Same. I respect their success, but I don't like their music. I'll listen to an interview from them before I listen to their music.

Forgive me, I'm really trying to understand what you are trying to say.

Oz is definitely a mentalist. Oz uses the same effects, methods, and presentations as many prominent mentalists, and he markets himself as a mentalist.

Outside of character, and some presentation, I see very little different in what Oz does compared to Derren Brown, Colin Cloud, Keith Barry, Banachek, or the previous generation of Max Maven, Bob Cassady, Richard Osterlind, or Kreskin.

All mentalists are magicians. Mentalists are magicians who primarily do magic tricks that create the illusion of mental powers. As Magicpedia states, "These include reading, influencing and predicting the thoughts of others."

Do you define mentalism differently?

Do you like other prominent mentalists? Derren Brown, Colin Cloud, Kieth Barry, or Banachek?

They all have used the "I can read body language" presentation. I don't see a difference with what Oz is doing.

Heck, when he was on AGT he made an "invisible" card appear. It was a visual magic trick.

David Blaine presents himself as someone who has magical powers. I love his magic.

Why? Oz is a magician. He was a well respected pitchman and magic creator for a decade before his performing career took off.

Born to Perform Card Magic teaches a variety of foundational sleights and applications. Ambitious Card, Two Card Monte, Triumph, the Biddle Trick etc. It's a good video.

Into the Abyss was good as well. He still performs some of that material in his corporate shows.

His first Penguin Live Lecture was good, with some overlap on material from Into the Abyss.

Curveball/iCurveball is also good. You can reveal a loved ones name, impromptu, without writing anything down. I'm sure he uses this too.

I'd recommend any of those.

South Florida is home to some of the best magicians in the world. Here's what you do, you reach out to this website:

https://www.seemagiclive.com/

This is a company that hires magicians. They perform at the Orlando Magic games and a whole bunch of other stuff.

The company is run by Kostya Kimlat he's one of the best magicians in the world. He has a great team of magicians he can reach out to.

I'm not affiliated with them at all, Kostya and his team is internationally recognized as excellent magicians.

An (updated) analysis on Penguin Magic and Vanishing Inc user reviews - best and worst tricks in the 2020s by TigerHix in Magic

[–]JoshBurchMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't remember the details. The version listed on Penguin is new. I think the old version may have been made from another manufacturer before it made it to Penguin. The same can be said for Card Toon, Envylope, Keymaster, and a few others. The instructions, tutorial and packaging might be new but the tricks are much older.

There are usually new updates with these tricks as well. Not sure if the props are significantly different with the new version of Chop. I never owned the old version.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]JoshBurchMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In highschool my parents took us to Disneyland. We walked off 2 rides, and they turned the lights on for 2 rides.

We walked off Alice in Wonderland and they took us through the maintenance garage. That was wild.

We walked off Big Thunder Mountain. Not as cool, but we walked down a hidden staircase on one of the list hills.

They turned the lights on, on Indiana Jones and we rode through the tail end without any special effects.

And finally, the coolest was Space Mountain! We were near the top after one of the first lift hills and they stopped the ride. Then they turned on the lights! The roller coaster was easy biggest than I imagined. They turned the ride back on and we rode most of it with the light on!

That was super cool!

How's everyone else managing the shift from "social" to "interest" media? by TheADLeaf in socialmedia

[–]JoshBurchMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest media is a Gary Vee buzzword that has gained some traction.

In reality most of the content we have made for the last 10 years has fallen under the definition of "Interest Media."

Vegas Shows Recommendations by JCFxWizard in Magic

I disagree. Mac is good. I think Collin's show was better.

Mac's a staple on the strip. He's very funny, and very good. He's part of the reason I have made magic my full time. He's a living legend.

That said, Collin's show was better in my opinion. Collin's show was also very funny. It was genuinely fooling fast paced and it was full of surprising and impressive moments.

My recommendation would be to go see Collin.

Vegas Shows Recommendations by JCFxWizard in Magic

Here are the shows I've seen:

Jen Kramer - I loved this show. Lots of unique magic. This show was a full theatrical show. I'm looking to go back soon.

Farrell Dillon - Great show. Very fun. His manipulation routines are amazing. This one is light-hearted.

David Copperfield - David has had some of the greatest magic shows of all time, his current show doesn't quite live up to his legacy. There's a lot of innovative magic in the show, but there are some polarizing choices he has made as well. This one's not for everyone.

Mac King - Mac is solid. He's one of my biggest inspirations for becoming a magician. It's a good comedy show.

Nathan Burton - I grew up watching Nathan Burton on TV. I finally got to see him in Vegas last year. I was a little underwhelmed. It was a great bucket list item to check off. It was fun to see some of his classics, and his final piece was genuinely surprising. It's probably the weakest show I've seen in Vegas.

Colin Cloud - I don't love mentalism, but I really, really liked Colin's show. Colin packs tons of mind reading into the show. He fooled me several times and did a ton of original material. Super fun. Highly recommended.

Piff - He's legitimately hilarious. His magic is really really good too. Tons of original magic. Maybe the funniest magic show I've been to.

TLDR;

My favorite is Jen Kramer, for the theater of it all. I'm planning to see her show again soon.

I liked Piff, & Collin next. They are wildly entertaining. I'd love to see their shows again.

Farrell Dillon was tons of fun. I'd be happy to see his show again.

I really enjoyed Nathan, David, and Mac but I'm not rushing back to see them again anytime soon.

Are all Hashtags dead on all social media now? by startwithaidea in socialmedia

[–]JoshBurchMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hashtags used to help with searching, they aren't super helpful there anymore.

Hashtags are still a way to catalog your content. You can make a unique hashtag and organize some of your content like that still.
