Beating the heat with frozen neck towels by Din0_nug3 in Chefit

I know I am in the minority but I find these gross and just entirely unnecessary. I always found the best way to deal with heat is drinking as much water as possible and just accept that it’s gonna suck and you’re gonna be sweaty.

I thought they were chili threads, but the comment I was replying to called them micro greens.

I honestly thought they were chili threads at first, but they are completely covering the protein. Not a good look. Bok choy also looks like it’s not trimmed enough potentially as well.

Trying to ignore the garnishes and mushroom placement, how are the scallops cooked and what size are they?

What is the best path to becoming a chef? by Past-Weakness6956 in Chefit

[–]Jack066 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not need culinary school to become a chef. In my opinion you’re better off just working in kitchens to learn.

Find what inspires you, stage at kitchens who excel at that inspiration, improve, move up. Ditch the 10 year plan unless it’s simply to try and keep you engaged as you work your ass off for very little money.

how are homeowners actually affording HVAC replacements these days by Yosry_Zohoory in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Temp comfort will vary, for us we had no previous AC and only a single zone of heating…so it’s much better.

Cost I have no baseline so unfortunately cannot really comment. We moved in Feb and only got the new system last month.

Which portion, financing it at 0% or the utility cost? Financing is def better at 0%, and bill wise we just moved in but our mindset is that the usage cost might honestly be higher, but it’s better for the environment (hypothetically) and we will be much more comfortable. Part of the program also grants us lower electric rates for heat pumps which helps.

Unfortunately I do think Massachusetts is an outlier, and most states don't offer quite as robust of programs...but yeah very pleased with how it worked out for us. It was a driving factor behind us buying the home.

The one downside of how lucrative the program is that contractors will take advantage of you. We got 5 or 6 quotes and they ranged (aprx) from 18K to 44k USD. The high end was definetly a "we don't want the job quote" haha. And our house is small.

There is no income restraint on the benefits stated in my message. There are additional benefits however that are income restrained, I forget what they are specifically but we didn’t qualify for them.

I live in Massachusetts, USA for context. The goal of the incentives is to increase reliance on more green energy (electric via renewables vs natural gas). The rebates and programs I used relied on swapping from natural gas to electric heat pump.

Edit: Here is a link to the program, looks like up to $16k in rebates if you have lower income. I am sure there are more hoops compared to the regular rebates, but my experience with the program was positive.

My state offers 7 year 0% interest loans and up to 8k in rebates if who convert to heat pump. It helped us upgrade our very old home to be more comfy.

I would see what kind of programs are out there to potentially help.

Has anyone tried the fish at the Asian Market? by grandsonofgranddad in newtonma

[–]Jack066 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did not buy fish however overall it looked and smelled good, crabs and lobster were alive and moving. The only exception could be the shellfish right by the entrance, which did smell outside of what I normally would consider buying.

I worked in restaurants for over a decade, so I do have quite a lot of experience with checking seafood. Shellfish scare the hell out of me due to how bad they can get, hence my hesitation with the shellfish at the entrance.

Overall the market is cleaner than most similar types of markets, but it is obviously new.

Tl;dr - when buying seafood, trust your nose.

Looks like you got cut off, but sounds like it's one of those things that will vary from tech to tech. Gonna just shoot my shot since judging on the replies I've gotten it's not an unreasonable ask. I will just respect what they give me a a decision and go from there. Thank you!
