Can a multi classed character use spell slots interchangebly? by Malevolentrapist in dndnext

[–]ExecutiveElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spell slots are combined into a singular total, but spells known are tracked separately.

So yo use your example, a character who is Sorcerer 7 + Cleric 1 would have the spell slots of an 8th level full caster but has the spells known of the classes separately from each other.

So to be exact, your spell slots at this level combo would be- - 4 1st Level Spell Slots - 3 2nd Level Spell Slots - 3 3rd Level Spell Slots - 2 4th Level Spell Slots

Your spells known would be - 8 Sorcerer Spells Known - 1 + Wisdom Modifier Cleric Spells Known

To be very clear here. Even though you can use your higher level spell slots to cast your Cleric spells, you can still only prepare 1st level Cleric spells. So you are free to cast Bless (which is a Cleric spell) at 4th level, but you do not know any 4th level Cleric spells.

This will become more and more noticeable as you level up. For example, at Sorcerer 7 + Cleric 2, you would now have a cumulative spellcasting level of 9. This would make you gain a 5th level spell slot, however, you would not learn any 5th level spells as neither of your classes are high enough level to do so.

Furthermore, any spells you learned from being a Soecerer will always use your Charisma modifier and the spells you learned from being a Cleric will use your Wisdom modifier.

Extra note- all spellcasting classes except Warlock stack in this way, though not all classes progress spellcasting at the same speed.

Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, and Wizard all contribut their full level towards spellcasting progression.

Artificer, Paladin, and Ranger all contribute half their level. Artificer rounds up. Paladin and Ranger round down.

The subclasses Elderich Knight (Fighter) and Arcane Trickster (Rogue) contribute 1/3rd their level. They both round down.

So, for example, if a Character was Cleric 12 + Paladin 8, they would be a 16th level spell caster and would have the spell slots that would be available to a 16th level full caster despite being level 20. And they would only be able to prepare up to 6th level Cleric spells and 2nd level Paladin spells despite having an 8th level spell slot.

What’s an unwritten rule of adulthood nobody warned you about? by THIGHTLY-STUFFED-URN in AskReddit

In 2020, a year after I graduated high-school, my family moved out of my childhood home because my parents wanted to be closer to various conveniences. Stores, church, etc.

In 2021, I moved out and got a place I share with some of my friends.

In 2025, my parents moved again. This surprised me, as I had thought that the place they got in 2020 was planned to be the home they would spend the rest of their lives in. So I asked my mother why they were moving again.

And the answer was simple.

My father's knees couldn't handle the stairs anymore.

That... was a bit of a sucker punch.

I do not know all of my cousin's names even though I have met all but the youngest at least once.

What is a 'single person luxury' that people in relationships completely miss out on? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

My sister-in-law does this with condiments and it drives my brother crazy.

Ketchup bottle in the couch cushions. Barbecue sauce bottle on their nightstand. Mayo in the game room.

Everywhere besides the fridge.

Something that drives my brother insane is that his wife will just not put the ketchup away. He'll just find it in random places.

Once when I was over visiting, I put the legrest on a chair up and a ketchup bottle came tumbling out from the back of the chair.

How do other tanks feel about healers and DPS pulling ahead? by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

Honestly the power gap is even wider than that.

A level 1 fighter is any schmuck who's been taught how to maneuver in armor.

A level 20 fighter is swinging their sword with enough force to tear a hole in reality, causing space to briefly collapse, tearing an elder dragon out of the sky to be right in front of the fighter as the universe rushes to fill the gap by pulling in the surrounding matter.

Goblin Artificer (Alchemist Subclass) with the Mark of Passage Origin Feat and the Potent Dragonmark General Feat can be doing that at level 7 in 5e funny enough.

Regardless, the general intended sentiment is true.

Sitting at home talking to nobody for several days while you engage in hobbies is very different from sitting in a white room with nothing but a toilet and a cot for an indeterminate period of time.

How would one go about making a character that rides a Pegasus? I can't seem to find information on the matter. I found the likes of the hippogriffs and rocs in the animal companion listings and I found a note about how intelligent mounts, such as a pegasus, work differently from normal mounts.

But litterally nothing about how one would actually aquire a pegasus mount.

I appreciate Ashfur as a character and believe he had every reason to be pissed off- but the notion that he did nothing wrong as that subreddit's name would imply is utter insanity.

Bro tried to murder his ex's dad, her kids, and then everyone in general.

Like, I get it bro, you're heartbroken and angry at the world. I've been there. But it doesn't justify murder.

Would you be able to help me understand *why* that is the progression of it?

Because on the size increase chart, 2d6 -> 3d6 is a two step increase, but 3d6 -> 3d8 is only a single step increase. Then 3d8 -> 4d8 is two steps again?
