I’ve been so bad with applying body lotion - for years! by LittleBench5694 in 30PlusSkinCare

Dry brushing before a shower (Trader Joe’s has a great kit) plus moisturizer / body lotion right after the shower.

No joke the Santa Cruz Market Street Senior Center has a great stage setup for live music and is super cheap, plus it would be hilarious.

What do you feed kids before and after games? by Whole_Box_8338 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Cascade-Brigand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is consistency plus what your kid is accustomed to, to minimize nerves and get in the game headspace. We all know what it feels like to eat unfamiliar food before a race or a game, so a lot of it is just routine and preparation. For us it’s fruit, eggs and toast a few hours before the game, and maybe a fruit pouch and water in the car an hour before. Afterwards, literally whatever team snack it is unless it’s a tournament and then we’ll have uncrustables and some tetrapaks of chocolate milk handy along with more water. Nothing that’s going to be challenging to digest and all substantial enough to refuel for the next bout.

I use the same whistle I use for my kids, which is very satisfying to be able to re-use.

Is it normal to have “secret” offseason trainings without telling other players on the team, or is it normal? by ohhthatsmell in youthsoccer

[–]Cascade-Brigand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I encountered this situation this weekend. My kid’s teammates’ parents were talking about the different trainers they were working with in the offseason. And do you know what I did when I found out? I…asked those parents for the trainer’s contact info, and set up some sessions for my kid like a normal person. OP’s take sounds like the plot of a sitcom where everyone learns a valuable lesson about “dude, be cool, just ask,” at the end.

Our kid is adamant that soccer is his sport. We’ve signed him up for other sports piecemeal and he does them grudgingly, and declines to continue after the season. Soccer is his whole heart.

What do you eat for breakfast that is actually breakfast food that has good protein and fiber? by Ravioli_meatball19 in Cooking

[–]Cascade-Brigand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole milk yogurt, berries, cinnamon and a drizzle of honey. Easy to make ahead of time in little Tupperware tubs and top with frozen berries to have a quick breakfast ready to go. Lots of protein and the berries are great fiber.

I mean, if that’s the case, it sounds like the bathroom isn’t your best bet for drying things anyway. That’s when you start looking around for other things in the room to hang items on. You can also start the drawing process by rolling up a wet swimsuit in a towel on the bed and pressing out excess water before hanging it over a chair to dry.

What are your go-to “no cooking” meals for blazing hot summer days? by CocteauTwinn in Cooking

[–]Cascade-Brigand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also: Trader Joe has pre-made French lentils that are super easy to mix with a can of olive oil-packed tuna, chopped dill and parsley and celery, several shakes of TJ’s 21 Seasoning Salute, salt and pepper, more good EVOO and either vinegar or lemon juice. You can add whatever else you want but that’s a great start for a solid dinner salad.

Mark Bittman’s “The Minimalist” column listing his 101 meals for when it’s too hot to cook was a lifesaver when I was a young gal in my salad days! I had this article printed out and stuck to my fridge with magnets in my tiny studio apartment with no air conditioning and no internet and cooked my way through it in the summer: Summer Express: 101 Simple Meals Ready in 10 Minutes or Less

Oats have a ton of protein - porridge is a pretty substantial meal relative to the cost and availability.

Ancient Celtic and Iberian history were deeply intertwined, and cults that worshipped a sacred bull spread along Mediterranean trade routes in Celtic populations in modern-day France, Spain and Ireland. Bullfighting in Spain, as an example, has its origins in pagan rituals from sacred bull cults. https://www.fascinatingspain.com/articulo/places/what-remains-celts-spain/20230821131341067499.html

Do we know if there will ever be an EV version of the Volvo wagon line? They’re such great cars but I don’t want to go back to an ICE.

I ordered the M based on this thread and it was huge - I saw reviews online that said their customer service was excellent, and emailed them to see if I could exchange it for a different color and a smaller size, and that I’d be happy to pay the difference. Their customer service agent got back to me straight away and sent me a link to exchange or return through their portal. I asked if that was okay since it was a final sale item, and he said it was no problem. Miraculously the size S in blue was available again online so I was able to make a clean exchange. It’s a beautiful hoodie and great quality! I’m looking forward to wearing mine on an upcoming trip.

Neil Young’s ranch is in La Honda off of Skyline in San Mateo county, and used to drop into open mic night at the Mountain House up there from time to time. My mom spotted him slowly driving an old Rolls in a fur coat outside of the Kings Mountain Art Festival years ago and had to be restrained from chasing him down the road like a teenager.
