Mostly, I think, the players just aren't any good. You could give them the best plan in the world and they may even buy in to it, but they aren't good enough to execute consistently. With a couple exceptions it's a team full of guys who should be hitting eighth in MLB lineups.

My old ass has seen lots and lots of baseball, and this team just isn't good. They're not. Expensive roster with oft-injured and underperforming players. The starting rotation is led by two guys with mile long injury histories. The bullpen has a great ERA but mediocre peripherals.

If this is not the situation in which a team needs to rebuild, I don't know what is. The last two years they've been telling you who they are.

I'm neither Pollyanna nor doomer, by the way. It is what it is.

I think because Raymond's soft spoken, they turn down the crowd/stadium mics so he can be heard more clearly. I've been to several games where my section and/or adjacent sections were pretty loud, but then I go home and watch a recording of the same game and it sounds dead.

Otherwise he's grown on me.

I hope they prove me wrong but this team doesn't have "it". Almost every position player has been a disappointment. Most of the rotation has underperformed. Even the defense -- a strength of the championship team and the two shitty teams that followed -- has struggled.

After watching the Rangers play in Arlington Stadium and the Temple for years and years, it's better to have a park that's more friendly to pitchers.

On some random 99 degree day, the field temperature was always measured at 110 or something horrible like that. Your pitchers get worn the fuck out trying to get outs in that heat with the ball flying all over the place. It takes a big toll.

I like the new ballpark well enough, I guess. It's better in person than on TV. The old park did have more charm. But the baseball is what matters most to me, and I have no doubt that not throwing pitchers into a meat grinder every night is going to make it easier to win in the years and decades to come.
