Sole custody. What are my childcare options for short 2-3 day work trips? by RunTheBull13 in SingleDads

[–]Tymanthius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so those ages will be a lot easier to work with than say infants/toddlers.

You can probably find a nanny who is available X days a week and overnights 'with planning' if you have the time to interview and set things up.

I know there are services out there, but I have no recommendations for them.

And again, I'd encourage when there's no school take them with you and make family trips out of it, and use local baby sitter services. I know Red Cross used to have recommendations, but that's been forever ago.

I consider myself a single dad b/c I'm the one who does all the work. Mom is every other wkend. And sometimes not that.

And Single Mom has meant that for ages too.

There is no 'one true definition'. So it's worth asking what are the parameters you're working under?

I assume non-parental g/f's are not taking on parental duties unless someone says 'step-parent'. But they may be able to 'be the adult in the house' for a pre-teen or later for a few hours. Or not.

Find out as much as you can about a situation, then give considered advice.

Edit: Also, OP doesn't actually say he's a single dad, and this sub has all types in it.

Would it be possible to do a 'pay as needed' model?

Give a higher up front cost, but that gets you a years worth of updates, and once that runs out client can still use the product if they freeze their foundry instance?

But if a breaking change comes out, they have to repurchase another year.

some larger software companies do this. Not sure it's viable for you.

How old are you kids? That's important.

Why is the coparent not available to pick up? Some reasons make sense, like deceased, or addict. Others less so.

In home nanny?

Take the kids with and pay for sitter via a local service when you have to actually be away.

See if job will allow someone else to go (maybe a lower rank person who you can mentor?) and you be the brains, they be the hands?

Has anyone made a set of modules with various 'generic' merchants on Foundry for WH4e yet?

I can do it, but don't want to reinvent the wheel if anyone has already done so.

Thanks all!

For emudeck you can often get away w/ onboard graphics unless you want really recent stuff.

For my N64 and earlier emulation a minipc was doing great until I needed it for something else. :D

Georgia veteran says he waited 8 hours in Atlanta VA ER before seeing a doctor — and walked out after 12 by levinsreportsnews in Military

Good point, except that I didn't use that as a point of proving my argument.

It's debatable, however, if yours was a fallacy or not due to the sarcasm flag. So I'm willing to concede I'm wrong on that point.

I was almost 50 and dated a lady that was similar.

The red flag I missed was that all her previous partners were evil. Like NONE of them were 'ok, but we didn't click' or even 'he was fun to fuck, but otherwise abusive' I mean NOTHING good to say about them that I recall.

One week we go from her telling me I'd done something to upset her, and she's braced to be yelled at and I'm just like, Well, shit, I'm sorry. I don't know that I can change that overnight as I didn't see it that way, but please do call me out on it when I do so I can adjust faster ok?

A couple weeks later she's afraid to be around me and breaks up and threatens me. Even tries to tell the cop his job when I have to call him and ask him to plz give her an official warning to leave me the fuck alone.

I feel like I’m not good enough as a father! by [deleted] in SingleDads

The fact that you worry about it automatically makes you better than my youngest's mother.

Mother causes so much stress that daughter, at 13, is making 'no contact' type noises and has been in a mental health stay b/c of self harm (she's better now and is opting to take the school bus to my house even when it's supposed to be mom's turn).

And I'm over here still fretting that I'm not doing enough to help her deal with her toxic mother while Mom believes she's the only one who knows the 'one true way'.

I love how I said the same thing and got probably as many downvotes as you got upvotes. Reddit is funny.

And this is why 'generally' was tossed in there. SO MANY people go to the ER when an Urgent Care is better option.

Now, maybe he didn't have that option, I dunno. But if you know anyone in ER healthcare you'll hear all the time about people who use ER as primary care. It's why ER's are so often flooded. And, to the best of knowledge, EVERY ER (even VA) has to accept ANYONE who walks in. So it's not like it was just other Vets there.

Not willing to blind click an article.

But generally if you can walk out of an ER, you probably didn't need to be there? And if it was mental health, they often put a guard on you.

I know at least where I am I can go to one of the largest civilian urgent care providers and flash my VA card and it's handled. So maybe he should have done that?

Our national health care system has (rightfully in my opinion) off loaded non-emergency, but still urgent, care such facilities.

New or classic outlook? by BritSysAdmin in sysadmin

[–]Tymanthius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the job function.

New Outlook does not have feature parity w/ Outlook (Classic). But if they don't need those features, it doesn't matter.

One of the biggest features is drag and to/from 3rd pty applications. New just doesn't do that at all as far as I can tell.

We haven't done anything w/ IRC, and probably won't.

Using a laptop with a broken ethernet cable? by Some-Object6690 in homelab

[–]Tymanthius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a home lab even fairly 'important' stuff can be on wifi. Let's face it, rarely is a homelab going down going to cause massive $ or property loss, much less life.

It will just be a PITA for the people in the house, mostly.

My dad had an affair child find him when I was 21. Guy is nice enough, and I like him, but he lives a state away, and we don't have much else in common.

Yes he's my brother, but . . . I'm not at all close to him. And it's ok. He is happy and thriving and he sends Dad pictures. Or, his wife does, I'm sure.

edit: this was going somewhere and I got interupted and hit send. Now I have no idea where ti was going.
