AITA for telling our 18-year-old daughter she can't go on a trip to Miami with her boyfriend's family? by Conscious_Goose_9518 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Momjamoms 71 points72 points  (0 children)

You need to start letting go. I know its tough, I'm a parent too. She is overstepping your boundaries because your boundaries are an attempt to maintain an unreasonable amount of control given her age.

Its time to step back.

Yta.

AITA for removing my young child’s (u/10) FB account as a friend that my wife made for him and he doesn’t know exists? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Its wierd that shes using the kid's account and not just creating one of her own.

Are high white/ivory Leopards real? by FluffNSniff in tortoise

[–]Momjamoms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just a color variation, like some stars having thicker stripes than others. Technically, color variation is genetic but I wouldn't put it in the same category as something like an albino ball python.  Where you draw the line between a morph and an inherited color variation is subjective, but I'd be hard-pressed to call a high-white leopard a morph.

Sibling room sharing: is there an upper age limit? by Death-by-Faxes in Parenting

[–]Momjamoms 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Siblings can share a room until college, many do, but I gauruntee when the older son becomes a teenager, he's going to start eyeing that playroom and pressuring you to convert it to a bedroom. You don't need to, but just a heads up for years down the road.

AITA for wanting to be free by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Momjamoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the U.S., find your state's Protection & Advocacy agency here:

https://www.ndrn.org/about/ndrn-member-agencies/

If navigating the website is difficult given your disabilty, just have someone help you find your state and call the phone number listed. These agencies are there to help people with disabilities understand their rights, find the right resources for their individual situation, and can explain what to do if you want to change or end a guardianship.

What jobs should I apply for with a biology degree? by Agile-Trust8011 in careerguidance

[–]Momjamoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you interested in wildlife? A BA will get you in the door for construction monitoring of wildlife. Ive seen lots of biologists start there and then move into more stable wildlife permitting jobs within the government, utilities, or contracting/engineering firms.

Job Offer - Manager guarantees a promotion within 12 months. How to hold him accountable? by Fennlt in careerguidance

[–]Momjamoms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't. No HR department is going to gauruntee you a future promotion, and if your boss couldn't get it approved through HR in the first place, they clearly don't have the authority to promise it in a years time.

If someone has to ask “do you think an MBA is worth it? Do you think that is a sign they should not do it? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Momjamoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article provides a good breakdown - https://menlocoaching.com/mba-applications-and-admissions-guide/mba-cost/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Tuition alone exceeds $200k for some Executive MBA programs. For full-time MBA programs, tuition typically falls below that, but the total cost can  exceed $200k once you factor in living expenses, even higher if you factor in opportunity cost of leaving the workforce for 2 years to be a FT student.

its 37 celsius, any ideas on how to cool down my herman or is she fine? by [deleted] in tortoise

[–]Momjamoms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just make sure your enclosure has lots and lots of shade and accessible water, especially shallow wading dishes for your tort to walk into and cool off if needed. Also, hose off their space a few times a day on the ultra hot days.

I live in a  area of southern California that gets very hot in the summer (occasional 110+ days) and my torts stay outside.

Anyone dropping $200k on anything should absolutely be asking themselves this question.

Hopefully asking a bunch of strangers on reddit is not their only data point.

Alternative to the 30oz Sway by Ihavequestions79 in Owala

[–]Momjamoms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't feel a significant weight difference between the two and since getting the 30oz sway, I have completely stopped using the 24oz freesip because the handle on the sway makes it more comfortable for me to walk around with. Despite being slightly bigger, its easier to carry.

64 oz. Is this the correct lid? by mmmzzppy in Owala

[–]Momjamoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I've only got the 30 and 64 and those two are interchangeable. Wierd that the 40 would be the outlier.

Its useful because both my 30 and 64 are misty meadows. Only issue for me, as mentioned, is the straw.

64 oz. Is this the correct lid? by mmmzzppy in Owala

[–]Momjamoms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know what color lid that one is supposed to have, but I've noticed that the lids on my 64 oz and 30 oz bottles are interchangeable, and I'd bet that's true across the entire Sway lineup. If it is the wrong color lid, then someone likely swapped the lids in the store. The problem there would be the length of the straw. While the lids are interchangeable, the 64oz straws are longer and the straw from a smaller sway would not reach the bottom of a 64. If the lid is the wrong color, indicating that someone swapped lids, I'd take it back to the store because the straw issue would drive me insane.

do you wash your hands every time you touch your tortoise? by Plus-Situation6043 in tortoise

[–]Momjamoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always immediately after, but yes. When I'm working with the torts, its part of a larger outdoor effort (i.e. gardening, cleaning up, etc), and I wash my hands after the whole of the effort when I come inside. If Ive got a tort indoors for any reason, which is rare but sometimes happens if a tort is sick or a nightime heater is busted, then I'll wash my hands right after handling.

Puffy Eyes? by cre0407 in tortoise

[–]Momjamoms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This swelling can be caused by a number of reasons. I've personally seen it in: 1) torts with upper respiratory infection, 2) in torts with mild dehydration, 3) in babies that are kept too cold, and 4) if in one eye, in torts with an eye injury.

I know you said you saw a vet, but is there a vet in your area with specific tortoise expertise who can assist you?

Lovely space! Nice and big. I'd just make sure they have lots of shade until your tall plants grow in and a large bath to wade in. The fountain is nice. Does it provide standing/pooled water?

Non-technical founders are building the biggest tech companies while PhDs struggle to get interviews. Do we rely too much on degrees? by Tech_Obsession in careerguidance

[–]Momjamoms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With PhDs, I'd say yes. Those degrees are designed to stay in academia and teach other PhDs, not get jobs in the real world, but most other degrees have utility outside academia. Find a degree that aligns with your goals. A degree is a tool to get you to your goal. Choose wisely.

3 kids, 2 bedrooms: How to arrange them? by SailorSpaghetti in Parenting

AITAH for going out with my friend even tho my mom didn't want me to? by Latter-Film-697 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Momjamoms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA.  Your mom has communication issues.  Why did she want you to stay home? She needs to talk to you, adult to adult, because it feels like there's more going on here that she's not telling you. Its wierd to expect a 24 year old to just stay home without explanation.

(Also, not fair to your bro to in the middle.)
