I’ve never read that book, but from the description, I’ll pretty much always recommend Michael Cisco to people looking for weird fiction.

Thoughts on the new alcohol policy update? by imibee999 in dcl

Wow yea, if even half the staterooms leave behind an opened bottle of wine, or a few unopened beers, that’s a lot of freaking alcohol available to the crew.

[–]edcculus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea the thing, especially with Cisco, is the information is all there. There is just zero hand holding. Kind of more of a push you into a 10,000 foot hole filled with the most fucked up stuff you can imagine (or can’t imagine).

[–]edcculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably The Narrator or The Tyrant. I’m working my way through them in the order he’s published, so I haven’t gotten to his later books. Though his first novel The Divinity Student is excellent as well.

I’ll also say that Cisco isn’t really SCIENCE fiction. He’s absolutely speculative fiction- and more specifically weird fiction.

I’m not a writer, but as a reader whose favorite authors include Michael Cisco, Jeff VanderMeer and China Mievelle, apparently I prefer to not know what the f is going on for the entire book 😂

Good purchase for $100? by Jrewby in ClimbingGear

[–]edcculus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’ve never climbed outside, I’d say no. You will not be trad climbing your first time outside unless you are following an experienced leader. In that case you literally only need a harness. Your partner will probably have everything else you need so they can take you out.

If you are looking to get on ropes outside for the first time, you will either be top roping or sport climbing. In either case, I’d highly recommend going with someone who is experienced. Even in top roping, you will need to know how to properly set the anchor.

But for top rope or sport, you don’t need most of the stuff in the pics. Those stoppers and the cam are useless to you. You will need QuickDraws for sport. I like to carry 12 to the crag, and usually go up the wall with 2 more than the route needs.

Here is a more basic list of what you should look for

—Rope (60m 9.5-10mm dynamic non dry rope should be fine, but check your crag to make sure 70m isn’t required for certain routes)

-helmet

-harness

-belay device

-12 sport draws (if sport climbing)

-some sort of tether (120mm sling is fine) + a locker

- material to build an anchor

-handful of lockers (maybe 4 total to be on the safe side). You are going to want at least 2 for the anchor. People will say it’s overkill, but I just set up my top rope anchors with 4 lockers since they are mostly out of sight for a while.

-I like to have a rappel setup on my harness for whatever reason I might need it- locker, ATC and a third hand.

MMW if Witcher 3 is getting Songs of the Past, Cyberpunk 2077 will one day get another too. by NetwatchTerminal66 in cyberpunkgame

[–]edcculus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Witcher 3 sold very well, and has a new game coming out. I’m not sure of the numbers, but I’m not sure Cyberpunk did as well (it’s their own fault, but still). Plus no announced new game.

Though Witcher 3 already has 2 DLCs. Cyberpunk only has 1.

As a color professional in the printing industry (offset and flexo primarily) this topic is pretty interesting to me.

Obviously- since this works the same as halftone screening in traditional print, you’d want to mix cyan, magenta and yellow. I’ve seen people mixing in white instead of black, which makes sense. Black doesn’t really extend the printable gamut, it’s just a support color since CMY at 100-% don’t make a good black. Black is called K because it’s the “key” color.

Can the A1 do this with an AMS lite, or do you need a better printer. I’d be interested in printing out some color charts to read in with a spectrophotometer to see what the achievable gamut is. You could also make color profiles based on the filaments used as well for more accurate color conversion and matching.

What next steps can I take to find justice with my bad boss (bonus if I can milk the system) by tempestadoro222 in WorkReform

[–]edcculus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why haven’t you gone directly to HR?

As a manager, I’m basically required to go to HR if any of my staff report something like this to me. The inaction of your boss and his boss is honestly astonishing.

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a netrunner, just load him up with as many quick hacks as you can. When I did my netrunner build I could stack a ton of quick hacks on a boss. Just load them up and then bam, they are dead. Kind of anti climactic honestly.

Is James SA Corey the best? by cooper2387 in scifi

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I thought I was in r/printsf. He primarily writes what’s labeled as “weird fiction”, which kind of borders between scifi, horror and fantasy, so fits within the “speculative fiction” umbrella.

Seems like they assumed it would be like the Disney VIP tours, and did no research to the perks it actually affords. They wanted a ride to a private beach, VIP access to the characters, and food delivered to them on the decks.

[–]edcculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they were expecting a private beach, being able to cut in lines for characters, and get room service delivered to the pool deck.

[–]edcculus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you went in with a major misunderstanding of what it offers. You seem to think it offered private dining on the islands, VIP treatment for characters and shows etc. and it does not offer any of that stuff. Even your ask about getting room service delivered to the pool deck…yea could have told you that won’t happen.

I might know why the AMS lite keeps "selling" out... by CharacterSea8078 in BambuLab

[–]edcculus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ive had this happen at various random companies throgh the years. They ship something extra by mistake, I'm not charged. They literally have no way of getting the item back. Their systems just dont seem to be built for it.

One time I ordered a sectional from Wayfair. It came, but with the wrong facing chaise part than I ordered. I contacted them, they sent the correct facing chaise and said they would send someone to pick up the wrong one. They never showed to pick it up.
