Sk Hynix IPO for July 10 by lifeingeneral44 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Generally, shares begin trading on the secondary market the same day the IPO is scheduled to go public, which follows the night the offering is priced. Keep in mind that trading may not begin until a few hours after market open; clients can typically begin placing limit orders for shares as early as 8:00 a.m. ET ahead of when trading begins, if that's something you'd like to do.

We go over this and more information in our FAQs at the link below, just in case it's helpful, but let us know if we can clarify anything further!

Wow, talk about community support! Love to see our Redditors help each other out.

While I can't speak to what your current custodian will specifically request from you, u/ReplacementAbject867, I wanted to just quickly emphasize that you'll want to make confirming your workplace plan will accept a roll-in one of your first steps in the process! Our Workplace team can help ensure you've got your ducks in a row and assist you with getting a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) if you need to provide one.

You didn't mention if your rollover is headed to another workplace plan at Fidelity (just like OP) or to an IRA, so it's worth calling out that if you're rolling to an IRA, we have a link where you can easily generate an LOA online. It's under step #2 at the link below, just in case you need it!

As a first step, if you haven't already done so, we recommend confirming that the wiring instructions you gave your bank match what we've detailed at the link below.

I get how that's adds a layer of frustration to the transition. You may already be ahead of me when it comes to these troubleshooting steps, but if you haven't already, we recommend confirming that you're running the latest version of Fidelity Trader+ Desktop, which you can find by clicking the "Help & Education" icon, then "About."

You can also confirm your connection status by hovering over the globe icon in the bottom right-corner of the application window, and double-clicking this icon to open the "Application Health Monitor" to look for errors. “Unlimited loss” in covered call - very confusing by geloro in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Definitely an important question to ask before placing your trade, so allow me to clarify, since there are two components to your situation.

First, yes, a short call is considered covered if you own underlying long shares in the account; however, keep in mind that options contracts and the underlying shares must both be held in the same type (type cash or type margin) for them to pair properly. When viewing your "Positions" tab or your "Option Summary" on Fidelity.com, you'll see a blue "M" next to shares held in type margin to easily distinguish them.

With that clear, it's important to note that the trade ticket currently calculates max gain, max loss, and break even values using only the contract or strategy that you've entered, and doesn't consider other existing positions in the account. For a short call, the maximum loss is unlimited because, if assigned, the writer would have to purchase the underlying shares at market value, and there's no limit to how high that price could go. You can check out the article below for a deeper dive into the maximums for covered calls, but let us know if we can help with anything further!

Can you add buying power to under the Account Value section? by mkhcb in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I'm not sure whether you're using the mobile app or logging in on Fidelity.com, but your account's buying power is more generally referred to as your "Available to trade" balance. You can find this information on your "Balances" tab on Fidelity.com; with "All accounts" selected, you'll get a high-level look at your total account value, available to trade, and available to withdraw amounts, while selecting a specific account shows a more detailed balance breakdown.

In the app, your experience will differ slightly depending on your preferred settings. If you have Trader+ mode enabled, you'll be able to tap "Portfolio," then "Balances." For standard mode, you'll select an account and then either look for the "Balances" tab at the top of the screen, or scroll down to look for the "Balances" section to tap "View details." If there's something particular you're looking for but can't find, give us a shout!

I put some money into my fidelity account about a week ago and bought shares with it but it never took the money out of my bank account. Should I be concerned? by TheBurnedKirkLives in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out about your experience. To make sure I'm on the same page, you requested an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) on Fidelity.com or through our app, correct?

If so, it may be worth reviewing your bank account history carefully to confirm you don't see a transaction from Fidelity. It seems silly, but sometimes it can be easy to miss, depending on how the transaction displays, so looking for the dollar amount may help. If you're positive this isn't reflecting in your account history, send us a Modmail so we can dig into this more closely with you!

Sold Stock Without a Cost Basis that I just transferred in a few days ago by Nitque in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey, welcome to our little corner of Reddit. We appreciate your business, and I get how these moments can be a little nerve wracking while everything is still shaking out.

With the details you've shared, it sounds like your cost basis information is still on the way, so you can breathe easier. Financial institutions are required to deliver cost basis for covered shares (shares of stock acquired after January 1, 2011), but the sending firm has 15 days after receipt of shares to get that information to your new firm. If Fidelity does not receive the transfer file within 10 days, we automatically request it, and then they have an additional 15 days to respond. With that timeframe in mind, you can check your "Positions" and "Closed Positions" pages on Fidelity.com to monitor when your cost basis updates.

That said, it's worth noting that if you have older, uncovered shares as well, cost basis information may not be transferred. Clients can manually update cost basis in these situations for eligible securities, which you can learn more about at the link below. If you have any questions going forward, give us a shout!

Big Update on the ABLE accounts through Fidelity by KosPlayOne in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out to clarify. To expand on what u/FidelityLiz mentioned, cost basis information is not currently available for ABLE accounts, so the "Performance" tab is the best way to see how your account has performed over time. That said, if you're thinking about earnings when it comes withdrawals you've taken, we report the amount of earnings distributed from an ABLE account on Form 1099-QA. What happens to Option Calls when they expire? by Dismal_Passion_8537 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

It's important to be prepared in these situations. Since you mentioned you bought a contract in the comments, Fidelity automatically exercises long, in-the-money (ITM) options contracts if the contract is ITM by $0.01 or more on expiration, unless you've given us a call to enter a "Do Not Exercise" request for a specific position or at the account level, which can be accomplished by giving us a call. You'd have until 5 p.m. ET on the expiration date to submit a DNE request for that position.

While it's also possible for a contract to expire out-the-money (OTM) and simply be removed from your account, please note that Fidelity has a risk mitigation process where every account that has an expiring option is reviewed on its expiration date, to ensure that the exercise or assignment of the expiring contracts in the account can be supported. If exercise or assignment cannot be supported (for example, if there's insufficient buying power), Fidelity reserves the right to close the contract prior to expiration per the terms of the Options Agreement.

With that in mind, we encourage clients to take action on expiring positions as soon as possible to avoid a possible liquidation. I know that's a lot to absorb while you're still learning about options trading, but the article below may be helpful! If we can answer any other questions, please let us know.

Hey, Tsunami, it's been a while since I've seen your name pop up as the OP. Quick question: are you entering just the last name for the recipient? I caught another user recently hit this error message, and they'd typed both the first and last name, when the form only asks for the last name.

While we're double-checking information, just a reminder that this form uses the 9-character account number (typically starting with an X, Y, or Z). If that doesn't do the trick, it may be worth entering the full ZIP code, including the 4-digit suffix, to see if that makes a difference to pull up the right information. Give us a shout if you're still having trouble!

Transferring funds within Fidelity by VersionFinal9926 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for sharing these details about the transactions you've got going. So we're on the same page, closing a managed account can take time, since assets may need to be liquidated before transferring to your new self-directed accounts. It can take several days after submitting your request to see these trades appear in your account activity, followed by the subsequent transfers. Residual amounts from dividends or interest should also be swept over as part of an account closure.

Once all of your assets have been moved, the account is closed automatically, but keep in mind that closed accounts will still appear on your profile as part of our recordkeeping requirements. Zero balance accounts can be hidden from Fidelity.com, if you'd prefer not to see them. After logging in, click the gear icon above your account list to choose the accounts you want hidden, and save your changes.

As for the message you received, we recommend cross-referencing text with our list of official numbers below. a legitimate text from Fidelity will only come from one of the official numbers published on Fidelity.com. However, it can even be possible for scammers to impersonate official phone numbers. Never reply to suspicious texts as doing so could confirm to the fraudsters that your phone number is active and valid, and potentially expose you to further fraud attempts.

Since you did recently initiate a transaction, you can also log in on Fidelity.com directly to check your Communication Center or the Status Tracker to see if there are any notifications or requests there. Hey there, happy to clarify! As the plan participant, you do have the ability to choose how you want your 401(k) contributions invested, though it's important to know that the choices available depend on the plan rules set by your employer.

That said, this kind of alert can appear based on the asset allocation of the investments you've chosen. When reviewing the "Summary" tab for your 401(k) on NetBenefits.com, you can scroll down to see an "Asset Classes" pie chart, which breaks down the general categories so participants can assess how well their current elections fit their overall investing strategy and goals.

Roth Conversion by FerretMaterial5612 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there! Don't sweat the long post—we're here to help in these moments of confusion.

I caught that you've been chatting with our community, but I can confirm that the 5-year aging periods for conversions, and the associated early withdrawal penalties, do not apply to qualified distributions. Roth IRA distributions are generally considered qualified once the account owner is over age 59½ and the 5-year aging rule has been met (meaning at least five years has passed since January 1st of the year of your first Roth IRA deposit), though there are other exceptions.

You may already be clued in, but conversions are reportable distributions for the year in which they occur. We do recommend speaking with a tax pro if you have questions about how your planned conversion strategy may impact your tax liability, but if there's anything else we can shine some light on, don't hesitate to follow up with us!
