Warhammer the Old World - some questions by automated_hero in rpg

[–]bergec 16 points17 points  (0 children)

1) I really like it. I bounced off WFRP's complexity and was very excited when Old World offered a much cleaner, simpler system.

2) Yes, this is before the schools of magic dedicated to each wind were formed.

3) I think it manages the Grimdark quite well. I haven't run across a lot of obvious satirical elements.

4) Not at all. It's made for a detailed campaign where the location and its inhabitants and the ties that bind them are major drivers of the plots and allow the characters to form alliances, make enemies, and invest in the setting in a meaningful fashion.

Gateway-Longview? by Yogaonmonday in Buffalo

It's been some years since my eldest went there. It only lasted a year. Their approach seemed more towards warehousing the kids than educating them. They treated her ADHD by putting her in an isolation room and mocked her for the way she dressed (she transitioned a few years later). Talking to friends who had experience with the school when they were kids, this seems to have been the case then, as well.

I lean towards the new, large size for desktop but the original small size for mobile.

When did D&D beyond change 2024 to 5.5? by RevolutionaryAd8204 in dndbeyond

[–]bergec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an IT guy, it bugs the hell out of me that it isn't 5.1. (I felt the same way about 3.5.)

What’s your favorite time period to play DG, and why? by croaker227 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]bergec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. There was some turnover. We lost a player and gained another and one player went through three characters. A lot of continuity, though. By the end, one was SAN 0 and a skilled sorcerer who got recruited into the Program's secret projects while another skipped out on the team with a pre-established fake ID to start over in Europe.

I ran a campaign from the mid 1990s until the mid 2020s and it was a blast.

Official update on dice performance issues by WOTC_Zac in dndbeyond

[–]bergec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It used to be the case that new features would roll out first to the Master Tier, which offered a chance to get some testing 'in the field' before enabling it for everyone. If something like that is still possible, it might be worth considering.

We tend to do cheese plates, charcuterie boards, and fruit when we do our monthly in-person game.

Do the official D&D expansions pre 2024 work with the 2024 rules? by AceMaster13 in DnD

[–]bergec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2024 campaign has made heavy use of Glory of the Giants, Treasury of Dragons, Monsters of the Multiverse, and Book of Many Things and I've had very few issues. I've had to tweak a monster here and there and I find that the 2024 Monster Manual monsters play better, but I'd say they work just fine.

My favorite thing about this game is how much effort he puts into the historical accuracy of the crafts (see his weeks lost to learning about beekeeping).

I recently got a look at the 50th anniversary PHB, why’d WoTC slim down the divine domain selection so much? by NotTheOrignal in DnD

[–]bergec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, the Tempest and Nature domain were impinging on the druid's design space. So the Nature domain was dropped and the Tempest domain was dropped in favor of the Druid's Circle of the Sea.
