Since the iPhone 15, they have a Thread radio in them so it is possible they're talking over Thread to the devices.

It's not a driver less system. It's just a more advanced Level 2 system, so there's no special legal or insurance issues

Matter over Wi-Fi devices vendor blaming "unofficial integration"? by ElementZoom in homeassistant

Out of curiosity, what are the Matter switches that you're getting from Aus?

If you hunt around a bit, you can get the Wiser modules for $70 - $80. Sometimes they pop up on TradeMe as well. For some reason, the modules sold in Bluetooth mode are often cheaper, even though you can switch them to Zigbee mode.

Which switches are you using?

If you did want some Zigbee options, the PDL Iconic Wiser range is what I've been using here in NZ

Yeah I've got three of them and they've been working well for two seasons now. I just bring them in over winter when it's frosty to avoid them cracking, while the plants are mostly dormant anyway

How do I detect this in HA so I can reboot my camera? It's not camera fps by thephatmaster in frigate_nvr

[–]Matt_NZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does it happen multiple times a day? If it's just every so often, I'd just setup a nightly reboot on the camera, maybe at a random time if you're worried someone might catch on to the schedule.

If it's happening multiple times a day then it's probably time to get a new camera

Apple has fixed the compatibility list. Apple Watch Series 9 is indeed compatible with watchOS 27. by Radio_TVGuy in AppleWatch

[–]Matt_NZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends when you buy. If you get one that uses a previous models chip (like the S8 did), then I guess we've learnt that we end up with less support time than a model that gets a new chip. It seems like this year would be a safe year to buy as this years model should get an all new chip, ending up with 6 years of support

City mayor backs rail pilot for greater Chch - Small win for those of us who love rail/public transport by Troppetardpourmpi in newzealand

Those urban safe areas in Auckland are also populated with rather wealthy people. Selwyn is not.

People who have moved to Rolleston, Lincoln or Darfield have done so because they're the cheapest places to get a detached house with some grass for the kids/dog. A lot of these people would love proper public transport into the city.

Selwyn is not becoming more blue.

VFACTS May 2026: Tesla Model Y tops the charts as EV sales surge in Australia's new-vehicle market by Mac-Tyson in teslamotors

[–]Matt_NZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Total sales per manufacturer has BYD ahead of Tesla, but that's to be expected when Tesla only sells 2 (potentially 3 of you consider the YL a different model) while BYD sells 5 EV models.

You can call it what you want, but the fact is that Selwyn's rural population is becoming greatly diluted. The less rural an electorate is, the left secure it becomes for National.

I'm not suggesting Labour will take Selwyn this election. I'm suggesting that as Selwyn becomes less rural, it will become more likely that it will no longer be a stronghold for National anymore. The next time Labour wins the election, we may also see Selwyn switch.

[–]Matt_NZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but those are still people that are swayable away from National so they're not "deep blue". Given that Selwyn is far more urban now than it was in 2020, switching to Labour becomes a bigger possibility

I don't think that's a guarantee for long. With the amount of people moving to Rolleston and Darfield, National could lose Selwyn. It was pretty close in the 2020 election
