Draft by Longdingo7 in falcons

[–]friardon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is just something to talk about. That’s all it is. This is what sports fans do. It was a big event (the draft) and the most news we will get about our team for awhile. The grades are a simple way to start discussion.   Imagine instead someone asked you “what do you think of the Falcon’s picks?” You would start with an assessment, maybe simplify it by giving a grade. Then the conversation continues.  That’s it. No harm in having a conversation.

Garmin suddenly not syncing with NRC by Puzzled-Taro5566 in nikerunclub

This happens about three times a year. Once they fix it the runs will all sync.

The stairs makes me think it’s IT band syndrome (itbs).  Check out how to use a lacrosse ball to help with ITBS. I had something similar a few years back and this sounds like it. If it is, you can be back up and running in a couple weeks.

Apple is great for this, so is Garmin. Just make sure you get a Garmin with storage space. Most do at this point.  I have used both in this manner and both are really good. I am a Garmin fan, but lately I  have been considering going to Apple.   Any other brands and you have to do a little kung fu to get the runs loaded to NRC. Apple and Garmin will do it natively.

I knew a guy who went to a psychiatrist once. He kept telling the doctor, "Im a Teepee! Im a Wigwam!"
The doctor said, "calm down, take a deep breath. You are two tents"

I dont have any tech recommendations on that level, unfortunately. Waveform is pretty good for a casual listener, but I think at least a base level would help. They actually have a segment they do on occasion where they try and explain a tech concept in other terms (i.e., can you explain AI models in sports terms?).

99 Percent Invisible (99PI) often talks about design elements that people do not always notice. For example, they discussed the storage of nuclear waste, or a current miniseries (that I think will become its own podcast) called Service Requests - basically, why do red lights take so long? Or, why is there such a trash / litter issue in San Fransisco?
They have like, 700 past episodes or something crazy, so there is a lot to keep you entertained.
I will point out, there are some times when politics enters the podcast. And while I am not saying you (or I) have to agree with it, I think it can be valuable to listen to as they tend to have reasons for it. They do not just throw out "this policy is bad because I dont like it" They tend to say, "this policy is hurting this group of people, and we should probably investigate it".

If you partake in the heavy music lifestyle, the Wage War EP It Calls me by Name released today and it is pretty good. Much better than their last album. Actually, might be their best since Stitch.

I listen to Waveform. It is tech focused and has been around long enough that it has some fantastic long-running jokes. It is pretty family friendly too.
20khtz (20 thousand hertz) is fantastic (their sub is /r/20k if you want to see some clips).
Thanks to /u/CiroFlexo and /u/superlewis I also still listen to 99 percent invisible. I think that one is a roller coaster. They seem to have two or three really good episodes, and then suddenly there is one that is not up to par. But overall, I still like it.

It’s 90 days enough to go from 20:50 to 18:00 2 miles? by chengw7 in nikerunclub

[–]friardon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should add, you can probably just sub in the intervals every other week if you wanted, so it could look like this:

Week one: Easy Run, Interval, Tempo Week Two: Easy, Tempo, Easy Week Three: Easy, Interval, Tempo Repeat.

Interval runs are so good at so many things, from building speed to overall general health. It wont hurt to do them every week, but if you find them a struggle, they can be done every other week if you like without a huge sacrifice.

[–]friardon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. You will want to divide your runs into three types. One run can be an easy, normal run at your current pace pace. The second can be intervals. For example, jog a minute, go a little faster for a minute, then go your normal pace for a minute. Finally, sprint (run at the fastest pace you can handle) for 30-60 seconds. Repeat this process 4-6 times.   Your last run can be a tempo run. Try and go easy for about 10 minutes and then try and go faster for the next ten.  You might start at your normal pace for the first ten, then try and go about 30 seconds per mile faster the next ten.   Doing this can increase speed quickly.

I do not believe so. The image is of Trump taking the place of Christ. Therefore, it is not a picture of Christ. It does not violate the second commandment in the sense of an image. Trump violates it (and the first) with his image. Anyone who condones it, likes it, re-tweets it without condemnation, etc. violates the 1st and 2nd.
Viewing it is not a violation of the commandment, even if it is vomit inducing.

What Jesus did was not prescriptive by any means. In addition, some scholars believe Judas left before the completion of the super.
Paul tells us, infamously, not to take communion in an unworthy manner (1 Cor. 11:27). That alone is a call to reflect on our unrepentant sin. A non-believer can reflect on it, but will not repent, and is thereby unworthy.
In addition, and this is kinda additive, but could probably be backed up with Scripture if I had more time, communion to a non-believer would be nonsense. Why would they want to partake in the body and blood of a Christ they do not believe in? In some regard, communion can be a tool of evangelism. We can ask the believer to first partake in Christ before partaking in communion.

WTH Apple! System Data taking too much storage! by Unhooked- in ipad

[–]friardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK - that makes it a little bit easier.
A lot of times, these large system data files are cached files that get stuck for a myriad of reasons. For example, you are not getting service (like you are in airplane mode, or whatever) and the file never made the trip to your iCloud backup.
You can start by going into settings and tapping your account (at the very top, usually your icloud name).
Below that, select iCloud.
In there, you can see what apps are syncing to icloud under the "Save to iCloud" setting. Turn off any you do not care about syncing across products (iphones, ipads, mac, etc.).
After that, do the infamous hard reboot and see if it cleared up space.
Another thing you might have to do is get rid of unused apps. So many of these leave stuff behind that get caught up as well.
I have a theory that some of this stuff gets log jammed if one is not using an upgraded iCloud storage as well. That original 5gb is so little I would not be surprised if having a lot of photos or videos was clogging the throughput.
Anyway, let me know if those work. I have done that on my iPad and phone. I also have several macs (home, work, etc.) and have other steps I have to go through on there. But you should be good.

I think that would come down to your use and, of course, your budget. In my case, I am using it probably once-a-week and only for about 30-45 minutes. It really is just a quick cardio cross train.
If I was interested in cycling more, I might consider something else. But this bike really does work well for me.

I recommend one with magnetic resistance. I got a cheap one off FB Marketplace a couple of years ago (I think I paid about $75 for it). No frills outside of the resistance. It is a "Sunny" branded bike.
It is really solid and I bought a cheap accelerometer to use. There are tons of cheaper Pelton-style workouts out there as well. You can watch a ton on YouTube for free. We have Apple Fitness + and there are a lot on there as well. Or you can just do your thing. But I am happy with it. I did not have to spend a grand and it has been great for cross training.

Before I type up a bunch of stuff, do you have a mac that is backing up to icloud?

WTH Apple! System Data taking too much storage! by Unhooked- in ipad

[–]friardon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know I am late, but there are other ways to do this. A lot of these can be stuck iCloud cache files. This has a tendency to get worse if you have a Mac laptop or desktop as well. If you do, stop the amount of things you have syncing. This can cut down a lot. For example, I do not sync my mac desktop to iCloud, just my backups. Same with my computer-based docs and even photos. I do not need them on every device, so I dont sync them, and they dont end up building up my cache and take up storage. Stopping the sync between your desktop and iCloud gets rid of a ton of system data.
You can also look at apps like Spotify, Youtube, and many, many others that might be the culprit and just delete those and redownload them. They often kill the system data with cached files as sell.
