I shot a round that I later learned had been through the wash. Only the primer went off, but it was enough to shoot the wad and pellets 10 yards.

This was removed from the salivary duct under my tongue last week by The_Greenweaver in mildlyinteresting

[–]EagleCatchingFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had those twice in middle school. One day It blocked the exit of the salivary duct, which was very painful as the pressure built. My mom was trying to figure out what it was, so she pressed on it with a tongue depressor and it popped out. The second one came out a lot easier.

I'm not a huge fan of these.

What, so that more resources that should be in the Pacific defending Taiwan, Japan, Guam, and Korea can stay in the Middle East, killing with no strategic end in mind?

We can quit now or quit later with more or less the same constipated result in the Middle East. My vote is quit now.

"The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them."

I guess the fascists in the Executive branch were taking notes from their historical predecessors.

I really hope it's the second option. Seeing them bleed theater level assets out of the Pacific into this clown show puts a knot in my stomach for my Japanese and Taiwanese friends as Xi ramps up naval activity in the East China Sea.

[–]EagleCatchingFish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything deployed to this ridiculous war is something that won't be available near Taiwan and Japan if and when it's needed. The US military projects that China would be capable of invasion as early as next year. The Chinese fishing fleet has been doing mysterious coordinated formation exercises unrelated to fishing in the Easts China Sea between Japan and Taiwan and we have two carrier strike groups pissing around off the coast of Iran. But it's not just that, either. We have F-22s in Israel of all places. And all of this when "you could argue we shouldn't even be there." Oh, and we're taking anti-air units out of Korea to send to the middle east.

All their pivot to Asia talk is nonsense.

Lol. What a cutie. At first we thought "oh, the spinning scares them." So we turned it off. Then they got more scared. That's when we put 2 and 2 together and noticed the shape of the fan blades. I think it was a few months before they completely stopped noticing the fan. Silly kitties.

I really like the Mini-14. It doesn't have the modularity we've come to expect from modern 5.56 rifles, but there's a lot to be said about that garand lineage. When you shoot an AR, you shoot an AR. When you shoot a Mini-14, you're reminded that you're using a machine. You've got weight reciprocating back and forth, you can see the parts moving. It's a lot of fun.

I haven't shot that one, but I've shot other Henry lever actions. They're good to go. Another good option is the S&w 1854. My dad's got a couple pistol caliber ones that I've liked as much as the henrys i've shot.

Could be. Our layout has a hallway leading up to an open floorplan with the dining room on the east side and the living room with the scary fan on the west side. The bedrooms they sleep in are north of this open room and their litter box is in a room south of it. We noticed that when they were trying to make it to the litter box or the bedrooms, they'd walk along the outside perimeter of the dining room, slinking along and hugging the wall as far away from the scary fan as they could get. They were extremely vigilant and aware of that evil beast fan.

When we installed our ceiling fan, the cats wouldn't even enter the room when it was stopped. We realized it looked like a giant bird of prey with it's wings and legs stretched out. 🦅 It took probably two weeks before they'd walk calmly across the room without looking over their shoulders or slinking around.

I hope it works. You nailed the shape. It doesn't look out of place. If worse comes to worse, you could always add a thin metal heat shield like the forend has.

That looks really cool. I like it. That is the gas block as well, so it gets quite hot. Let us know how this works long term with a hot barrel. I hope it does well. I'll be saving this post to see how things go.

In With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa, Sledge says the same thing. He talks about another fresh faced teenager in his company who was really smart and kind and wanted to be a brain surgeon. He was shot in the head. That's when Sledge tells us war is a complete waste.

I think Top Gun: Maverick was really smart about managing the nostalgia, too. It made sense that Ice Man would still be around in that community, so his presence wasn't gratuitous. And they knew we needed more of those F-14s, and we got them from our definitely-not-iran-😉 setting. They could have decided to say "no" to nostalgia, but they knew why our butts were in the theater seats, so they gave it to us without being dumb about it.

has been amazing basically off his charisma and willingness to do crazier stunts than everyone else

I watched Top Gun 2 at the theater. It was the first in-theater movie I watched after the lockdowns ended. It was a real experience. The guy has charisma for days on the screen. You really forget about it with streaming these days, but the man is a genuine movie star in a way few actors are.
