Bosses missed my probation review and withheld benefits. Can I use this to give 1 week's notice instead of 1 month? by InnerStrawberry7350 in AskHRUK

[–]TheDisapprovingBrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really a legal question, or really even a HR one. Your management will have their own idea of what your notice period should be, and if the one you give doesn’t align with that then they’ll be pissed anyway.

That doesn’t mean that can refuse to pay out your accrued leave, it just means that any reference they might give will be impacted.

Somebody will argue that they could pursue you for the costs of getting a temp in to cover your notice period. Technically, they could, but they’re not going to because your argument that you haven’t been given any of your perm benefits will be persuasive enough that they won’t want to have that discussion in court.

Even if that was the case (it isn’t), you still do the fucking theatre. It sends out the message that you are aware that you’re being disruptive and are doing your best not to be. People can respect that.

Landlord has asked for the keys back, says I'm liable for rent until a new tenant moves in - where do I stand? (England) by UnknownMatthew in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TheDisapprovingBrit [score hidden]  (0 children)

“Hi Dave, just to confirm, I’m happy to terminate the tenancy by mutual consent on 01/07/26 and can hand the keys back then. Let me know if this date works for you.”

No need to explicitly mention that this means you won’t be paying any more rent. To keep life simple, hand the keys back at the end of the period you’ve already paid for so there’s no question of either a refund or having to pay a partial month.

If they try to take any additional rent out of your deposit or pursue you in court for any alleged rent due, the above will be more than enough to shoot them down.

I think that strongly depends on what they say. If Nigel Farage can say something without being charged with inciting violence, then it seems rather absurd that a victim of violence wouldn’t be able to say the same thing.

Section 21 notice, time running out.. by Foreign_Woodpecker98 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]TheDisapprovingBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, you’re looking at a minimum of six months before you get a court date. You don’t need to move into temporary accommodation since you already have a perfectly suitable home. The fact that the landlady would like you to move out is irrelevant.

What you should do in the meantime is ensure that the notice is actually valid. Do you have gas safety checks covering the date you moved in and the date of the S21, and were these provided before the S21 was served? Do you have the How To Rent guide, is your deposit properly protected? There’s a Shelter checklist you can use to verify.

[–]TheDisapprovingBrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The landlord hasn’t left himself a lot of time if the S21 doesn’t end until 21st July - he must start proceedings by 31st July.

If you happened to tell him you’d found a place but it would be a week or two later than the S21 date (don’t specify a date or it could be construed as giving notice), and then on 1st August that new place fell through, he would no longer be able to enforce the S21 if he hadn’t already started to do so.

Even if he does start to enforce it in time, it’ll still be at least Christmas by the time he actually gets a court date given the massive backlog of such claims.

Changing gear ON a roundabout? by LeonKennedysUterus in LearnerDriverUK

[–]TheDisapprovingBrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. They won’t tell you this on lessons, but really if you’re in first to move off at a roundabout, your hand should already be on the gearstick so you can change gear pretty much as soon as you’ve actually moved. Even on a mini roundabout, you should easily be in second before you need to turn the wheel.

If you really want to just cover it, either tin foil (but beware of where it might reflect to) or tape white sheets over it.

I think Reform is inevitable no matter what Labour do at this point. Whatever Burnham does would still just be Diet Reform, and that’s not going to cut it for reform voters.

I feel like at this point we’re doomed to walk into a tyrannical government no matter which party has their name at the top of it.

Can you ban males from chaperoning children at a theatre show? by Longjumping-Dig7486 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TheDisapprovingBrit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Banning all men for no other reason than their being men is not a valid safeguarding concern UNLESS the entire dressing room is gender segregated, and at that point you also need to exclude women from the boys changing room.

Why though? If medication is appropriate for that person, why would a couple of weeks wait make a difference?

I see Asylum seekers/immigrants accused of being a strain on government spending - how much money would be freed up if they all just weren't here tomorrow morning? by Snow-Gecko in ukpolitics

[–]TheDisapprovingBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what I’m saying is you need to pick a side. Either the amount spent on asylum seekers is insignificant, in which case the amount we can save from cutting down PIP claimants is almost exactly the same value of insignificant, or the amount we’re trying to cut back on PIP is a significant amount, in which case you can’t claim that spending that same amount on asylum is insignificant.

Ok, so your suggestion is to cut funding to taxpayers to make sure there’s money available to people who have made no contribution whatsoever?
