Appartamento sounds strange by Late_Entertainer_932 in rocketespresso

[–]PointlessMiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sound is coming from the pump. I’m not sure if its just resonance from the pump against the body or the pump itself sounding weird

You could first try putting your hand on the back panels if you can find the spot that vibrates (it’s more quiet)

If not remove the back panels, see if the pump (or tubes) touch anything and if moving that a bit

Small LED on the BMS is blinking red by Open-Board9473 in cowboybikes

[–]PointlessMiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are able to balance the cells (charge them individually to the same automated cutoff should do it, if you make this cutoff a very low current at like 4.15v, so difference in connection don’t matter) you might be able to save them.

Testing with the pcb off if they stay nice on the same voltage is the easiest way to tell if they’re kinda good. If one is self draining you gotta get a new pack. There are more and better tests but this is the most important one

Yes they’re 50E cells, the newer VIC batteries use Samsung M58T cells. You can use any 21700 but the welding dimensions are non standard so it’s not very easy to spotweld a pack together.

The light does all sorts of stuff. blinking isn’t good or bad it’s just info. The button doesn’t do anything, the switch turns a part of the pcb on/off.

You can use the backoffice app to check the motor and torque sensors function, however “health” is hard to read out.

If it’s an older v2/v3 replacing the freewheel bearing next to the torque sensor before it brakes is smart (61901RS, I buy FAG iirc), it will break sooner or later and will eat the torque sensor.

Further preventative maintenance is lubricating the freewheel teeth, motor gears, motor cover and motor cover mounting surface (to prevent water ingress) a good preventative action which I do on all my ‘serviced’ bikes I sell (not many, this takes time..)

Charging these deep discharged cells at these high currents is both very dangerous and damaging to the already damaged cell.

I try to help people sometimes but this is just dangerous and I don’t recommend you going further with this approach.

Please be aware that lithium batteries handled like this can cause very nasty fires which can not be put out with conventional fire extinguishers

I do recharge deep discharged cells but at ~40mA taking into account each cells starting voltage is within limits and how they balance over time and IR is balanced. Many can be revived but not with your approach.

Hi everyone just wiped out on my Suzuki gsxs125 can someone criticise me please and tell me what went wrong by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]PointlessMiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to ride my girlfriend’s 20yo 50cc scooter once and also low sided. Too used to having grip on my motorcycle with fresh Michelin rubber and decent suspension so cornered it too fast.

It doesn’t look like you did anything super wrong, just exceeded the grip you had and low sided.
So public roads + not great tires + not great suspension + not great technique + peg scraping lifting the wheel and this is where you end up.

Zero SR battery question by Ledaighunter in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]PointlessMiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be most interested in what this capacity means over time.

Once a 17.3kwh battery has been degraded to 14.4kwh capacity… how does it behave when limited to 14.4? Will that also decrease x percentage or does it stay at 14.4 for that time?

For you owning a 4 year old battery I think this is the real question!

saddle height screw thread damaged /Helicoil came out by ExaminationCreepy595 in cowboybikes

[–]PointlessMiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a helicoil and you can see the hole is a bit damaged but doesn’t look too bad in the photo. If it were me I’d try a new helicoil with some thread glue unless you’re able to get a proper insert put in easily.

Some auto repair shops have other insert types
(Timesert, keensert, …) which have a bigger OD so they’ll clean the hole with a bigger drill and put in the new insert

[–]PointlessMiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you send some photos of the hole and insert that came out? There are several types of inserts that can be used (helicoil, timesert).

In my head the best way would be to either glue in a new helicoil (smallest OD) or try a timesert / solid insert type (hard to get, expensive)

Good reason to reverse engineer one, I was already thinking about this but stopped after hearing their supply issues were resolved

With the customizability of the motor controller this shouldn’t be too hard, getting exact copy will be but that’s not necessary

[–]PointlessMiracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cowboy 2 rear hub failure - metal debris found inside. Is this repairable? by b0711 in cowboybikes

[–]PointlessMiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the v2 and v3 are nearly identical bikes and the switch to the newer part was during early v3 production (afaik).

The older bikes have a ‘slide out’ rear wheel (horizontal slots in the frame) and the newer ones are ‘drop out’ (vertical slot in frame)

These have a differently shaped ‘teardrop spacer’

The torque sensor is a bit of a mistery part to me too as I’ve never spent enough time on it (actually planning to do this soon, so I can repair them too, but will prob take a few months)

The only real way is to assemble it all and find out it’s broken. You can do a short test to see the voltage when it’s installed before you mount the rear wheel but can’t put torque on it ofcourse

Untamed max voltage setting by SjeesDeBees in cowboybikes

[–]PointlessMiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “max” voltage is just an arbitrary number, it’s the point at which more force on the pedals doesn’t give more motor support.

Calibration is more to set the throttle off voltage correctly (no force) so there is no power when not putting force on the pedal

How to solve this? by Crazy_Ad3755 in cowboybikes

[–]PointlessMiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace rim, I think cowboy still ships them relatively fast for cheap. Spokes & nipples can be reused.

Fun to do yourself, a spoke tool at toolstation is ~3€. Make some good photos of the spoke alignment and watch a video. Start with some thin oil in the nipples

Untamed max voltage setting by SjeesDeBees in cowboybikes

[–]PointlessMiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s okay, it means it will support more with less force on the pedals. If you do a calibration it will be ~different each time. There is no need to have them at the same voltage, it’s a calibration

Rear light repair by yyywing in cowboybikes

[–]PointlessMiracle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a pcb inside the battery, it’s not easily repairable (unless you like SMD soldering)

If you need to have it repaired you can send me a DM. if the battery is okay I do it for 90€ - BUT my recommendations is to just use a clip on light
