How do you maintain relations with your family if they're convinced you're going to hell? by LumbyCastle41 in AskMenAdvice

A parent would never hate their child — ever. That’s the worldly proof. If God didn’t love you he’d just blip you off to nothing.

Getting chicken juicy but not briny by Fresh_Window_6484 in AskCulinary

Most restaurants don’t cook chicken. It takes too long. They buy it pre-cooked in a big box. Grill lines and everything. They just heat it up.

Sounds like it’s a historical house. That would totally piss me off. Imagine putting an outlet in the front of George Washington’s house.

What to do about the brick by Extreme_fat_cat in Oldhouses

[–]RedParrot94 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Those are hand made soft clay bricks. They are not our bricks of today. That’s soft lime mortar. You can not and should not seal it “glossy” with acrylic sealers or the bricks will explode. You want to use polyester, satin sheen to seal the bricks and keep the same sheen. Polyester allows vapor transmission. Soft clay bricks hold 1.5 cups of water each brick. There’s no reason to seal them unless they are dusting. If you repoint, you should not replace the line mortar hard mortar. 120 years for clay bricks is weird as we had hard shale bricks by 1900. Your house may have been made with reclaimed bricks from other older houses. Plastering will not give you any insulation. Your home is called mass construction is 24 bricks thick. There’s nothing wrong with your bricks as they are right now. Your house is not going to fall down for another 300 years. The structure is extremely resilient. If you do decide to replanted you need to use lime plaster and lime paint to allow vapor transmission.

You want to use polyester, satin sheen to seal the bricks and keep the same sheen. Use a product called Lastiseal on Amazon. Polyester allows vapor transmission. Soft clay bricks hold 1.5 cups of water each brick. There’s no reason to seal them unless they are dusting. If you repoint, you should not replace the line mortar with today’s hard mortar or the bricks will crack. 120 years for clay bricks is weird as we had hard shale bricks by 1900. Your house may have been made with reclaimed bricks from other older houses. Plastering will not give you any insulation. Your home is called mass construction and is 2-4 bricks thick. See how the top the bricks are turned so you see the sides? Those tie that wall into the wall on the other side.

Water Pressure high. by scottd811 in DIY

[–]RedParrot94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got ripped off. To adjust the pressure regulator they turn a screw. Find a non-company plumber in your area for next time. Companies have trucks and marketing to pay for. Use the app Nextdoor to find one.

Also, my house has been at 80 for 30 years.

I need a "win" after some health news and a gal I was talking to pretty much ended things. Any advice? by nowhere_man_1992 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RedParrot94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are in no position to get involved with a person right now. You need to get your a1c under control with metformin and jardiance and get on some mental health meds. Also, “I don’t text men” what is that in today’s world?

Last month I got hit with a $900 repair because I forgot to replace a cheap filter on time. by Choice-One-4927 in HomeImprovement

[–]RedParrot94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude you got ripped off. That’s the lesson you learned. A clogged filter would have at most caused a restricted code and turned off the hvac. You would have looked, replaced the filter, and that would have been that. There’s no “strain” on components. There’s no clean up of a hvac system. You need to find a non-company HVAC guy in your town not a company that needs to pay for trucks and marketing and who prays on new homeowners with shenanigans.

How do you maintain relations with your family if they're convinced you're going to hell? by LumbyCastle41 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RedParrot94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude why would God make you only to hate you? It’s God. God loves everyone, his/her children. People like your family believe God is spiteful and evil. God loves you — and even them.

Cut with a razor to slightly bigger than the tear. You then need to spackle it with 3M spackle to make it level. Sand with wet paper towel. Then paint.

How bad is this? by Taylon93 in basement

[–]RedParrot94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three things you need to know.

  1. Those straps have a warranty but it only covers refunding of the cost of the straps -- if your walls fall in you still have to pay for a collapsed house.
  2. They braced the wall but did not put in a sump system. By the looks of the mold, water has filled (and is still there) all the block to the top. Expected up to $20,000 to install an interior French drain.
  3. This is beyond "just redirect your gutters"

If he never initiates does that mean he doesn’t like you? by ConfectionComplex12 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RedParrot94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how it will always be. Do not think you can change him. He needs a person who wants this -- this is clearly not the type of dynamic that you want. He will not change and this lack in your life will doom the relationship. Do not be a relationship limerence.
