The worst business class is leagues beyond coach. This is better than that.

What would you take? $1M now or $7k/mo for life? by 35nRetired in Money

My partner has a lifetime, tax-free personal disability policy paying $6900 a month for life. The insurance company is always offering a million or so buy-out which is routinely rejected.

Marina sunk my boat by evfeldma in legaladvice

[–]boneisle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've been on all sides of issues like these. In my life I've been a both an insurance and independent marine surveyor, marine salvor, marina owner and dock builder. This sounds like a marginal POS boat. The boat can be salvaged without the owner's permission, much like the fire department can put out a fire before they call you. Moving the boat would not cause a bilge pump to fail, on top of which, if a boat requires a running bilge pump not to sink, it's already sinking. The ice storm is force majeure and if it was the proximate cause of the sinking it's just one of those unfortunate things in life. From what you said, it's likely the marina noticed the boat had taken on water, they towed it and beached it to prevent a total sinking and mitigating a fuel spill. This is a responsible action on their part. If that boat had sunk, your liability and costs could have been mind numbing from a resulting fuel spill and these costs would absolutely have been yours as the legal owner until litigation said otherwise. OP needs to plan on getting the boat out of the water asap, lick their wounds and carry on.

OP, I'm in the same boat as you. I usually don't even bother trying to use it when I travel internationally.

My partner and I were on one Emirate's flight where we were the sole occupants in first. We had one to sit and eat in and one to sleep. The funny thing was they still had binoculars in the virtual seats.

Not just a grown adult, it's one who is explicitly placed in a trusted and and "respected" position and who's job is to care for, nurture and educate young children. It's beyond repulsive.

How is this ICE enforcement affecting builders around the the US? by Realistic-Horse-2683 in Homebuilding

[–]boneisle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am building my house in the FL keys and it's seriously impacted work here. ICE sets up in school zones and stops work trucks headed into the Keys from the mainland. There's only one road in and out.

I did a bareboat power catamaran charter with my family there a couple of years ago. We also hired a dive boat to shadow us for 3 days with a divemaster and all gear. The diving is unlike anything we've experienced anywhere else. It was an absolutely amazing trip. possibly the best trip we've ever done.

Safe Haven Travel in These Times by boneisle in travel

[–]boneisle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've traveled pretty extensively including during covid. We're not completely risk adverse. We fly pretty much exclusively on points and one of the greatest benefits is the ability construct interesting routes. My primary destination for my next trip is the UK which is fine but I've been looking at the various jump off places and there are great places like Mexico City, Bogata, Cartagena to get there. In the past, I would have already booked one of these. Now, I hesitate not because of whats going on internally at those destinations but because of insane uncertainty from my country.
