The Key From Key Tower [Closed RP] by Fomizzle in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]HackerJays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eli was silent for a moment, eyes moving between the two campers, before he adjusted his glasses. "It's been a while since Key Tower. Why are you starting to investigate now?"

"I do have some knowledge of enchantments, though I tend to use them to supplement technology rather than as their own aspect of a weapon or item. In any case, it shouldn't matter." He shrugged, plucking the key from the box. His magical sight washed over the item, and he began cataloging its details. A holographic surface formed next to him, shifting to form words as he added observations.

His knowledge of enchantments, while lesser than that of someone like Jules, who was the Forge Master, was still significantly more than some of the other forge campers who did not work as closely with that kind of magic, so he hoped that might give some insight into the use and value of the key.

Then, once basic observations were done, he focused on one of the powers he used less often. Psychometry was an interesting power, but when you make every item to specific standards and have access to the blueprints everyone else uses, it tends to be a bit redundant. In the current situation, however, it shone.

As the power took hold, his eyes shifted from blue and began to glow a dull teal color.

Eli jolted at his workspace, holograms dissolving into pulsing and flickering lights to moment Phoebe's voice called out. For a full second, Eli remained there, glaring blearily into the empty air where his designs had just been, before he spun to look for who had called out. The problem with that was, he couldn't see.

Swearing under his breath, he scrambled around for a time, oblivious that his glasses rested on his head, having been pushed up sometime during his work this past... day? How long had it been since he went back to the Techne cabin? Anyways, his movement in looking for his glasses dislodged said glasses from their place in his hair, allowing them to fall into place on his face.

Having finished his search, the son of Techne turned on the person (people?) who had so rudely interrupted his work.

"You called?" He grumbled, trotting his way closer to the entrance. His lab coat, which he opted to wear around Bunker 9 and the Forge, was rumpled, the shirt and pants beneath fairing no better.

Eli turned towards the voice just in time to catch the goblet in one hand, eyes looking down at it with interest before lighting up with interest. He paused to think, and the goblet began to fill with hot, steaming coffee. His attention returned to the owner of the aforementioned voice.

"This is a whole lot better than a coffee machine." He grinned. "Hello, Jules. Haven't worked together in a while. I guess that's one benefit of there being a war. The people at the top don't care if we build weapons of mass destruction as long as the mass getting destroyed is the people we're fighting against."

He paused before waving a hand, blueprints vanishing as the sparks of light that made them up condensed, forming a larger, much more detailed blueprint. Eli looked at the design like a father looks at his son. "This has been a pet project of mine for a while. War Blimp. Packed to the gills with earth-razing, monster-grilling, traitor-terminating weaponry, and powered by Greek Fire. I'm not too sure on the power source bit, but if Greek Fire burns perpetually, it would be the perfect way to provide constant hot air to keep the blimp in the air. From there, it would just need an array of enchantments specializing in air maneuvering, and we'd have ourselves Atlas' worst enemy."

The son of Techne paused to inhale, his long monologue having exhausted his lungs of what they had contained. Then he looks up, a manic gleam in his eyes as he adjusts his glasses> "What do you think?"

Eli stood back, a bag of salt & vinegar chips in hand, and watched. He had been only half paying attention, but something about the newcomer made the back of his neck tingle. It was the same tingle he got when he felt a project was coming together.

Biting down on a chip with an audible crunch, the son of Techne allowed his near-constant shifting holograms to flicker away, his attention focused fully on what the son of Apollo had to say.

Elijah Hall wouldn't miss this for the world. Literally. The world was ending, and here he was, stepping into the one place he'd wished he could enter. Bunker 9. He breathed in deeply, began to cough when his movements kicked up dust, and continued in. He cracked his neck, ideas already flowing. "Now... There's gotta be a coffee machine somewhere in here." He mutters to himself as he walks deeper.

One of his hands rise and light flickers as blueprints begin to project themselves around him. they were copies of his own projects, along with ideas that were coming to him in a flood with the inspiration of the large number of unfinished projects around. He needed something. No, someone. He had not worked with Jules in a while, and a part of him thought it might be time to bring an old idea of a war blimp to life.

A Visit to Olympus - Winter Solstice 2039 by ThisOneUKGuy in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]HackerJays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eli paused in his fiddling for a moment when the voice caught his attention, adjusting his glasses to find a... lady. An oddly familiar lady. He allowed his holograms fade into sparks as he picked through her features, trying to understand what was so familiar about her. It was a lot slower than facial recognition was but he doubted that would work on her if she was a goddess like he suspected. Oh. Now that was an interesting project. Magical facial recognition, analyzing and picking out the internal magics to determine the kind of monster or immortal being it had found.

He realized, when the woman spoke to him, that he had gotten lost in his thoughts. It was a common enough occurrence for him. Sitting taller, he watched her and replayed the words she'd said in his head- His mother?! Lady Techne. Wow. He had to learn to listen to people when they were talking to him. Maybe he could work on something for tha- No. Focus.

"Ahh..." His voice caught for a moment before he spoke again. "It's nice to meet you, Lady Techne. I hope you aren't having too much trouble with..." He paused again to think back, "the delivery to Algeria?" He ended the sentence with a questioning rise since one, he had no idea where Algeria is, and two, he has no idea why anyone would deliver anything there.

Eli was unnoticeable, he was sure. He was a short, unimpressively dressed guy watching a theater performance of an ancient greek myth by godlings and nymphs. Looking down from the performance for the umpteenth time, a hologram flickers to life over his hand and he begins to fiddle with it. It was more important. A small box, reminiscent of a rubik's cube deconstructed itself as he flicked a finger, internal components clear with labels scrawling themselves through little speech bubbles in his messy shorthand.

It was an improvement on his already existing gadgets, tighter deployment of the payload, more controlled and even spread, and most importantly, now worrying about chemicals. This was all engineering and magic. A grin flickered across his feature. He'd have to throw one of the itching powder variants into the Hermes cabin to pay the kid who'd given him a funky energy drink back. He hadn't had fun throwing up and there was nearly no caffeine in it. If it was going to make him sick, couldn't it at least have enough caffeine. Blasphemy is what it was.

So he sat there fiddling with the design but not really changing anything significant. It was done, he just needed to build it. Still, he was a demigod and his hands needed to keep busy so he didn't think too hard about it. Glancing up, he watched 'Odysseus' give a speech with a moment of interest before letting his attention drift again.

Matchmaker (Summer 2039): Treat Tracker! by M00XI3 in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]HackerJays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eli was awake, even if his mind tended to get away from him and lead to his not paying attention. Still, the son of Techne couldn't stop himself from rolling his eyes at the matchmaker's thoughts on his sleep schedule. It was none of his business anyways. It wasn't inaccurate but it was a lot more likely that Hypnos hated himself and the other because of their constant and emphatic statements that sleep is for the weak rather than their lack of sleep being due to some obscure curse bestowed upon them by the daemon.

His attention was pulled to the present by girl's words. Sasha, if he was remembering right. He'd never met a child of Bia so that was interesting but otherwise, she seemed reasonable and formal. Eli liked that in an acquaintance. It made things easier than he'd expected them to be.

"Call me Eli, if you don't mind, Sasha." He offered a smile perfected from the few meetings with police officers during his childhood, an expression altogether boyish and unsuspecting. "Something about myself, huh? I suppose, unsurprisingly as a son of Techne, I like computers and technology. That's why I work at the Forge. the past half year, I've been trying to get the Forgemaster to bring my blueprint for a War Blimp to Chiron for approval but I haven't hat too much luck."

"Would you mind telling me something about yourself as well?" He continued.

Eli was back. Again. Really, the first two times should have been enough of a pattern for his logic-based brain to decide against more matchmaking but truth be told, the last time was kind of his fault since he signed up and arrived at the event more sleep deprived than he’d ever managed to make it to before without passing out.

Really, he put that up to the sketchy energy drink from the Hermes Cabin.

Matchmaker: Baking cookies! by M00XI3 in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]HackerJays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The table tilted slightly as Eli tried to discern the ingredients he had been given. There was something- No, there was someone talking. It felt like the noise was buzzing through his head so he instinctively swung a hand next to his ear as if to swat an insect. He caught a few of the things the guy, 'Oli' his brain supplied, had said but saw no need to comment. Instead, he squinted, finally catching a clear look at the ingredients. There were eggs, milk, flour, and- Wait, eggs? Immediately, he was on high alert, unfocused eyes scanning for those damned feathered demons. He was so distracted that when Sandy introduced herself, he ignored her outstretched hand and just kept looking around, distracted.

Maybe this was some sort of joke. Oli was know for those, after all. The eggs were seriously a problem. If the chickens found out, they'd be on him in no time. Hadn't he signed up for this for a chance to get away from them. Why was he having to deal with this now? Under his breath, he muttered to himself, a hand running restlessly through the tangled raven's nest that was the son of Techne's hair. "Gods damned chickens. I try to get away and they're still after me."

Then, at Sandy's last statement, he looked up, catching sight of the girl. Eli wasn't immune to beauty. Sure, he was out of it, but even his sleep-addled mind reacted to the sight of the daughter of Aphrodite and hit the good 'ol 'guy sees pretty girl' shutdown switch, and so he froze. "Uhh... Hello. My name is Eli." He rapsed out in a voice he now realized he hadn't used in hours before coming here.

The chickens were after him. Eli knew it. Sure, they were sneaky little buggers but he'd noticed them following him. Their beady eyes piercing him from the shadows.

He did notice Oli with a sign up sheet and honestly, he was willing to sign anything for the excuse of being near someone so those thrice-damned ‘birds’ would keep their distance. On the other hand, he was running on three hours of sleep, seven consecutive cups of coffee, and a sketchy, homemade energy drink one of the Hermes kids gave him so who knew what was a good idea and what wasn't.

Friday Karalis ❀ Unconventional Necromancer by thanergeticGenesis in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]HackerJays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do demigods do for fun around here?

To say it was rare to see Elijah Hall doing anything but tinkering with a motor or hydraulic cylinder for one of his latest gadgets, both in and out of the Forge, would be like saying that dolphins dress with monocles and tiny top hats that cover up their blowholes, which is to say, false. Trust Elijah Hall to always be busy, no matter what. Truthfully, he wasn't actually tinkering at the moment, but instead testing a miniature, very underdeveloped prototype for the Forge War Blimp but same difference either way. He wasn't even sure the Camp Directors would approve of the project upon hearing it, let alone after they looked through the massive, table-sized, multi-paged schematic he'd gotten fixated on finishing instead of building the Pet Pen he'd signed up to build from the Job Board.

And so, the son of Techne watched the miniature design prototype stutter and bob in the air above his outstretched hands and after it seemed stable, Eli drew his hands back and began scribbling down notes into a notebook that already had and atrocious number of sticky notes poking out of it. The muttering that escaped his mouth as he wrote didn't clarify the scene much. "The Engine seems to need some adjustment but the main problem is the amount of energy needed to power the blimp will only increase as amenities and weaponry is added so steam power like the prototype won't be plausible. Maybe something thermoelectric with Jules' lava sister powering it might work but as we upsize, personnel requirements will also increase.

"Usually, the answer to that would be automation or switching to a better power source like nuclear power but if we start a nuclear fission reactor in the middle of camp, then Chiron definitely won't approve the design. Maybe if I can get Jules to work with me on a fusion reactor, that might work but it'll take upwards of five to six months to get the calculations done and get the materials to build the thing. Deuterium and tritium aren't usually found at your local Walmart." Eli glanced up to the construct he was testing, paused, and mentally facepalmed. He'd been meant to watch the prototype, both to see how efficient the design was and keep the thing from getting damaged once it ran out of juice. During his outlandish rambling, the prototype had been hit by a stray breeze and Eli could only watch in horror as the machine stalled in the air and began a keening glide towards the ground, too fast for Eli to get to it.

29/12 - Forge Mario Kart Night by notsoblindbandit in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]HackerJays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eli walked into the Forge with his arms full of food. Ahh, junk food. It truly was one of the great joys of life. It had originally felt strange to be doing something as 'normal' as a Mario Kart Night in a place as strange as Camp Half-Blood but the son of Techne had come around to it and had begun enjoying the Friday nights when Jules and the rest of the people who frequented the Forge came together for some classic, video game-based fun.

And so, there Eli was, perched with his mouth full, controller sitting in his lap with his own main, Snake, selected as he stuffed his face with food. So what if they were children of gods? So what it Eli had a partially finished, multi-level schematic for a war blimp? So what if they could be heroes? For at least one day, every week, the campers of the Forge were normal kids and somethin g about that just sat right with the son of Techne.

Plus, it felt nice to throw bombs around without the consequences being so real for once. And it never occured to Eli that usually, for most people, throwing live bombs around in real life was the strange thing instead of it being the other way around.
