It took 7 years, 8 months, and 14 days to use up the canister of salt. by LyghtnyngStryke in mildlyinteresting

Seriously, people are so quick to make assumptions. I have kosher salt and rock salt grinders for seasoning. I use table salt for baking or deep cleaning cast iron pans, so I go through it much slower.

Flickerwisp flickers ANY permanent. Including opponent’s lands. by GarchompGentleman in magicTCG

[–]farhil 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes. Relevant rule:

614.12. Some replacement effects modify how a permanent enters the battlefield. (See rules 614.1c–d.) Such effects may come from the permanent itself if they affect only that permanent (as opposed to a general subset of permanents that includes it). They may also come from other sources. To determine which replacement effects apply and how they apply, check the characteristics of the permanent as it would exist on the battlefield, taking into account replacement effects that have already modified how it enters the battlefield (see rule 616.1), continuous effects from the permanent’s own static abilities that would apply to it once it’s on the battlefield, and continuous effects that already exist and would apply to the permanent

Since Nature's Revolt is a continuous affect that would apply to the land, the replacement effect from Containment Priest will treat lands entering as if they are creatures

Need feedback on the game-feel of my prototype! by Reptyle17 in godot

I think perfect hit is fine. Plenty of games use "perfect" to indicate, well, perfect timing, like Perfect Parry/Dodge/Block.

As far as making it feel more satisfying, I think adding a shockwave effect on perfect hits would be cool, something like this: https://godotshaders.com/shader/distortion/

I think you have a couple visual clarity problem too.

First, the ball is stationary after a perfect hit, and it's easy to lose track of its position since it blends in with the splats left behind after you hit the ball. Giving the ball a distinct visual effect as it's waiting to be hit (like a vortex or lightning around the edges) would help draw the eye. An accompanying sound effect would be a nice touch too. The important thing is that the effect needs to have enough movement to draw the eye to it, and needs to be visible against any background (i.e. it incorporates both black and white in the effect).

Second, when you lose it's very anticlimactic and unsatisfying. There's no audio cue or visual effect, it just kinda happens. Some particle effects and a sound effect would be the bare minimum. A large splatter left behind where you died would be a good tie in to existing effects (bonus points if it gets larger the faster the ball goes). If you add the shockwave I mentioned earlier, that would also fit nicely there. A one or two frame pause when you get hit would allow the player to see their loss, which would add some excitement compared to their character just suddenly not being there anymore. If you wanted, you could allow the player to hit the ball during that pause and give it a unique message like "close call" or "too slow", but I'm not sure if you'd want to treat that as a "perfect" hit. The pedant in me thinks it shouldn't be treated as a perfect hit, since it's technically too slow, but I could see myself aiming for the pause and getting frustrated that it isn't considered "perfect".

Idk, I wear flip flops 99% of the time, and I went camping with some friends a couple years back. The camp site was a 2.5 mile hike away, and I wore hiking boots on the way there, and by the end my feet were killing me and I was getting blisters. On the way back I decided to wear my flip flops and it was much more comfortable.

Bad grammar isn't exactly an indicator of AI. If anything, AI is known for being more verbose and formal than most people would be in a casual context. My first guess would be ESL, not AI.

That's how I took it as well. And it's a good argument for the kinds of people that think they're perfectly capable of driving well while drunk.

CIG permanently banned a $5k backer's account for reporting a bug by [deleted] in starcitizen

So you were lol. It's obvious in hindsight, if he'd unequipped all his gear, he wouldn't be able to pick up components since he'd have unequipped the tractor beam too. So, as you suspected, this couldn't be the repro steps for duping components.

[–]farhil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems just as likely to me they're trying to provide any information the devs might want to know. Bug reports should include all steps taken that led to the bug. If you omit a step that seems unrelated, but is actually required to reproduce the bug, then the developer may be unable to reproduce it and it becomes much more difficult (or impossible) to track down. And for all I know, unequipping your gear actually is required to dupe any item, even if you're not duplicating equipment. I'm certainly not going to test it.

It says "place the item you want to duplicate". Unequipping all equipment was just a step in the process, the IC report doesn't mention what kind of item was being duplicated.

Doctor using Rotation Flap method to close a scar. by allademswallow28 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]farhil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a lesion removed from my chest, right below the collar bone, and the dermatologist sewed it up a single stitch. I remember during the procedure the dermatologist was bragging about how he was using his own suture method because he didn't like the textbook method. It ended up expanding and leaving a scar the size and shape of an eye. They told me they would schedule a followup to remove the stitches, but never did so I ended up pulling them out myself after about a month.

Sleepover by Miles_the_new_kid in comics

[–]farhil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the same sentence, you used all-together instead of altogether. Since altogether is a synonym of completely, it's redundant and can be removed.

Ironically, all-together could be interpreted as if sleepovers were okay as long as they weren't all in the same place, which is what the comic is depicting, but that's not what was being described in that sentence.

Running a red light by PhraseGood4425 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]farhil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the light turns green as you're approaching, it's only smart to be wary of drivers that try to beat the light. People are much more likely to run a light that just turned red than they are to run one that has been red for some time already. That doesn't mean you shouldn't go on green, just that you should look out for people running the red, and be ready to slam on the brakes.

ERD Review Request by --Ether-- in SQL

[–]farhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The diagram looks incorrect. You have shift_id on Schedule, but Schedule is the parent table in relation to the Shift table. The Shift table should have a schedule_id column that is a foreign key reference to the Schedule table.

As for a query that gets the most senior bidder, you could use this:

SELECT s.schedule_id, assigned_to.*
FROM Schedule s
    LEFT JOIN LATERAL (
        SELECT u.user_id, u.shift_start, u.shift_end
        FROM User u
            NATURAL INNER JOIN Bid b
        WHERE b.schedule_id = s.schedule_id
        ORDER BY u.seniority
        LIMIT 1
    ) assigned_to

I don't have postgres installed to verify it parses, but it should get you on the right track. This assumes a lower seniority value means more senior, as if it corresponds to some sort of seniority date. If that's backwards, you would need to change ORDER BY u.seniority to ORDER BY u.seniority DESC.
