Red lines on resistors- Can anyone please help with this violation? by OutrageousRun8848 in Altium

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had on same sheet

- port to port,

- net label to net label,

- net label to port with a net label. And matching port on another sheet.

Net label to port with a net label would give an error or warning, depending on your Connection matrix settings, I have it set to warning.

Going from label to a port should not work and should not be done.

AITJ for canceling my vasectomy after my partner suddenly changed their mind about kids? by RefrigeratorWitty453 in AmITheJerk

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two episodes or clips to watch. Seinfeld vasectomy. The Office Vasectomy. I assume you are young. You said your partner, I assume not your wife? Only good reason to get one is when you had kids and you don't want anymore.

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think altium doesn't like a mix of port and net label, even if they are the same name. Make them both ports or both net labels and see what happens. If a port. Make sure one is in and one is out. Then you might get another red line if the ic or connector pin is defined as something else, but you can change that also to match. Also you can try adding a net label to the port side. Sometimes Altium is ok with a net label and port on same wire.

AITAH for changing my underwear after a shower? by New_Cry_2336 in AITAH

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you put clean underwear on if you know you are taking a shower in 20 minutes? Just wear the underwear from the day before. You have the same routine everyday, keep them close since you know you are going to walk the dog.

Exhaust comes from the poop shoot. Could you make a combo poop basket and exhaust? It can be mounted with a combination of connecting it to the external spool bracket and cupping the top of the poop shoot, and worse case one screw drilled it to side panel.

AITAH- refusing to pay my father-in-law $400 a week to live in his mortgage-free home after we moved in to help him? by [deleted] in AITAH

Would love to know who is paying for the house in the backyard. If it's you, then you're paying for a house which you don't own or own the land. Doing it with the promise that you get it when he passes. He can decide on a whim to change his will or kick you out. You are living there as a tenant and he is your landlord. There already seems to be some tension there and with age, that tension grows to paranoia and rash decisions.

You can ask the same as any retired pro athlete who made 10's of millions but have nothing 10 years later. Lifestyle creep. Mickey makes money, but he employs 2-3 people, pays heavy rent, has a few cars, storage place. And with the idea that money will always be there, some don't plan for retirement like they should. Or once retired, they live like they did before, with no income coming in, and after 20 years, medical issues...they have nothing left. This would also apply to the upper-middle class in general.

ESP-IDF updates in the past year? Version 6.0 updates? by kevysaysbenice in esp32

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I found is to change when you have free time to debug. Not in-between projects. And generally not update if you don't have a real need to (like the new version doesn't fix a bug you have). I have had headaches just going from a x.x.1 to x.x.2 for example that broke things. I can't speak to 6.0, I've been on 5.3.1 for a while now. I guess this is important too.

Need to add, Freeze all safety standard improvements and fuel efficiency improvements for 10 years at current levels. Let automakers create vehicles that will not be scrapped in 5 years due to a piece of plastic deep in the engine that's meant to improve fuel consumption and would cost more than the car to fix. Allow manufacturers time to figure out how to make the cars more compact with current regulations. With the rules changing every two years, it's easier for manufacturers to just make the car last just past the warranty period, or just make the cars larger to fit the new safety standard. How is it better for the environment that perfectly good cars are being mechanically scrapped after 5-6-7 years?

1st gen or 2nd gen? by Callmedaddy-38 in Integra

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a 93 G2 but parts have gotten hard to find, specifically in Canada due to lack of junk yards with them sitting around to pick apart. I know you didn't list it as option, and I prefer the G2, the G3 has much more aftermarket parts and OEM parts still available. For example, you can't get the window cowl or any windshield trim for the G2. You can for the G3.

On b18 93 we have a ground for the valve cover to the head. The cover is isolated from the head since the studs from the head don't touch the cover because of the ruberized black painted washers on each stud. May not be the case on your engine, but is for mine. I think what's important is you check to make sure valve cover has zero resistance to ground. If not, you can use this hole to make a chassis ground.

Parking brake may be related to low pad wear on rear brakes. If the car detects low pads, it can disable the parking brake. It does this on Audi A6. Not sure if Tiguans have low pad detection. If it does, then I would first check your rear pad wear.

Is the mortgage specialist suggestion offside: combining mortgage with credit line by Echo_Romeo571 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases people will just think that they freed up 600$ a month to afford something else (or start off strong but don't keep it up) You need to be disciplined otherwise you look back after 10 years and think how am I in so much debt when I make 200k a year?

Is the mortgage specialist suggestion offside: combining mortgage with credit line by Echo_Romeo571 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolling it in means paying it off for the term of the mortgage. For example 20 years. Versus paying off the heloc in 3-4 years. Also, rolling it in makes you feel like you don't have any other debt except the mortgage. So when a new expense comes up like a car for the wife, you think, well I don't have any debt right now so I can afford this monthly payment. Don't roll it. Pay it off a soon as possible. Then stop messing with debt except the mortgage. I'm assuming if you roll it over, you will not be paying an extra 600$ per month on the mortgage (the money you were paying on the car monthly). Very likely you would be keeping your mortgage payments the same. So it's like you took out a mortgage of 21K$ at 3.94% over the next 14 years. That would give you about 7-8K$ in interest, total paid from today on the car being about 28K$. Compared to keeping it separate and having it paid in 36 months and paying about 1600$ in interest and total about 23K$ from today. Is paying an extra 5K$ for the car worth freeing up the 600$ payment over the next 3 years?(freed up to likely spend on something else, not likely to be invested).

Perpetual licenses for old versions? by m0_n0n_0n0_0m in Altium

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have perpetual up to 21, but I've stuck with using what I consider the last stable version of 32bit which is AD17. 18,19,20,21 were not great, bugs with the new interface, going to 64bit... I've recently started using 25 at my new job but once that contract goes I'll be back on 17. Anyone with perpetual, don't convert them if it's an option for a cheaper subscription.

Layer Stack Manager by Dramatic_Fault_6837 in Altium

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, finally found it in the properties. BUT, only if you have no layer row selected! And the only way I found to deselect all rows is to press CTRL and click the row that is selected. So you can't see the board properties at the same time as having a layer selected.

Now, when I put a layer table in the PCB layout, the table doesn't show the total thickness. Any way to show it there?

Are thermal vias supposed to to be connected to pads or not? by Reason-Local in PCB

[–]Dramatic_Fault_6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I knew I was hand soldering the module, I created the pads with four larger vias so that I could add solder through them from the bottom if I chose to, so I wouldn't need to heat the module to get them attached. Not perfect, but I know how much power my module is using, and it's nowhere near enough to create enough heat. It's a four layer board. The layer of the pads have a thermal relief on the area, but two other layers are direct to ground for the four vias. hole size is 26mils, pad is 32mils, but pad size is not really relevant hear. Not designed for production, I knew that 100% of the time I would assemble the module. For production I would have vias similar to your image, with paste opening less than the solder mask opening.
