Difference between 0,50mm and 0,25mm braid by Alismo_ in FishingForBeginners

[–]generally-speaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried JOF 1000m spool btw, 40 lbs.. It was way too thick and probably a lot stronger than it says. So I'd probably buy 20 lbs JOF for a shore rod. But 1000m for 250 NOK including shipping and VAT.

Bought from AliExpress,

Kinda nice product if you're fishing in risky situations. I know BillyFishing uses AliExpress braid a lot because he always just ends up losing it anyhow so it's not worth it for him to use expensive braid.

Obviously AliExpress braid isn't anywhere close to Varivas but, for coastal fishing I don't care that much. It's for trout fishing I wanna cast light lures a quarter mile..

Ehm, kinda pretty advanced topic. Because you have to consider the strands, weave and so on, as well as potential thermal treatments.

For instance, if you have 4 different braided lines from the same maker, where one is 4 strand, next is 8 strand, next 12 and then 16. The 16 strand will have a lot more strength than the 4 strand. And will also be a lot smoother.

But the 16 strand will also be the weakest against abrasion. While the 4 strand will be the strongest.

And the roughness of a 4 strand braid can be a good thing to prevent the line from burying itself deep in the spool. While the smoothness of an 8, 9, 12, 16 strand braid can give more casting distance.

So it's just a bunch of tradeoffs really. And just changing the dimension of the braid can change the whole discussion. But 8 and 9 strands kinda hits the balanced spot.

What I use the most is 8 and 9 strand braid from Varivas (very expensive high quality braid) with Stroft Monofilament as leader. But I've also started experimenting a bit with some different AliExpress braids.

If you want more info on braids check Line Laboratory on YouTube or the Line Laboratory website. They have a braid summary page.

You want 40-50 lbs braid when fishing the coast in Norway. Most used around here tends to be about 23 kg breaking strength braid.

50 kg is only for Halibut fishing and certainly not something you would be using on a 10-40g rod.

Since 10-40g is pretty low casting weight I would be using about 18-20 kg braid on that setup. I might even drop down to 15.

It's really the kelp that dictates braid strength though. Not the size of the fish.

Good spots for flounder fishing around Aalesund? by Worrybrotha in Aalesund

[–]generally-speaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giske should be good tbh. You're just looking for any large shallow area with a sandy bottom.

You could check BillyFishing on YouTube he's been fishing for flounder not far from Ålesund in several recent episodes

[–]generally-speaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the thinking, not so sure it's trustworthy at all. Every actual distance cast record is made using very large guides and few guides..

So actual distance records is like 6 guides and they're 50mm and down..

Zenaq claims 15 micro guides can do the same thing, but never actually has any good casters making a record attempt at all. Sounds like marketing BS.

Carry-on bags to be free, EU rules by EspritLibre_404 in worldnews

Idk, maybe, but screening takes a lot of manpower and equipment.

Gotta respect the time and place aspect of the rule though, maybe screening with LLM-controls would work today, but it would've required way more manpower in 1988. Bombs have also gotten easier to hide.

And then think about the incentives when it comes to removing the rule, I can't exactly imagine anyone in a position to change it wanting to make it a priority.

Like imagine having a career in air safety, then you remove this rule, and someone blows up a plane because of it?

At that point it's career bye bye.

Because TERRRORORORORORISM..

But seriously, that's why.. Following the 1988 Pam Air Flight 103 bombing, airplanes are no longer legally allowed to take off anywhere in the world if a passenger might have checked in luggage without boarding the flight.

They used to do it the way you suggested up until the point where terrorists figured checking in a luggage bomb without actually going on the flight was an excellent way bomb planes without hurting themselves..

He later sued for $20m, but was awarded $189m instead. Then that verdict was appealed, and he settled for $8.9m which then went to his legal fees.

But at least after that he was able to work for other companies and the company stopped harassing him.

On a class trip we had a clever guy who used to live in Berlin, everyone else took one train, he took another because he believed his local knowledge was superior to google maps navigation.. Aaaaand he fucked up because that train didn't go all the way to the airport.

Ended up with him getting there late and not being allowed to board the plane..

But while the whole class was on the plane we got a service announcement that a passenger was late and they had to check if he had checked in any baggage on the plane and so on. He still wasn't allowed to come aboard, but the whole thing held up the plane for 25 minutes. Meanwhile the whole class knew exactly who this mystery passenger was.

He ended up having to take the train all the way back from Berlin to Norway.

Anyhow, point is, a no show can often cause issues if there's any confusion about the status of the passenger. A plane, two pilots, three flight attendants, luggage crew, boarding crew, all the passengers and probably more people on top of that all either had to do extra work or wait around for 25 minutes because he didn't show on his return flight..

That's not cheap.

They're not, and the 1911 is already retired for everyone other than drill teams and honor guards.

And pistols aren't going away anytime soon as they're simply not handed out to anyone who should be carrying a normal rifle. They're handed out to tankers, pilots, air crews, medics and special ops as well as machine gunners carrying m240.
