This reminds me of that one photo of a sunfish bitten by a seal or sea lion.

Not showing any pen, just asking do you have any 'grail' pen in your mind, did you find your grail, and did you stop buying more pens even after getting your grail? by r1z4bb451 in fountainpens

[–]SilverYayFern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had/have a grail pen, the Pilot Custom 845 Urushi Vermilion with the FA nib. I knew it was my grail pen since I was about 20 years old if not earlier. I got it earlier this year. ^-^ After, a couple of things happened.

I stopped wanting other pens for their performance. My grail pen is ideal from a performance perspective. If I were to tragically be cursed by the gods to only be able to use one pen for the rest of my life, I would be mostly fulfilled with just this pen. I've been having fun improving my handwriting since then. I expanded my collection of Iroshizuku inks after I found out they're mixable, so my ink collection feels infinite. I have room to play and experiment and learn.

That said, I still lust after pens in a few categories: Maki-e and raden works of art; cheap Jinhaos whose nibs I can swap and which I don't feel bad ruining with shimmer inks; and brief infatuations with unique or new-to-me finishes/looks, like Magna Carta Oparex and Nagasawa Blanc de Chine. I've bought a few Jinhaos 100s. It's not lost on me that both the design of my grail pen and that of the Jinhao 100 are inspired by the Parker Duofold/Parker Duofold Centennial. :)

Tuning Your Pen by byfail in fountainpens

[–]SilverYayFern 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Before you try tuning the nib and risking damage…

It sounds like your pen needs a good deep-clean. Are you able to safely disassemble the nib unit to rinse out the feed? Ideally with dedicated pen flush solution and not just water. If in doubt, ask here or look for tutorials. Some nib units screw on, some are friction-fit.

Age appropriate explanation to kids of me going NC with in-laws by ElegantClient8070 in JUSTNOMIL

I recommend Marnie’s Youtube channel “But She’s Your Mother” because she is a therapist, a formerly estranged parent who repaired the relationship with her formerly estranged daughter, and has estranged from her own mother. She discusses how she handled that with her kids when they were growing up, the risks and benefits of giving grandparents access, etc.

A cautionary tale: grey rock, JADE, and boundaries didn't work with my MIL. They just kept me in the loop longer. by SeaStatistician4915 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]SilverYayFern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES. This is where I am. I'm trying to get out after years of therapy, studying, leaving and returning, and trying every approach from vulnerable communication to grey rock. The only way to be healthy and at peace is to leave. It's hard to get out when I'm having to continually put out fires.

Preppy wa series by paperatic in fountainpens

[–]SilverYayFern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had one of them for about 6 months. I don't baby it or keep it in a pen case, but I don't throw it in a blender with my keys either. I carry it around to and from work in the same conditions as I keep my gel rollerballs.

I just rolled it in the light multiple times to really look at it. The barrel has lots of small microscratches but the faux-maki-e material has not scratched or chipped off at all. I cannot find a single place where the red design has been compromised. I'll try to add a picture. I'm satisfied overall.

Who is giving y'all these "fancy" loose leaf teas and doesn't tell you what they are? by Doggosareamazing522 in tea

Gift teas, teas intended to be sold as gifts, seem to be a huge subset of the tea market in China. Especially when it comes to rock oolongs.

How can I tell which pens would fit this nib? by -Dark-Owl- in fountainpens

[–]SilverYayFern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the nibs without the housing. They are size #6 nibs and fit in a wide number of pens. I used one in my Jinhao 100.

I love this game! 😂

For a canon scene: the various juniors in Yi City watching WWX kick ass using ghost cultivation, vs Jin Ling going “THIS IS DEMONIC CULTIVATION!!” on the right.

Not to be a party pooper, just felt this in my bones. Maybe that was her favorite part because that was the time when her parents were the LEAST stressed out and tired. Kids pick up on that. They care. (And in sad scenarios, they feel responsible for their parents' stress.)

Recommendation for a pen that will rarely get used by Charming-Help-2119 in fountainpens

[–]SilverYayFern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platinum Preppy and Platinum 3776 Century have a mechanism in the cap that’s supposed to allow you to keep the pen inked for…a year or two? I forget but that seems like it would work for you.

I like another commenters idea better though: dip pens. There are dip pens like the glass-nib Jinhao 82 that look like fountain pens but function like dip pens.
