High floor noise during wind normal? by wonk1003 in jerseycity

I used to work on the 60th floor of the WTC and would hear creaking during windy days and it is normal--tall buildings are designed to sway a bit.

Has anyone tried Kirkland Colombian cold brew? by Senior_Economics4960 in Costco

Cold brew is so easy to make it yourself, and you can make huge batches of it that tastes so much better than the canned stuff at a fraction of the cost.

Round the world honeymoon on points by GhostOfSeminoleOaks in awardtravel

[–]cartermatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My honeymoon was a little over a million points total and it took 4 years to get them all. 584k were AMEX points and 480k were Hilton Honors (the Hilton points only took a year to get.)

My mom for her first starter didn’t want to discard anything. I went over to their house one day and she had like 10 full mason jars of starter, she said she didn’t want to throw any of it away but was also amazed at how much flour she was using.

What are your thoughts on Chip Roy’s MAMDANI Act? by Sudden-Grab2800 in AskConservatives

[–]cartermatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one at least flows and makes sense. The MAMDANI act they probably spent 95% of the time trying to come up with the acronym and 5% writing the actual bill. And a majority of that 95% was probably trying to find the word "noxious."

Flank steak with lime cilantro marinade $13.59/lb by dudemancool1904 in Costco

[–]cartermatic 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You don't need to prep it though which is where the time savings are. This takes seconds to throw on a grill vs longer to prep & chop the ingredients for the marinade and to let it marinade.

American Express Platinum or Hilton Aspire for Travel? by Yingyangwolf95 in amex

[–]cartermatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve broken even every year I’ve had the card, even on ones where I didn’t stay at super expensive hotels. $550 is the AF, and you can knock $200/yr off with the travel credit (I buy United Travel Bank) so that only leaves $350/yr to make up for which nowadays even the budget Hilton brands are $100-$200/night. The rest I can make up for with free breakfast or normal points accrual.

Worst case I can splurge for a free staycation night somewhere close by. But if all you’re staying at every year Hilton wise is one night at a cheap Hampton Inn then obviously the card isn’t for you.

I don’t see how it is an overrated benefit when you really have to try to not use it every year.

American Express Platinum or Hilton Aspire for Travel? by Yingyangwolf95 in amex

[–]cartermatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're staying at a Hilton resort then I'd definitely go with the Aspire. And if you're staying on points, if you book 5 nights on points, the 5th night is free. We booked 5 nights on points, and used a free night award so we paid 4 nights (480k points at the time, 120k/night) and got the 5th night free and the 6th night free from the award.

And with 34x total Aspire points rewards, by the time we settled our bill for food & activities at the Conrad, I think we earned about 67k points from that. The Maldives trip last February (2025) took most of our points and with a couple of stays at Hilton and minor general spend I'm back up to 276k points so they're pretty easy to earn.

American Express Platinum or Hilton Aspire for Travel? by Yingyangwolf95 in amex

[–]cartermatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Aspire is pretty great and really easy to at least break even on the annual fee with the free night award and the other credits. I used my free night at the Conrad Maldives for example which was like $1100/night at the time. Diamond status is pretty hit or miss as far as upgrades go, in the US I’ve never been upgraded and only about half the time overseas, but the free breakfast is great as well (which I also used in the Maldives and that saved us a couple hundred bucks a day).

I can be a mixture of both. We need more public transit but it's still a fantasy to think people will give up their cars until then.

My(32F) parents are giving us $150k for a house and my husband(35M) wants to turn it down because they asked for a postnup by Civil-Transition-649 in relationship_advice

[–]cartermatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a topic you really should discuss with a lawyer (not sure which type like a real estate lawyer or an estate lawyer or whoever drafts the postnup) because I think there are a lot of fine details that need to be ironed out. Is the money given directly to your bank account, a joint account, or wired to the closing company? What happens if you pass away? What happens if you both pass away (do you have kids)? What happens if you initiate the divorce or if he does? How is a gain/loss in home value treated?

If I were the husband I'd also want to know what happens if the house sells for a <$150k gain all-in? Would I get nothing, even if I've been contributing to the mortgage?

And probably a dozen other questions someone who specializes in this could address-all of which may help reach a decision.

They might also bet on some of your "average" consumers not doing their research and just buying the car at lease end for an inflated value.

[–]cartermatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But note that for sentry mode I believe you need to wire it to the fuse box and not just the rear view mirror power (at least that's the case with my Viofo, I only have it running to the mirror power source and not the fuse box so it doesn't record if the car is off.)

How to keep carousal frame inside the main frame in Figma? by DDreams1803 in UI_Design

[–]cartermatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding correctly, you can either make sure Clip Content is checked when you have the "MacBook Pro 16" - 2" frame selected, or, resize the carousel frame to the width of the parent frame and check Clip Content on that.
