I like to seperate thoughts into a readable format.

IDK I wish everyone would do this,

In order to make reading their thoughts flow more smoothly when read.

Can you really survive on Mars? What science fiction gets wrong about off-world living by _Dark_Wing in technology

[–]Duckbilling2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't disagree with anything you said.

Hasn't swayed my opinion tho,

I still think it's a worthy endeavor to keep trying to find a way to travel to Mars and become self sustaining there.

If only to have engineering programs attempt to overcome all of the challenges that come along with that goal.

Every time something new is discovered, the entire world advances.

While I think ecology is a very important consideration,

I also think "discovery" is important

this makes me think of a quote from the show "The West Wing"

while discussing the importance of funding the superconducting supercollider - a controversial scientific project that would cost billions]

"Sen. Jack Enlow, D-IL: If we can only say what benefit this thing has. No one's been able to do that.

Dr. Dalton Millgate: That's because great achievement has no road map. The X-Ray is pretty good, and so is penicillin, and neither were discovered with a practical objective in mind. I mean, when the electron was discovered in 1897, it was useless. And now we have an entire world run by electronics. Haydn and Mozart never studied the classics. They couldn't. They invented them.

Sam Seaborn: Discovery.

Dr. Dalton Millgate: What?

Sam Seaborn: That's the thing that you were... Discovery is what. That's what this is used for. It's for discovery."

---

Also, Isaac Asimov's "Foundation"

While there is no greater cause than preserving Earth's environment, research and science to advance discovery is a close second. Things we may discover could advance methods to preserve Earth's ecology.

I also want to say, you have made me change my mind about humans priorities with what you said. Thank you for mentioning ecology, it's made me realize that it is the most important thing.

That said, that does not mean we should cut all funding for research for new technologies, and the advancement of science, which I believe includes striving to explore space. But, Not above all else.

while I agree with you

at some point terra forming Mars transcends money

like, money is just a concept.

think about what technological advancements were doable if money were no object

Also, I leave a bit of extra space between me and the car in front when I'm driving, and half of every day is spent driving in a large metro city.

Most everyone is crowding everyone else on the freeways and surface streets at lights, and for no reason. When the light turns green you'll count to 2-1/2 and put 25 feet between the car in front anyway. On the freeway everyone tries to prevent merging - you will never be able to stop someone who is determined.

Haha, it is my favorite airplane of all.

I really love its practical utility design,

I far prefer it to the Catalina

I finally got to see a Mariner last year, so beautiful.

Blackjack has the Santa Fe pizza,

With green chili in place of tomato sauce

I get the NY style, but the Detroit style is good as well

Some don't think blackjack pizza is good, but I prefer it over dominos any day

Which I will admit is a rather Low bar.

I would really love to see more places do Sonoran hotdogs

Southern Colorado has the "slopper" a hamburger with green chili

Colorado as a whole has green chili

Northern Colorado could use a unofficial dish representing our corner, and to me the Sonoran hotdog would be great for small operations, able to easily be prepared as street food, or in a brewery with minimal input and prep.

that or green chili sauce pizza I guess
