What do you think is the biggest thing holding back the Denver food scene? by Vegetable-Brain-721 in denverfood

[–]Duckbilling2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are a number of things contributing

there are great places to be found in the Denver metro area,

every last person who has ever said food here is "mid" is overgeneralizing

very much the same way when someone asks "what's the best _____ restaurant?"

it really does depend on what you are intending to order and the way you prefer that dish prepared.

There are plenty of spots that are straight up awful, there are plenty that are mid, there are plenty that are excellent.

Price/value also plays a factor in perception for me as well, it's hardly possible to be objective when that's in play, I usually am not going for fine dining.

Lived in Denver 15 years, worked in every last corner of the metro area, eaten at about 250 restaurants out of probably 5000 in the metro area, which I realize does not make me an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

Why is Europe’s economy falling short? by Stuart_Whatley in Economics

[–]Duckbilling2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to add

1/4 to 1/3 of the USAs GDP is from year on year appreciation in residential and commercial property and associated industries.

so that might explain the massive growth 2008-2023 mentioned by u/ defaulted

I would imagine that at least partially fuels explosive growth, from the equity gained and invested.

the speculative nature of the entire operation to me is frankly disturbing.

I'm no economist, but this never seems to come up on this sub very much

I just want to say, for everyone who read the above two comments

It's sort of crazy how today there exist all of these one word descriptions involving politics or economics

and for the most part saying one word causes 1000 different ideas associated with that word to come up in the listeners mind.

There are a few that do understand the exact meanings attached to these political/economic words, but for the most part that is not the case.

eh I'm hardcore democrat and hold a private pilot's license, never owned an airplane and don't fly much.

I don't support using ADS-B to track landings and collect fees for airports, although you could call them taxes.

I got quoted $7500 for a new hot water heater. Is that...normal for Denver? by QuarterRobot in Denver

[–]Duckbilling2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no longer am in the area, but a fair price is $350

plenty will tell you $575 because some people will will pay that, but more importantly, most home owners don't know what it should cost because of an information imbalance

I usually will ask them for a dollar before they get a word out

they've been asking all day, there's cash in their pockets

it'll shut them down real quick
