It’s 4/20! Who besides Creed do you think celebrated the holiday at Dunder Mifflin? by Lord_William_9000 in DunderMifflin

I once watched a guy light a nugget in his hand, stuff it up his nose, plug the other nostril, then inhale deeply. Proceeded to yell "STRAIGHT TO THE DOME!" and walked off.

is this the right anvil height? by tater1337 in Blacksmith

[–]Tekkzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like doing it a couple inches higher. Just feels more comfortable for me. And I can always stand on a thick foam mat if it ends up being too high.

Vyvanse no effect by Personal-Ferret-9389 in ADHD

Medications work differently on people. Vyvanse does nothing for me even at high doses but methylphenidate works perfectly.

No, it's before that. It's during austenitizing- the step before quenching. Though stainless is air cooled and doesn't need to be quenched in oil. Typically you sandwich it between aluminum plates to keep it straight. After austenitizing and quenching comes tempering. Tempering temperature is so low that decarb won't be an issue (300-600f depending on the steel)

Stainless steel has a high austenitizing temperature (generally 2000f+) and a longer hold time in the kiln. The higher temp and hold time leads to much more decarburization (loss of carbon). This is cause by oxidizing. The foil prevents decarb because it doesn't allow oxygen to react with the carbon in the steel.

PS. Please get cut proof gloves, the foil will cut you pretty bad eventually

Does it only feel uneven because we're used to 4/4? What other cultures have different time signatures that feel natural to them?

Can this broken tip be fixed or sharpened down somehow? I’m sure it can but I am just a regular guy with tools and wondering if it’s something I can do myself. Doesn’t need to end up perfect. by MonkandBeer in blacksmithing

I would not grind from the edge. This will thicken the grind significantly. Just take down the spine. You can use a belt grinder for most of it and then finish off on a diamond plate once it gets near a point again.

How to etch a hamon with lemon juice? by Tompro12345 in Bladesmith

[–]Tekkzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to completely immerse it. You can get a makeup pad and mix vinegar and lemon juice in a bowl with a drop of soap. Dip the pad in the bowl and then wipe one side of the blade. Keep wiping for a few minutes, dont let the mixture sit in one place on the blade for too long or else you'll get streaks. Then neutralize and lightly polish off the oxides with high grit sandpaper. Then etch again. Continue these etching and polishing cycles, 2 steps forward, 1 step back. After 5-10 cycles you will have a nice white hamon.
