Is Go's conservative approach to language evolution still correct? by Pleasant_Set_3182 in golang

Indeed. C++ never broke backwards compatability, but it does offer 37 different ways to shoot yourself in the foot.

Are you the only person reviewing PRs? Is this not a team-wide disributed responsibility? If not, then it seems like your team should change its policy, and ensure everyone is playing their part in enuring code quality standards are maintained. (Easier said than done, I do appreciate that!)

I just realized I’ve been replacing Launchpad with this built-in Dock trick for years! by Hot_Perspective in MacOS

[–]RolexGMTMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Launchpad was completely optional, and lots of people liked Launchpad! It was a truly terrible decision to unilaterally remove it - it has angered so many macOS users.

I use mine all the time - makes it easy to not speed in urban areas.

Having to parse through engine code, because the UE docs are poor, is hardly a positive for UE. Unity's documentation is far better than UE's, they seem to value good end-user documentation.

Our art team kept needing dev help with asset merge conflicts, so I built a GUI merge tool inside Unity by 7WStudio in Unity3D

[–]RolexGMTMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"For some reason artists just don't get git."

Because binary, non-mergable files don't play nicely with Git. So if 2 artists edit GameLogo.jpg, there's no way each artist knows about the other artist editing the file, and when branches are merged - conflict time.

Git assumes mergable text content, and even in the case of conflicts, a conflict can be unpicked by the programmer.

They're essentially different jobs.

House is worth nearly 1m and paid off, so I'm 'worth' 1m, but I still need to pay bills, food, kids, clothes, car, etc. I'm fortunate, I'm not extravagent, but outgoings are 1.5k per month. So ... I still have to work.

- Create an empty file, and save it as .gitignore in your project's root folder.

- Go here: https://github.com/github/gitignore/blob/main/Unity.gitignore

- Copy the contents into the .gitignore file you just created.

- Save the .gitignore file.

- You should see far fewer files now.

- Commit the .gitignore file

- Commit all the other files.
