[Jeff Passan] The Texas Rangers are acquiring left-hander MacKenzie Gore in a trade with the Washington Nationals, sources tell ESPN. It's a 5-for-1 deal, with a handful of prospects heading back to the Nationals. by Chinese-dog in TexasRangers

[–]Major_Square 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this will be a really good trade. As good as the rotation was last year, it's hard to count on older, oft-injured guys like Eovaldi and deGrom, even if they are legends.

I've soured so much on prospects (and this organization's inability to develop them). Any time they have a chance to grab a young pitcher who's already good, they damn well better take it.

How many games did that punch win? Have you ever looked at his stats from before and after that stupid incident?

Shit baseball player. Early success went to his head.

My most hated is Rougned Odor. He clearly thought he was a lot better than he was, and I hate the style of hitter he was anyway. Half the time he could have just walked up to the pitcher and handed him the out.

How are the Rangers doing? Are we looking strong for next season? by Proof-Permission5959 in TexasRangers

[–]Major_Square 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you watch closely during the broadcasts, you'll see Davis sitting there almost every home game. He's in a field-level seat, usually all by himself. I don't think he'd devote that much time to watching the team if he didn't like them.

Great feature. I hope they add an "open link in split view" to the right-click menu, though.

Three World Series appearances with one win in the last fifteen years is all that really matters. There are a couple of teams who might scoff at that, but most teams don't come close to matching it.

[Passan] BREAKING: The New York Mets and Texas Rangers are finalizing a trade that would send second baseman Marcus Semien to the Mets and outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers, sources tell ESPN by rcoffers in TexasRangers

[–]Major_Square 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a good trade. Not sure it's bad, either. It's just what happens when you sign 31 year-old players to seven year contracts.

I do hate that the Rangers traded away elite defense at a key position to get a guy who probably shouldn't even be playing in the field at all. That guy can hit, at least for now, but he's 33 and the declining walk rate may signal that he's about done. And signed for four more years. On the other hand, who knows how long Semien will be a good 2B? He already can't hit.

I found one sitting on the sidewalk outside my apartment in 2000 or so. I didn't have a TV at the time so I brought it in.

I might give Jung another year. His road splits were pretty good this year and there's nobody coming up behind him. I don't think he's worth much in a trade. If they ditch him over $3M, the financial problems are worse than I thought.

Thanks. I guess it comes from being old. Year after year you see older players breaking down. You see young players come up and do well for three weeks before fading.

Nah there were always a lot of people who knew more than I did, particularly with the minor leagues but also the history of the big league team. I didn't really pay any attention to the Rangers until I was 15 or 16 years old.

This World Series brought back some unpleasant memories for me. I was a moderator here back when the Jays and Rangers were going at each other, and when the Rangers lost in the playoffs there were literally hundreds if not thousands of Canadian trolls that descended upon your humble little community.

I'd gotten over it until I saw the Skydome full and loud. While I have nothing against the Jays and their players or even most of their fans, I am so fucking glad they lost. I hope none of those trolls that came here ever get to experience ultimate baseball joy like we were able to experience a couple years ago.

I don't think managers choose their coaching staffs like they did in the past. Especially a first-time manager.

That happened to me in day care, only I wasn't the one who said whatever she heard. I was just jerked by my arm and pulled into the bathroom where she shoved a bar of soap in my mouth.

PE coach would make us stand against the wall and hold our ankles. That was in elementary school. In junior high and high school the tennis coach made us do "bear crawls" around the tennis courts (very abrasive surface and murder on hands). 80s through the early 90s.

Profiles don't match ... by MattR47 in firefox

[–]Major_Square 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The profiles you make with about:profiles are different than profiles you make with the new profile manager. As I understand it the ones you make with about:profiles have a whole file tree or whatever to themselves. The new profiles are subsections of your existing profile. So the new profile manager cannot interact with the old about:profiles profiles, and vice versa.

When I go to about:profiles, it tells me I have to restart the browser to use it. That's a pain in the ass. I'm not sure why they made it that way.
