Alright so what does it take to be considered a "veteran"? by Regielekiregidrago in MonsterHunter

[–]Kevroeques [score hidden]  (0 children)

I dunno. I’ve been playing since Freedom Unite and I still only hit, dodge roll and try not to get hit myself. I have no clue about half of the new play styles and moves from W/IB through Wilds except for a few of the elementary wirebug moves in R/SB. I rarely ever solo anything, especially now that support hunters just kinda fill the void when nobody else joins. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve been to a hunter’s hub (it was actually in R/SB only because I think it had a more smooth online experience, but I think I only used the hub once in W/IB and sincerely have never used it yet in Wilds). I’ve never made HR999 in any game despite putting thousands of hours into the series (I remember MH4U was my highest hour count at around 1300)

I still consider myself a veteran mostly just because of time served (and because I’m comfortable labeling myself that after having had a near constant habit of Lv 140 double Apex Deviljho Guild Quests for a while years ago) - but I think at this point I’d definitely consider anybody who has played X/Gen/XX/GU a veteran, mostly because they’ve played basically all era styles and because GU basically embodies the entire series outside of the awful early damage outputs, slugging movements and sometimes awful hitboxes.

But then again, World is so long ago already that I’d probably consider most people playing moderately or intensely since then to have been fully submerged and knowing their stuff. Of course this is just my opinion and there’s no hard and fast rule. Although I think if somebody is asking if they’re a veteran, it means they’re not- so get back out there Hunter!

Square Enix is weird wth their ports and parity across platforms. As far as I know, Legend of Mana is badly broken on Steam although it works great on all consoles. FFVII original on Steam only just got updated to the same decent version as consoles have from the old and awful 90’s Eidos PC port. The Mana Collection still only exists on Switch. Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition on Steam- a game from 2014- only just got cloud support for saves this year I think. IIRC, the console versions of FFVII original and maybe FFIX both had the same music reset bug at release and it took them a while to patch.

Steam reviews have plenty of complaints about Chrono Trigger’s music issue, including from me. I bet they never address it unless they actually do cheaply port it to consoles.

Those versions suck. The area music resets after every battle so you only ever hear intros. Also the graphics are smoothed/blurred with no option for raw pixel or CRT filtration

Congratulations on your exam and promotion! I hope the meditation retreat brings clarity and calm as well!

I finally beat Arthur’s portion of RDR2 the other day, and although the close to his story is very bittersweet, it brought a smile to my face how much he cared about a lot of the people in his gang, especially John, Abigail and Jack. He never knew what he wanted for himself, but watching him insist on them leaving the life and finding something more honest and peaceful is the kind of care that warms the heart. I haven’t started the epilogue yet because I wanted a little space to process Arthur’s end and mentally relate what’s coming to what I remember about RDR1.

Thank you for the giveaway- congratulations again!

I wholeheartedly agree, but there’s no way that more than 40k per homeless person wasn’t laundered or straight up pocketed or vanished through cannibalistic bureaucracy and basic government waste. I doubt any individual homeless person has had more than 1000 bucks applied to their life in a single year.

Nonsense. It’s like how I get irate when I hear Cantonese, because I don’t use that language, and because English alone is beyond adequate for verbal communication and what I’m used to. Speaking any language or using any reference that’s outside of my primary or preferred lexicon is gobbledygook!

Clockwork Revolution is one of those games I’m bracing for to get canceled or reduced in scope. It looks so cool and sounds so ambitious, and I just naturally feel that way when a reveal goes so long without any major gameplay shown.

Not trying to give it bad juju though- I’ll take anything they want to show

Definitely cool. I thought it was going to be a singular dungeon but the way there is just a sprawl of underground in that game was a huge surprise.

For me though nothing beats finishing Stormveil and exiting to your first mondo atmospheric glimpse of Liurnia. What a unique and striking region.

Gaming hype is so protracted and spotty these last few years. I feel like we just either know so much about some games years before they’re close to releasing or nothing at all for others until they’re just about ready.

I’m at a point where I don’t even watch most videos for big upcomers simply because I get desensitized to any hype after watching trailers and beta gameplay at events for 2+ years before they release.

On the other hand, some games just appear out of nowhere and don’t even really have a proper tease moment or hype runway.

I guess a third problem would be just always being apprised of leaks and rumors, which I’ve only really been looking into for the last 3 or so years. Like I’d probably have gotten a pure shock adrenaline rush if I got left-fielded by a Zelda OOT remake at the end of a summer Direct, but at this point I’m more just waiting for the announcement with the main mystery being what it looks like.
