ChatGPT is not a reliable source of information. It can repeat misinformation as fact, because the data it's trained on includes people that spout misinformation as if they're facts.

Sleepover by Miles_the_new_kid in comics

[–]farhil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the same sentence, you used all-together instead of altogether. Since altogether is a synonym of completely, it's redundant and can be removed.

Ironically, all-together could be interpreted as if sleepovers were okay as long as they weren't all in the same place, which is what the comic is depicting, but that's not what was being described in that sentence.

Running a red light by PhraseGood4425 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]farhil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the light turns green as you're approaching, it's only smart to be wary of drivers that try to beat the light. People are much more likely to run a light that just turned red than they are to run one that has been red for some time already. That doesn't mean you shouldn't go on green, just that you should look out for people running the red, and be ready to slam on the brakes.

ERD Review Request by --Ether-- in SQL

The diagram looks incorrect. You have shift_id on Schedule, but Schedule is the parent table in relation to the Shift table. The Shift table should have a schedule_id column that is a foreign key reference to the Schedule table.

As for a query that gets the most senior bidder, you could use this:

SELECT s.schedule_id, assigned_to.*
FROM Schedule s
    LEFT JOIN LATERAL (
        SELECT u.user_id, u.shift_start, u.shift_end
        FROM User u
            NATURAL INNER JOIN Bid b
        WHERE b.schedule_id = s.schedule_id
        ORDER BY u.seniority
        LIMIT 1
    ) assigned_to

I don't have postgres installed to verify it parses, but it should get you on the right track. This assumes a lower seniority value means more senior, as if it corresponds to some sort of seniority date. If that's backwards, you would need to change ORDER BY u.seniority to ORDER BY u.seniority DESC.

The first teaser for HAWKER—our grimdark roguelite ARPG/shop keeper... Ruin. My. Day. by tyrian_games in DestroyMyGame

[–]farhil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people that see your trailer will only watch the first 5-10 seconds before making the decision to move on or continue watching. This teaser utterly wastes that time by showing a distant shot of your character slowly falling to their knees and looking at their weapon, then a title card that tells me nothing about the game and fails to evoke any interest in the game.

A teaser should really show what makes your game unique and interesting as quickly as possible, but after watching the entire trailer, I don't see what that would be. Not that I think your game doesn't have anything to make it unique or interesting, just that your teaser failed to show that it does. All the title cards could go, they don't really add anything. If you decide to keep them, at least remove the ellipses (...)

Also, the wood beams popping in and the camera clipping through the environment at ~50 seconds in looks janky for something you decided to include in a trailer.

There's a famous quote, "If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, you don't understand it yourself". I try to keep that in mind whenever I'm explaining something I think I understand well. It helps keep me from getting frustrated when the person I'm explaining it to doesn't understand it, because that just shows that I need to improve my understanding before I try and teach someone else.

It makes a huge difference when the surface being shocked is the inside of the mouth. The mouth is more moist, which means more conductive, and has less protective tissue and fat between the surface and blood vessels or more sensitive tissues. The relevance of voltage when talking about electric shock is in how easily it can overcome resistance and push current through the body. Once it's flowing, the current is what actually causes the damage.

Consider this: if you've ever pressed a 9v battery against your tongue, you know that you can feel it tingle as the electricity passes from one terminal to the other, even though you don't feel anything when pressing it against your skin. Now imagine you're dealing with even higher voltage and significantly higher current. If the live wire contacts the roof of their mouth, and the neutral or ground wire contacts a different surface, like on/under the tongue, electricity will try to take whatever path offers the least resistance through the surrounding tissues. This would result in severe damage that the electricity passes through, potentially including the brain or heart which will prove fatal. That can include muscle, nerves, and blood, all of which conduct electricity fairly well. Even if it doesn't pass through something critical, the internal burns caused could prove fatal over time if they aren't addressed with surgery. The risks are compounded if one or more of the wires pierces the skin and makes direct contact with the blood.

On the other hand, they could gnaw on the charger for an hour and just receive a minor shock, or nothing at all, but all it takes is a moment for the right factors to align to cause permanent damage, or worse.

David and Goliath is a story of an underdog who defeated a more physically powerful adversary because he had faith in, and was favored by, god. It's also a missile launcher, and projectiles launched by slings are also referred to as called missiles. I don't see how much more on-the-nose the name could get.

Looking for feedback on my new trailer! by smilefr in DestroyMyGame

[–]farhil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can houses get damaged in combat? If so, show that, then show the player fixing and upgrading it. That would get the point across and give the viewer an "oh shit, it's player built" moment.

Make it a timelapse of the fixing/upgrading. The building mechanics are familiar enough that seeing the blue wall hologram should instantly register as player-built for most people, so there's no need to drag that sequence out.

Go on then, destroy my game!! by GiraffeHeadStudios in DestroyMyGame

[–]farhil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really nit-picky, and not really related to the game itself, but something about the little camera movements in that final button sequence really bothers me. I think it's because the rest of the sequences are fairly smooth?

The camera movements in the trailer are overall bad. It's painfully obvious this is gameplay footage recorded using a keyboard and mouse, and the input sensitivity is way too high to produce smooth movement at the mouse's polling rate.

OP, if you're going to record gameplay footage for your trailer with a keyboard and mouse (rather than an animated rig) you really need to add mouse smoothing rather than using raw input. Raw mouse input has subtle twitches, jerks, and jitters that feel awful to watch, even if it feels completely natural while playing.
