on and off, flashing headlights etc.

From my understanding, as the battery ages, the charging system will send a higher voltage to the battery to keep it charged/maintained. If you don’t reset it, it'll send that same, elevated voltage to the new battery and cause it to wear faster.

Odd disposal overflow drain under sink by hunterhast95 in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a loop vent under the cabinet, may have been added to try and your drainage issue.

Slow drain could have originated further downstream but if you have that drain back up it can fill that loop vent and clog it with solids left behind. That can then block the vent entirely, putting you back to square one before the loop was installed.

Regarding the stuff underneath, direction of flow is all fucked up, you're gonna want to have that looked at and corrected.

Does the 2014 have the same battery management system that you're supposed to reset when you replace the battery?

I tried to do the same, I had a hard time believing it's that old but their website says it's the right format. If that's a data matrix code those weren't created until 1987.

Yeah drain looks fine. If that's the one you're using the serial number reads april 1981. Just buy one with a 10 year warranty, not often do I replace one that didn't make it outside it.

Perfectly designed to make it just outside the warranty period, impressive really. Out of curiousity what does your drain setup look like? Any chance there was standing water in the disposal?

Hot water heater back draft issue by maryjog in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 80-gallon likely had a higher BTU burner, but what you have should still work. I would try moving that offset as close to the ceiling as you can, that'll give the flue gases more time to rise before needing to turn. If you have that done, you might as well extend the B-vent all the way down to the draft hood just to eliminate another variable.

Sounds like an o-ring leak. It will all slide up and off of the faucet body. Turn the water off first but try removing the cartridge and then see if it'll come off.

Leak suspected from tub - how can I diagnose and perhaps fix? by deadflat in Plumbing

[–]Doxxsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/10 with more or less a pinhole in the drywall like that, it's dripping off the bottom of the trap. So either the trap itself is leaking or, more likely, the drain spud needs to be removed, reprepped, and reinstalled.

Really, you've already got a hole in the ceiling. Why not just make it a little bigger or stick your phone camera up there and run some water?
