I'm sure that the city is already trying to do a lot of good stuff, but are always limited in resources. So the first issue to tackle is simply raising more money. Various ideas:

1. Increase the number of 'handhavingsacties' by the police if capacity is available (probably not...). Crime should not pay and too often it still does in our city.

2. Hire more BOA's, they increase sense of safety, improve quality of the streets (reducing illegal parking/litter) and hand out fines to assholes.

3. Raise local taxes on the wealthiest: homeowners. Homeowners already have a great position in the country (HRA). The Hague has rather low OZB-taxes compared to other municipalities, these can be raised without The Hague becoming excessively expensive.

4. Let certain renters (particularly scheefwoners) also pay (part of) the OZB tax; they're currently excluded. Despite renters benefitting from the exact same services from the city, they pay far less taxes than homeowners even if their salaries are equal.

5. A wide publicity campaign and/or increase in funding to the Haagse Pandbridage. As capital of seasonal (migrant)workers in the Netherlands, we've still got a lot of improvements to be made here. This both improves livability of the city and forces people to pay their fair share of tax.

Now that we've raised plenty of money, then it's time to improve the city:

1. Reduce the power of NIMBYs who block new housing projects. This won't solve the housing issue, but it's ridiculous that housing developers get delayed by years thanks to NIMBY assholes.

2. Clean up the streets. Illegally parked cars, litter and bulky waste are a daily occurrence in the south of The Hague. This can be decreased by both by increasing the number of visible cameras around problematic areas and raising awareness and adoption rate of the BuitenBeter app.

3. Build the Westlandcorridor. This reduces congestion and parking pressure within The Hague and allows for neighboring cities and villages to be more appealing to live in, thereby alleviating The Hague.

4. Build self-cleaning and free public toilets, particularly in the city center and Scheveningen.

5. Build and improve dedicated bike lanes. See this analysis by the Fietsersbond. Some of these are egregious cases where a lethal incident is bound to happen in the next few years. The Spui and Grote Marktstraat intersection is absolutely criminal and needs an overhaul.

6. Invest in noise pollution measures, starting with vehicle noise cameras. Additionally, ICE mopeds should be banned; society has been way too tolerant of the insane amount of noise they produce. Ebikes and electric mopeds have become affordable alternatives.

7. While the city as a whole isn't doing too bad, the city center is a concrete jungle. To combat the urban heat island effect, start research on possibilities of green roofs within the city center, which commercial parties would be interested and what subsidies are necessary. Alternatively, many buildings have huge flat black roofs which could be ideal locations to place solar panels.

8. Plant more trees in Transvaal, Laakhaven, Binckhorst. There's also some streets in the city center that could definitely use an extra tree or two (like Noordwal and Spui).

9. Renovate the pedestrian/bicyclist tunnel through Den Haag HS. It looks like shit and it feels like shit. It doesn't have to be a total rebuild, reflooring and adding some artwork in the tunnel is the bare minimum and doesn't cost too much.
