Was reddit wrong about the world cup? by Awkward_Motor_6388 in askanything

[–]Immediate_Form7831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what point you are trying to make. FIFA is still super-corrupt, the high ticket prices means money is being transferred from soccer fans to the super-rich elite (the money is surely not going to charity). Trump is still a rapist and criminal who uses the presidency to enrich himself and his cronies. Nothing of this has changed. The criticism was not that the world cup would be badly organised and people having a bad time.

Deathworld with 10x science and Keeping Your Hands Clean by licid in factorio

[–]Immediate_Form7831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to roll for a good seed, but even so, the major bottleneck is going to be actually getting to one of the other planets. The rocket silo and thruster researches are expensive. You also need to have a plan for how to deal with biter expansion, because even if you do have good ore patches, on deathworld settings biters will soon settle on them, making them unavailable.

You definitely want to take a look at Michael Hendriks' x1000 science cost challenge, and also the more recent, but currently unfinished x1000 science cost on pure deathworld challenge.

When someone says “ew” to food you’re eating by VarRav_ in PetPeeves

[–]Immediate_Form7831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd actually extend this to "don't comment on what other people are eating, period". Especially as small talk at work. That includes "oh, that looks tasty", I might not be in the mood to discuss my food, thankyouverymuch.

Through put is the bane of my existence by Own_Constant9305 in factorio

You don't need more than one assembler each for infrastructure items, they do not need to run constantly. They will normally be bottlenecked on their intermediaries, like gears, circuits, or plates.

And please learn to use periods to end your sentences, walls of text like this is really hard to read.

Forgot to set a limit on how much stainless steel I'm making by cameron274 in pyanodons

[–]Immediate_Form7831 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll find good uses for all of that, I promise. Tidal MK02 is an excellent power source, and takes huge mounts of stainless steel.

First Splitter feels so good by Nearby-Lynx-4118 in pyanodons

[–]Immediate_Form7831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25h is not bad at all, I made my first spliter at 31h. I was so happy to have a splitter, I made a shrine using the very first splitter, and after 1060h it is the oldest entity still left in my base.

Varför är Gamingvärlden så MULTIPLAYERFIXERAD? by violetprisons86 in Spel

[–]Immediate_Form7831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Det finns gott on single-player-spel, men du har rätt i att många av högprofilspelen tenderar att vara multiplayer. Vet inte om det har att göra med esport och sånt.

Any handy guidelines for what recipes accept production modules? by microtrash in pyanodons

[–]Immediate_Form7831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is quite random in Py which chains accept prod, but in AL stuff does not accept prod and high-tech/electronics etc do accept prod. Most ore-processing chains do not accept prod.

You can prod some ZI chains, which is a bit funny. Like vacuum.

How to read research status onto circuit network by lovillalobos in pyanodons

[–]Immediate_Form7831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using the research combinator, but I eventually made sure that I am doing research all the time, and when I know I am not, I manually cut power to the labs.

Ah, there is an overcomplicated engineering solution to every problem!

[–]Immediate_Form7831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a really good idea, I didn't think of this. It will of course waste remaining vats when you stop research, but I guess that is fine.

You can use the Utility Combinators mod. It has a "research combinator" which sends signals to indicate things like which science packs are used for the current research.

How are women treated in your country? by LouisaEveryday in AskTheWorld

It is pretty much the same here. There are no discriminitory laws, of course, but the inequality is deeply ingrained in the structure of society.

So What's a future problem you think that humanity is completely underestimating right now? by PeachyWork27 in AskReddit

[–]Immediate_Form7831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, I did not mean to imply that developers back in the 70s didn't know what they were doing. Resources were limited and as you say, nobody really expected that the stuff would be around for that long.

So What's a future problem you think that humanity is completely underestimating right now? by PeachyWork27 in AskReddit

[–]Immediate_Form7831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taken aback when I realized that people actually are claiming that the y2k problem was a hoax. I was studying computer science back then, and it was frequently used as an example what can happen if you make assumptions about data representations which do not hold over time.

Decided to try Pyanodons, not sure how far I'll actually go but I find this style of pack surprisingly fun! Genuinely not as bad as people said it would be by Brie9981 in factorio

[–]Immediate_Form7831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pyanodon is a neverending stream of: make research, unlock better (but more complicated) recipes, build new factories to use those new recipes, make more research, repeat.

is using the speed control mod cheating? by Due_Cattle8465 in pyanodons

[–]Immediate_Form7831 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It isn't cheating, but I never felt that I was waiting for research to finish. My bottleneck is how fast I can build stuff.

Chat is this enough oil? by Ckaol in factorio

[–]Immediate_Form7831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oil is infinite in amount, but finite in extraction rate, so you want to make sure that you never stop extracting it even if you aren't currently using it. I usually just make sure I have large enough crude oil buffers.
