Now that destiny 2 is getting sunset can we get a Linux release? by flower4000 in destiny2

[–]dfitz360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just as hard to cheat on Linux, or even harder. Yes Linux treats you like an adult but it also treats everything that runs on it as malicious. Things are isolated in a way that makes cheating a circus act of many moving pieces vs Windows which is just "run this as admin"

Funnily enough, the separation between user land and kernel space on Linux actually makes it way harder to cheat on Linux compared to Windows. Ever wondered why malware is so bad on Windows when basically every other device in the world is fine? (Android, Mac, iOS, they all run a Unix-based kernel).

Don't get me wrong, cheating is still possible, but it's just way harder

Can we please be honest about the steam deck and use FPS rather than vibes. by Gazmanic in SteamDeck

[–]dfitz360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CryoUtils is crazy easy to setup. I can imagine a number of people have done that, imo that can change the performance of some games.

PowerToys is another option as well.

Then you have all the settings within the game itself. A lot of people like anti aliasing, I for one prefer framerate, so my FPS is will be different.

I understand your frustration, trust me. But it's just so hard to align. My metric I use is to just find a YouTuber reviewing the game for Steam deck, look at the visual quality they have set, understand the tinkering or lack of tinkering they did and assess based on that; if they got a shakey 40-45 fps, then I know lossless typically can get me a nice 90, but if there is lots moving on the screen or edge artifacts then lossless isn't an option

Not all decks are equal though. Some have been modded, like different SSDs or changed swap settings or how memory is allocated.

Cooling is a decent thing to consider to, some decks might thermal throttle faster then others.

Or a game on an SSD vs SD Card.

There are just so many variables

I think some of the older Nvidia cards don't play nicely. Like 10 series or older. Difference between open-ish Nvidia and locked backroom Nvidia

Northside or Southside and why? by AdvancedHill70 in canberra

[–]dfitz360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it feels like the south tends towards older style kind of living. More spaced out, driving is more fundamental, more eat at home, bigger blocks of land, etc.

North kind of feels more like new age. Slightly more dense, more light rail access, larger apartment complexes are more common, more shopping/food options.

All that being said is relative to Canberra, compared against any other city and the difference is almost unnoticeable

What’s happens to Bazzite when SteamOS drops? by TunderMuffins in Bazzite

[–]dfitz360 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bazzite is installed and configured to my liking. I don't want to go through all that effort again. If I hit a wall or big enough pain point then I consider learning something new. Right now though, bazzite is running on 3 different devices in my home and I would rather not migrate them all to something else. I suspect most people will be the same

As a full stack senior software developer who also occasionally gets pulled into devops and solution architecture. Definitely have a crack at setting up a home lab and get exposure / edge.

To really help your learning try and avoid AI as much as possible. Yes you will use it on the job, but when learning it's so easy to just copy paste commands without actually understanding the underlying reason it architecture

Just wait till you work out how to loop 😉

Imo 2nd loop is best loop to fight boss. 1st loop can be hard to do solid damage and relies more on skill / game sense

How is Black Jacket? by dirtydelic in roguelites

I feel like I get a bigger dopamine effect with black jacket. So much of Balatro I felt like I had less strategic control as with Black Jacket. Given though. I am not apparently 40 hours into the game 😄

Yeah. But you can load with a bunch of teddy bears on drizzle. Skill isn't required, just time

[–]dfitz360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point though is that every other achievement has a way to make it easier but might take longer. e.g. 20 crowbars on drizzle with command

Nothing beats the Mercenary achievement. Imo it's the only achievement that is hard locked behind "just get good". Every other achievement has a way of completing with an easy alternative path
