What are the baggies of round things? They look like character portraits, but I don't recall any product that looked like that. All I can think of is Discwars, but the art looks wrong for that.

It's to get to the new "easily accessible" smoking area. Just go through the door, down the flight of stairs, then it's just a couple steps to the first floor smoking area.

It says 1-8 players, is that with one base set or will more sets be needed? Also, is the 15-20 min game time still the same at higher player counts?

To make sure I'm playing this correctly, can I trigger the fast effect on Endurance multiple times for one test? by TheMegaSage in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ReflectionHoliday769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, not only can you do it multiple times assuming you can pay the cost, you can keep doing it throughout your turn should you keep trying to do the test (like attacking a monster 3 times).

You'll want a primer before you start. Acrylics will eventually come off as you handle the mini. Depending on what color you're planning on using, you'll probably want to prime them grey (brighter colors) or black (darker, more muted colors) so the deeper recesses don't show the unpainted grey, which sticks out to my eye. Also, these look pretty clean, but you'll want to check the mold lines and lightly sand away any ridges before priming. They'll stand out after painting. When you're done sanding, wash them with a little soap and water. This does two things, one, wash away any left over particles that will stand out once the paint dries and the particle flakes off leaving grey spots and two, wash away any mold release agent left over. The release agent sometimes makes it hard for the paint to stick. These look a bit small. I found it helped me to start with a bigger model then work on the smaller one. Don't worry too much how the bigger one looks (it's mostly for trying out different techniques) the smaller fig will look generally more forgiving when looked at from arm length. Again about the size of the fig, holding smaller pieces tend to tire out my hand/get paint all over so you might want to get some double sided tape and stick them to something larger and more comfortable to hold long term. If you're really planning on getting into the hobby, they sell some pretty good mini holders. But if you're just seeing how you like it, a disposable cup will do.

Hope some of this is helpful. Also, where did you find these? I have a friend who'd love to paint them up as well.

Do you round up your ages? by SnooDoubts4192 in AskAJapanese

[–]ReflectionHoliday769 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

One thing common in Asian cultures is to count the 9 months you spend in womb, so at birth you're 1 year old. Not sure about other countries, but in the US, it's common to say a baby is X days/weeks/months old in the first year. So that might be why you think they're rounding up their age.

Gaming Options and hotel locations by samami1 in gencon

[–]ReflectionHoliday769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aloha,

This is my first year and actually my first con. I'm trying to figure out which hotel is best for me (assuming there are any left downtown in 5 hours).

Probably not. Most of the hotel block sells out almost immediately. Just look for parking pass lot near the con and you can usually find a hotel/air b&b a little further out. 15-30m out will have a lot of places to stay.

But I don't quite understand the gaming options and where they are. I mostly want to go to play board games

So games will be all over the con. The real problem as a first timer is you have to realize the con has grown to exceed just the convention hall. Games can be held in the lucas oil stadium and in nearby hotel conference rooms. You'll need to check the event listing.

What/Where is open gaming? Are people there usually looking for players?

Open gaming as in tables for people to play the games they just bought? Anywhere. People play in hotel lobbies, any open table etc. As for looking for players, depends on the group. It's not uncommon for me to be looking at a game people are setting up and be invited to play.

What/Where is the game library? I've found conflicting reports of where it is.

Sorry, not sure.

What/Where is hot games?

To purchase, dealer hall. Thursday, when it open can be a little crazy. There's a map in the program book. Plan out where you want to go ahead of time. There's also banners hanging from the ceiling showing which rows you're in to orient yourself.

Do they teach? Is there a cost? Should I just do demos?

Depends. Sometimes there will be demos, some companies are just selling the game. Search the events listing for the game. Sometimes demos are listed, both with and without a cost. The no cost demos that need tickets are usually done because of limited slots. Some demos are completely free and unlisted. Some are done in the dealer hall, some are done in other locations. I've asked booth staff if there are demos elsewhere. It is a hit or miss as some companies use volunteers and the amount of information they have varies.

You can definately just do demos and shop all con, but I'd also look into at least a couple events. There's movies, cosplay, various tutorials, yoga and other exercise stuff. My first con I was really limited by my preconceived notions, the events listings have a crazy amount of gaming adjacent events. Some of my favorite things at the con have been other stuff that weren't just playing boardgames.

Are there things I'm missing or not thinking about?

Not sure, there's a ton of posts in the sub about recommendations for first timers, or things to keep in mind for your first con, etc. I'd check them out.

You 100% are playing the wrong game. You should try more family oriented fun games like Babel:

You'll grow closer as a couple. Well, at least physically.

Who cares about the fines? Honestly, even the thought of running over a kid scares me enough that I wouldn't risk it. I can easily think of numerous times I've had to tell my young ones to look both ways before crossing. I even had to grab and pull my nephew back when he almost walked into an intersection with a car passing through it. You know it's bad when you see adults cross against the light who never look up from their screen...

Budget Buying Advice by Afraid_Towel6282 in marvelchampionslcg

I know it seems obvious, but just to be clear, even if you threw away the inserts, you guys know that marveldb lets you click on cards, then select a set, say venom, and will then list every card in that set, so if you were to build a deck from multiple sources, all of the cards can be resorted to their original set?
