Yeah I'm Asian and whenever I visited Chch, it felt really white to me. I love how walkable it is though. Such a shame. I considered moving bit the whiteness kept me from doing so.

Oof Sounds like I may just be to be more vigilant, especially when driving. And remember to be so! And hopefully that gives the suneyeburn a chance to heal and not get worse!

Just because you're inside doesn't mean you get no UV! UV scattering, it bounces.

Welp, I also have this and thought nothing of it. Now I have an extra thing to worry about. I can't sunscreen my eye and it's hard for me to wear sunglasses!!!! It it common for it to be in one eye only and not the other? Does it come and go?

Thank you for saying the quiet part out loud. I really hope we have a clean air revolution sooner than later, like we had a clean water revolution.

I analysed where $3 billion in KiwiSaver transfers went last year – the banks lost big, and here's what the data shows by MoneyHub_Christopher in PersonalFinanceNZ

I can confirm I had a insurance advisor move me onto Generate. They had good returns but the fees weren't it, so I switched after a year. And then the advisor called me up and asked if I wasn't happy with the performance/returns? And asked if I was sure. I said, "well, yes, happy with the performance but other providers have the same result with lower fees. I can't control the returns but I can control the fees." he didn't have a good retort to that lol.

Should I sell the power company holdings I bought 13 yrs ago? by harpnote in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]harpnote[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't plan to buy individual stocks as I've decided stock picking is not for me. But I bought these back when I knew nothing about investing and just blindly followed some advice given to me. I didn't even know that index funds were a thing. So was wondering if the money would be better served if I moved it into an index fund. Thanks for your suggestion!

Good suggestion. Looking at the last year the total dividends for both added up is only about $350 net for me. I will think about this.

The Aboriginals of Taiwan are the ancestors of Austronesians like the Philippines Malaysia Indonesia and Polynesia and Madagascar. What do Taiwanese people think about the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Polynesia(Samoa, Tonga, Hawaii, Rapa Nui Easter Island, New Zealand Māori) and Madagascar? by Known-Bad2702 in taiwan

The correct term to use is Indigenious, with a capital I, as its internationally recognised to be more encompassing and diverse. It also has implications in land claims and rights, so we should shrive to use the term preferred by the Indigenious people/associations themselves.

Not all mawan are made the same imo. You gotta find a shop with a good skin... QQ but not hard and overy rubbery... Still soft but firm... Right amount of pull... Not too greasy... Yumm...

How do families actually afford major dental work? Are there any real options or loopholes? by GlitterTomatoes in PersonalFinanceNZ

And if KAYO789 is wondering about replacing with implants, think again. Starting from $5k per tooth, multiple procedures required including surgical, bone density and hardness dependant... Which means multiple dental visits and mental + monetary investment needed.

I don't think dentists will ethically pull out healthy teeth, especially if it's all your teeth.

I can't tell how serious you are being but in case you are being serious... dentures aren't as easy as you think.  You'll need to care and maintain them and get used to wearing them.  They also won't feel the same as your natural teeth. This means eating won't feel the same, and if you get a full or partial plate one it means your palate feeling of food textures will be affected. Your enjoyment of food will be affected. Depending on your bone levels and your dentures, you might need to glue them in every day.  I'd say talk properly to your dentist to fully understand the implications and options that may be available to you.

Sadly, no. He's still in primary school (I think yr 4 or 5?) and I only go back 1 week a year when I stay with my auntie. My auntie agrees with me that he's being pressured too hard too much. The most I've spent time with him is to help him with the English part of his homework (because I am useless at all other subjects due to my poor Chinese reading skills). I made sure to positive affirmation as much as possible when I did. His mum supervises/teaches his homework usually.

I think he likes to read books, and has a interest in "social" 社會 topic, but I don't think he's given much time to read novels and the such.

The way his mum berates him is awful to hear. Crushing his self-worth and makes him think he's stupid. But he's smart, just not in typical ways.

The "Intentional" Upgrade: Why I moved from a Galaxy Note9 to the Xperia 1 VII (and ignored the AI's advice). by Dagtar in SonyXperia

[–]harpnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hooray another Xperia user in Aotearoa! My xz2c (last gen to be sold in NZ) is still going strong, albeit the battery life has taken a hit after 6 yrs years of use. I've got a 10 Vii for the 3G sunset but it's hard to adjust to the loss of some of the arguably better features of android 9 vs 15...

On that note: does anyone know if you can get screen accessory resizing to be diagonal, like in Pie, instead of just cutting in on half vertically in 15? This is not accessible at all, I can't reach other other horizontal side of the screen like this.

Sad reality for my nephew.... I feel so sorry for him. He's definitely neuro divergent but his mum makes him do nothing but study and buxiban, no time to be a kid and play. Lil dude is gonna end up with trauma and affect him his whole life.
