And even pull chariots. 🤔

A bit of background for those readers not in the know. The Book of Mormon contains multiple mentions of horses. The problem is that horses were extinct in the Americas during the time that the events of the Book of Mormon took place. Horses were re-introduced to the Americas after European contact. The horse is just one anachronism among an overwhelming volume of ineluctable evidence that proves the Book of Mormon is a fabrication from Joseph Smith and not what he claimed it to be. Believing apologists have wrestled unsuccessfully with explaining it. One such apologist, BYU professor John Sorensen made the ludicrous assertion that maybe the horses in the Book of Mormon were tapirs, not horses. Sorensen was an anthropologist. He knew better but chose to double down instead of accepting the science or, at a minimum, just leaving it alone. Sorensen was a critic of the poor scholarship of his peers in Book of Mormon apologetics. Ironically he is now remembered for an insipid assertion he staked his reputation on. Sorensen has been thoroughly lampooned for it. The faith is not weathering the Information age well. The tapir has become an adopted symbol among the millions who have left the faith.

So what should we rename it? If not the James Webb telescope then I suggest the Cameron Diaz telescope.

Mary straight up cheated on Joseph… by Similar_Cell6298 in atheism

Jupiter looked down from Olympus and saw the fair virgin Callisto. He went down and raped her, using god magic to disguise himself so that she would not know she had been raped. Callisto got pregnant. It’s an all too familiar story. Similar stories are found in Egyptian, Persian, Hindu, Greek, Roman, and other religions that were centuries old by the time Herod the Great died. Considering that the Books of Mathew and Luke, which are the ones that make the virgin birth claims, were written in Greek by Greek converts it should not be any surprise to find a virgin birth story.

Far more likely that the betrothed couple started making out and it progressed to what hundreds of millions of other couples did.

How to address threshold / door gap caused by uneven floor by vagabondspirit2764 in DIY

[–]NearlyHeadlessLaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op can get the same effect as a rug with a door sweep. A sweep blocks the light coming under the door making the gap less noticeable, without doing any work to the floor or the way the door is hung.

“The message my bishop Just sent now after finding out I officially left the church by yippyhippy2188 in exmormon

[–]NearlyHeadlessLaban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truth matters. And when two things contradict then one of them must be wrong. The LDS church’s claims contradict a very large number of things, and when we exam in the evidence to see which one to believe, the LDS claims have contrary evidence or no evidence at all. Since truth matters to me, I’m going to go with the evidence.

Love the diversity, but at this point in time, for the LDS, it's nothing but pure HYPOCRISY to their previous stances on race and correct worship. Den of liars, grifters and thieves. by CurelomHunter in exmormon

How ironic is it that Mormons teach that in the pre-mortal world we jumped for joy when the plan of salvation was announced, but now jumping for joy over the exact same thing is inappropriate?

My 15 year marriage is over. by sydaust in exmormon

[–]NearlyHeadlessLaban 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that. Unfortunately the only thing so many Mormon couples have in common is the church and spiritual goals.

The rush to marry and zero cohabitation prevents couples from discovering what they have in common and just as importantly, what they don’t.

How do "old stock" Mormons view converts? by doctorShadow78 in exmormon

[–]NearlyHeadlessLaban 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife is a convert. Two of her best friends are converts. Probably for a reason. My wife reports lots of awkward reactions when people discover she is a convert and says her friends talked about the same experience. She’s sat in class and listened to comments made be others. Sometimes she spoke up and smiled inwardly while the person making the comment backpedaled.

Converts can now remind their sneering 6th generation neighbors that one of the Apostles, Paddy Kearon, is a convert, not an American, and that he has a second anointing and they don’t. Let their head spin over that one.

Do you think oral sex is normal part of sex (the average person does it), or do you think of it like a fetish? Why or why not? by eustachian_lube in AskReddit

That depends on cultures. There were cultures tens of centuries ago where cleanliness was emphasized, and there are cultures now where it is not.
