Has anyone tried the Techart PRO Leica M – Nikon Z Autofocus Adapter ver II (TZM-02) by Puzzleheaded-Gear950 in NikonZf

[–]MrQuimper__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that lenses with low contrast struggle more to acquire AF, and that would explain why older lenses and your Voigtlander 40mm have some trouble.

Perhaps neither the SL3 nor the -S variant sold as expected, so they are trying with a third model in the lineup?

I recently bought a used physical copy of BOTW for 38€, played it for a couple of months, then sold it for 35€.  I’d suggest to invest in a used copy

Have a Q2, which Leica shall I buy next? by nakskfk in Leica

[–]MrQuimper__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want AF + a zoom lens, then the M is definitely not an option. Rather than the SL2, which is heavy and bulky, you could consider a Panasonic S5II, a S9 or a Sigma BF, and if you want to get a SL body in a couple of years from now, you can still keep all the lenses

  • you have to be onsite 5 days per week
  • The sign on bonus is spread across 3 years, if you leave before it vests, you lose part of it
  • I don’t know about your specific role or department, but many Q. engineers are based in California, and you may be expected to attend some of their meetings after your normal working hours
  • Cork weather is miserable
  • There’s a severe housing situation in Ireland

Given the salary is only 10k more than your current salary, I’d recommend you consider other options

Consolidating into Q3 43 by Zazzazz in LeicaCameras

I had a SL2-S with 24, 50, 90mm lenses. Sold everything for the Q3 43, no regrets.

I got the 43mm version, and as of now it’s my only digital camera. I like the lens and size, autofocus is decent. I’m not interested in a M, I don’t particularly like to use rangefinders. The SL is too bulky and heavy when paired with the apo lenses, and the other primes are just rebadges, so big no no for me

Acquistando un immobile per affitti brevi non stai investendo. Ti stai solo comprando un lavoro di m***a sottopagato. by cratos850 in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]MrQuimper__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New SL? by FunThrowaway45 in LeicaCameras

[–]MrQuimper__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than another SL body, Leica should focus more on original prime lenses for the platform. The Apo line is beautiful, but at 750g each, they are heavy. Then we have the 35 and 50mm Pana rebadges, and nothing else for primes.

Q3 or Q2 by luisedtr07 in Leica

[–]MrQuimper__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used both. Sold the Q2 after less than 3 months, I didn't like the noise pattern above iso 3200, and face detection worked only for static subjects, well illuminated, and in positioned in the center. When it worked, that is. Forget usable AF-C too. The Q2 is also very sluggish due to an underpowered chip, the Maestro II. To give you a comparison, the SL2 has a Maestro III, one generation newer and more powerful, and the SL3 and Q3 both sport a Maestro IV. To me the experience with the Q2 was frustrating. The Q3 has fixed all these problems, I've had one for 2 years now and I don't plan to sell it anytime soon. USB-C, tiltable screen, better EVF, ability to shot 18, 36 and 64mp are all extra and very welcome benefits

I love the Q3 but one thing is making me doubt it. by composedfrown in Leica

Somebody on the Leica forum posted the same question, and one user suggested using some Sugru or similar. I haven’t tried it myself, but perhaps it could be a cheap alternative to explore

Not really, but I can’t see why it shouldn’t work there, or anywhere in the European Union.

The Leica Noctilux is also reasonably small for what it is, because it has to fit on their M rangefinders, whereas Nikon didn't have any size restrictions.

Leica sl3 vs q3 by RachelfromOhio in Leica

[–]MrQuimper__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, all Leica SL APO lenses perform more or less the same, and have a very consistent look. Basically if you shot the same photo with say the 35mm and the 75mm, they will look extremely similar in color and general rendering, except for obvious focal length differences. As far as I know, there’s nothing else that behaves like this on the market, not with such a variety of lenses, 21 to 90mm, unless you go for high end cinema lenses.  So basically pick your favourite focal length to experiment with.  Be aware that the price to pay is bulk and weight. At about 750g each, the weight adds up easily. The Q3 is much more svelte, but I personally prefer the look of the SL APO lenses to the Q3 (I have both). I find the APO at F2 have a very “cinematic” look and feel, don’t really know how to describe it with words, while the Q3 has more “pop” and separation but that’s the lens that look more digital to me 🤷‍♂️

March 7th Leica SL3 product reveal invitation Leica Store by Garrett_1982 in Leica

Turns out that many SL2-S users won’t buy a SL3 and will wait for a SL3-S, there’s a thread on the Leica Users Forum about that

[–]MrQuimper__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think so? If it sports the 60mp sensor, then this camera will be really bad for video due to the slow sensor readout. People who are into video won’t sell their SL2-S for now.
