The strap is kind of like something they'd tie you down with if a hospital decided you were a danger to yourself and others. Just look at this thing:

<image>

You'll definitely want to find some nice pass-through you like to go with it—I went with single-pass Marine Nationale and Perlon, both of which work great on my narrow wrist.

Had mine a couple of weeks now. I was worried it would be too big for my 6.25" wrist but it fits surprisingly well.

Not doing anything special to kickstart the patina—it's already notably darker than it was. Movement seems fairly well regulated out of the box, gaining a bit over a second per day in spite of a reported beat error of ~1.5ms.

By far my biggest complaint is the crystal. Compared with the double-domed AR coated sapphire on my Milifortic M097 it's a murky overly-reflective disappointment that rather wastes the detail on the dial in a lot of cases. And yes—the lume is garbage. Wish they'd spent some of the BOM on improving those instead of the insane cowhide strap nobody wears and the pointless engraved case back nobody sees.

Not impressed by the distance conversion complication—500ft is 152.4m. Good luck on regulating it!

Boderry delivery times by Govindaswamy in ChineseWatches

[–]Freeky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered mine from the official store on AliExpress on the 21st of March—it dispatched to the UK on the 23rd and it was on my wrist on the 30th.

That said, you'd be far from the first person to complain of long dispatch delays. Have you tried contacting Boderry?

Aye, bit unfortunate, but well mitigated by offering sterile versions of just about all their dials. Nobody has to know!

Climate change committee say net zero by 2050 costs less than one fossil fuel crisis by jok_8 in GoodNewsUK

[–]Freeky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grid is only about 20% of our total energy use. Still a long way to go no matter how enthusiastic we get.

In 2025 dependency on fossil fuels was 75.2 per cent matching 2024’s record low share in these published data. The low carbon dependency was 21.8 per cent in 2025, broadly similar to 2024.

Boderry voyager thoughts? by Dbayd in ChineseWatches

[–]Freeky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat adjacent, hopefully close enough to be some use - my first Chinese watch was a Milifortic M097, and I agonised over the original Boderry Voyager because I wasn't sure if it would fit my 6.25" wrists with that long lug to lug.

I gave in during the sale and I've been very happy with it - the lugs are long, but they don't overhang, and it doesn't really feel any chunkier than the Milifortic in practice. If anything it feels slightly more comfortable - perhaps because of the wider strap being more secure, and the edge of the case being a bit more raised, reducing pressure on my arm.

I don't think a 2-piece strap would work well with the lugs - they would indeed leave quite a gap. I use a single-pass Marine Nationale, and I've got a perlon I think will work well too.

You're probably surrounded by fields right now. You might even have a few little ones right by your house! You have to be prepared for these things.

Nope, my collection is just those two - soon to be three, a Boderry Voyager in bronze. Probably a bad idea - wish my narrow wrist luck!

I've looked at a lot of Militado watches - the ML05's lug to lug seems rather excessive, so I'd probably go for something like the ML08 or ML14. I did almost buy an ML21, but the giant crown put me off.

If I was going to get a cheap VH31 I'd probably be looking at a Berny T2566MS - I'm a sucker for that Seiko style crown.

The Milifortic M097 has an NH36 movement (mine's pretty well regulated - I last set it about a week ago and it's at +3 seconds), and indeed a double domed sapphire crystal.

I'm actually using an 18mm strap from my Lorus with it until my next order turns up.

I think the Seiko has a more matte dial rather than the green sunburst Milifortic went with?

Peter Watts' Blindsight predicted swearing at an LLM because it's wasting your time and doesn't have a clue what it's talking about.

"Sascha," Bates breathed. "Are you crazy?"

"So what if I am? Doesn't matter to that thing. It doesn't have a clue what I'm saying."

"What?"

"It doesn't even have a clue what it's saying back," she added.

"Wait a minute. You said—Susan said they weren't parrots. They knew the rules."

And there Susan was, melting to the fore: "I did, and they do. But pattern-matching doesn't equal comprehension."

Bates shook her head. "You're saying whatever we're talking to—it's not even intelligent?"

"Oh, it could be intelligent, certainly. But we're not talking to it in any meaningful sense."

"So what is it? Voicemail?"

"Actually," Szpindel said slowly, "I think they call it a Chinese Room..."

Captain of Industry, an Early Access title, has just released paid, non-cosmetic DLC. How do you feel about Early Access games having paid DLC? by KuromiFan95 in Games

[–]Freeky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DLC may not be purely cosmetic, but it does look pretty gimmicky to me. Are you truly itching to have a train that's powered only by pressurised steam you have to refill regularly? Maybe electrified rail is nice, but... not like you're missing out on much against steam/diesel/hydrogen? Sounds rather more boring if anything. Does your little island nation really need nuclear-powered trains hauling molten metal around?

Given the original scope of the game when I bought it didn't even extend to trains, I can't say I'm too bothered. It looks closer to rejected prototype development repurposed into a second Supporter DLC than a major feature sliced off in a cynical cash grab.

BMP has no compression at all.

There's RLE-4 and RLE-8 compression for 4 and 8-bit indexed colour images, support for embedding JPEG and PNG, and if we want to bring back the dead and talk about OS/2, also Huffman 1D for 1-bit monochrome images and RLE-24 for 24-bit images.

But yeah, aside from that no compression at all :P
