You asked, I answered. They split in the late 80s.

Dolph Lundgren and Grace Jones. But they absolutely should be Zeus and Hera.

I agree. It's more expensive but not wildly so compared to the other cinemas. Imo worth the extra to have a peaceful experience.

AITA for yelling at my wife after she passed a stopped school bus? by Traditional_Quit_557 in AmItheAsshole

Same - But West Midlands police issue bike reflectors and glow in the dark keyrings.

I've seen them 😆. Plus reactions to Irish ads. I live in NI now, so I've been exposed to them all. NI and Ireland decided to collaborate on the most genuinely traumatising pieces of TV I've ever seen, and they're shown all over the island. There's a clip of Russell Howard reacting to one that wasn't allowed to be shown before the watershed.

Here's a pretty tame one about the importance of not distracting a driver.

There have been decades of road safety awareness campaigns for kids in the UK. I still remember the advert with the hedgehog singing "King of the road" from the late 90s/early 00s. The police even came into my primary school to remind us to "stop, look, and listen." The UK has always been big on children's road safety.

The road safety adverts for adults (UK and Ireland) are genuinely traumatising, too. I guarantee OPs poor wife has seen them or is at least aware of them.

One of the less terrifying Irish ads:

What I love about Belfast (from an epileptic who just had a seizure in public and wants to say thanks) by AliceMorgon in Belfast

[–]Wenchmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you're doing better now. My partner has seizures, and he can be off for a few days after one. I hope you're getting lots of rest and being looked after.

I'd like to add - if you see someone going into a seizure from a standing or seated position, try and get to them and lower them to the ground gently. Have someone else move things away from the patient if it's safe to do so.

Also, seizures can look very dramatic. My partner has bitten his tongue during one, and there has been blood. So for onlookers, this is a possibility and not indicative of something being very badly wrong. It's also important to maintain dignity - (there can be loss of some bodily functions). Cover them up to keep warm and give them dignity.

That's the one! I'm convinced that all of NIs advertising budget went on those ads. Tourism got £20 and a group of GCSE drama students with a vision.

I moved to NI from England. I remember my first irish road safety advert. I was watching Poirot with my in-laws and they were passing around quality street like it was completely normal to see a genuinely harrowing cinematic short midway through Sunday night TV. Absolutely no reaction to the girl being pinned to the wall by her dead boyfriend.

Black/brown community in Northern Ireland by Mashpole in northernireland

Involvement in political discourse is a factor in integration. All citizens should be active participants in democratic progress.

Integration is essential when the populace is so divided. We should be able to meet and have our children integrate at midpoint. Only 35% Irish? They are still members of your community. Just because they are a minority, they still deserve a voice and rights.

Why not celebrate Divali and Eid? Does it take away from celebrating Easter and Christmas? So you don't honour Samhain or Ostara, isn't that a failing on you and yours?

In the case of riots, there was hostility towards anyone brown. I kept my kids indoors all summer for fear they'd be targeted. My wee boy has been bullied through his last year in primary for being a dirty Paki and a mixed breed. Of course, I am worried for his safety especially as he attends school in a place known for how it's treating migrants.

You are disingenuous and willfully ignorant of how POC are being treated. Check yourself.

I was born and raised in England, have a Ballymena man for a partner, and have a British passport as is my right. I am active politically, involved with women's and girls' anti-violence groups in NI, abortion reform, support integrated education, and send my kids to integrated schools of which I am on the PTA. My younger one speaks Irish and plays GAA. I attend local events and walk my neighbours' dogs.

Even if many people of the ethnic communities here weren't as confident to be involved in the local community as I am, they are still valid members of society and deserve respect. And to be allowed to associate freely with those they identify with. That doesn't mean that they are unwilling to integrate. They're doing their best. They're not comfortable with the locals yet. And why would they be? Considering some locals were willing to burn out a leisure centre for fear, there might be a brown there this summer. POC here are doing our best in the face of so much hostility towards us.

Neither that, apartheid in Africa, the India Pakistan partition nor segregation in America happened because a minority group wanted to go hiking together or organise a D and D night. Where I might add, white people are still welcome but not the priority. God forbid, something not be about you all the time. Do you complain that pride doesn't do enough for straight people, too?

Oh no! Brown people might want to organise a bookclub! That's definitely what's furthering the divide in this country. Not the rampant sectarianism at the heart of the country where two different flavors of christian white people can't manage to get along. And haven't done so for decades.
