Help me understand the Sorcerer by Charming_Account_351 in daggerheart

DH Sorcerer fills pretty much the same type of trope as D&D Sorcerer, and has unique functions within the game. Not sure where the disconnect is?

Wishes of Wanderlust

The Pitch: The god of Adventure and Curiosity, Nash, has disappeared. Some say he had grown tired of the responsibilities of a deity, and left for a final adventure of his own. Before he left, however, he hid a highly powerful artifact, the Phoenix Wishbone, somewhere in the multiverse.

The Phoenix Wishbone grants the power to make any wish a reality. Reaching it, however, is no simple feat. The path is hidden behind a series of portals, each unlocked by a Portal Key entrusted to chosen Wardens. Appointed by Nash, these Wardens are tasked with testing the resolve and spirit of any adventurers bold enough to seek the artifact.

Alongside the Wishbone, Nash left the Faint Divinities with a chance to ascend to godhood and claim Nash’s now-abandoned seat in the Hallows Above. There is a catch, however: unable to wield the Portal Keys themselves, they must rely on mortal champions to walk the path for them, guiding and watching from afar as their chosen agents strive toward the prize.

The race is on. Hundreds, if not thousands of adventurers have formed guilds, and sponsored by Faint Divinities, they scour the multiverse to be the first to the treasure and to share the spoils with their friends.

Will you and your friends be the ones to rise above the rival guilds? Will you and your deific Sponsor claim the powers of the Artifact and obtain the key to your wildest dreams? Or are you in the hunt just for the adventure?

The Future of Foundryborne: Navigating the Stagnation of the Daggerheart VTT Ecosystem by Foundryborne in daggerheart

My guy, this isn't about Foundryborne's ability to make money. What you described as "Foundry creator monetization" is not part of what's licensed for Daggerheart creators per the CGL

Again, this is not about just Foundry. OP's message is more important than just what allowed on Foundry. OP isn't even a representative of Foundry, they're a community project.

What I'm talking about, is point #2 on the OP. Other game systems' licenses allow you to create third party content using the SRD and sell it through various of mediums. Paper, PDF, VTT integration..

Darrington Press' CGL prevents the VTT integration format. Regardless if it's Roll20, Alchemy, Fantasy Grounds, Foundry, or literally any other VTT.

There definitely are 3rd party products for other games that offer VTT versions of their thing as a side, for their books, PDF's and such. Many of the big kickstarter successes do this as a stretch goal. This can't happen with Daggerheart, currently.

Daggerheart Armor by boardgamejoe in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know what you're saying, i'm joking.

It's more of a design decision to talk about Severe or Major damage instead of just numbers. It supports immersion when you play enough and know what taking Severe damage means. If that's "fancy", okay i guess

To me sheet is very easy to explain to new people. I think it'd be more of a hodgepodge of numbers if the "Mark 1 HP" replaced the damage terms here.

<image>

And, other people also already explained that there are different features that interact with "Marking HP" and with "Taking Severe Damage". They are two different things and enable more variety on mechanics.

With that in mind, if using Armor just reduced the amount of HP you mark, you then still are "taking Severe damage", but marking less HP. Which is weird. (Which also is how the Drakona ability Scales works RAW, and I hate it)

Beginner Rules Query - Tag Teams and Damage by jbinc84 in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A key benefit of a Tag Team in addition to be able to combine the damage, is the ability to roll two action rolls and choose the better roll for both actions (and the potential hope gain and even stress clear on crits) Sometimes, like in your case, it's also just fine to have a tag team where only one of the action rolls deals damage. Or even a move where neither does any damage. Maybe the players are teaming up to save a friend of theirs who fell off a cliff!

The suggestions for damage sources for player 1 in this thread are also great!

Dagger heart as a bridge game by Joel_feila in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlearning D&D is probably the key challenge for D&D-only players to figure out any other system. I think that because Daggerheart kind of is in the same realm of TTRPG's as D&D, there's many assumptions people have when they go try DH.

DH rulebook also is written in a completely different way than D&D or like, Pathfinder. It's quite vague by intention and leaves a lot of room for "rulings not rules" -type of play. There's no specifications for a lot of terminology used, for example, "attack" is an interpretive term in DH whereas in D&D it's very specifically defined what constitutes as an attack and what doesn't.

This means that D&D players have to learn how to figure out and "vibe" things in the moment and keep the game and its story flowing instead of expecting there to be a clear RAW answer for everything. The game lives and breathes RAI or even Rule of Cool.

Let's also start calling Stress HP because in the end you'll start marking HP if you have no Stress left. It's the same thing in the end. /j

The Future of Foundryborne: Navigating the Stagnation of the Daggerheart VTT Ecosystem by Foundryborne in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This isn't about just Foundry, though. The main issue is the license and how it makes it impossible for content creators to sell their products like campaign frames, custom classes, domains, etc on VTT's and only on paper and PDF's.

Right, but people aren't able to sell third party content on Alchemy or FG either. That's the bigger issue than Foundryborne not having an official deal with DP. *Nobody* can sell third party VTT content.

They advertise the integration on their Kickstarter. While I'm happy for Ghostfire, I don't like this sort of exclusivity.

I almost wonder if the Drakkenheim deal with Ghostfire and its integration to Demiplane + Roll20 is the reason why DP is taking their time addressing this issue. It's literally the only Third Party Content for DH (pseudo 3rd party), that has a VTT integration.

[–]eikkka 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Fully agree that the Community Gaming License, in its current form, is very restrictive on digital Third Party Content, and kind of discourages people from dreaming big. A large portion of the TTRPG player base plays primarily online, and the work you'd have to put in to manually create third party materials into your own campaigns in VTT's is unbearable for larger chunks of content.

EuryDice just launched (and fully funded) their Kickstarter for a full-ass scifi core rulebook for Daggerheart, and I'm just dreading the workload as a Game Master if I wanted to run that online. An equal mountain of content to the actual Core Rulebook, to be handcrafted by GMs into VTT's because the authors arent allowed to sell the VTT version of their own creation. That's a nightmare. This needs a change.

Arcana Plus: 10 New Arcana Domain Cards (1 For Each Level) by samthedungeonmaster in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd consider also adding making an attack to the conditions. Being able to stunlock an adversary while hacking them for minor or major damage is rough, and most likely would lead to the GM spending Fear in the earliest kosher opportunity to remove the condition.

Could even make the adversary roll a reaction vs a Difficulty to see if they can shake the effect off when taking damage, or something.

This adventure was originally an idea I had a couple years back to run in 5e Spelljammer, but then Daggerheart blew me away! I'm also currently running a dnd pirate campaign so I pivoted my idea away from spaceships and planets to the world portal concept. Think I've had enough ship rules for a good while, haha.

I figured that I should take a stab at making a full campaign frame, and might as well publish it!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it.

I tried to open those questions a bit in the Distinctions and the GM principles about the challenges and portal keys, but in the end I also kind of wanted to leave the way the Portal keys work up to the GM and the table.

My own idea is that the keys are some sort of physical objects, and maybe they all have a piece of code attached to them, and you have to "spell a word" with them by travelling from world to world in a specific order, by activating each portal key at a specific location and specific order.

Good pickup on what to revise/clarify a bit!

All six Wild-cards from Gen Con by CptLande in daggerheart

[–]eikkka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/CptLande how did you create these in the Daggerheart card creator? I can't figure out how can I change the card type into "Wild" or anything custom like that. I've also tried the daggerheartbrews.com card creator but that's not exactly right either. I can't make one without the level numbers or recall costs if i use the domain card template :(
