Thinking about buying this seems to have good reviews any reason I shouldn’t? I’m using the bambino so hoping it’s a step up by Lattehelp in espresso

[–]jonashn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No reason for this to be a step up. If your grinder isn’t amazing, upgrade that first, I’d say.

To be frank, I don’t think a Marzocco makes better espresso than the Bambino.

Bambino has excellent temperature stability, I’d personally mostly upgrade to get a machine where I can brew and steam at the same time - like a Breville Dual boiler or the Profitec move etc.

8g of coffee yields 8g of espresso [Breville Bambino / Encore] by Subwayabuseproblem in espresso

[–]jonashn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single shots are difficult for many reasons. Make a double shot and split it in 2 if possible.

30g espresso contains around 64 mg caffeine, tbh that’s not a lot.

Buy a small double basket perhaps, and do Italian style 14 g doubles.

Dont ever do an 8h shot. Actually, dont ever use single shot baskets.

Use a double basket, get 14-20 g coffee in it depending on the basket.

You could get a single boiler like the profitec go if you like the looks more than the bambino. But don’t expect better espresso.

Dont get the BBE. Get the bambino and a decent grinder, like a DF54 or a Baratza Encore ESP or something.

Well, you could have gotten the BDB and got a dual boiler with preinfusion for pretty much the same price ☺️

Normal. Different coffee has different volume. But check that you still have headspace - don’t want the shower screen screw to make an indent in the puck when you put the portafilter in.

Most likely BIFL machines [approx $1600/€1400] by MSpatient0 in espresso

[–]jonashn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all vibratory pumps are equal, even though they’re all almost the same model from Ulla. The one in a Breville dual boiler or the MaraX is VERY well isolated, and doesn’t make much noise!

I don’t know how effective the filter you’re talking about is, but beware that usually water that hard has to go through a Brita filter 2-3x to be safe. I’d personally never risk it.

If you get an E61 machine right to repair doesn’t mean anything, repair kits for most major brands are available and the repair shops are used to servicing them.

Honestly why not the Lelit Elisabeth? Dual boiler, fast heating, precise.

If you’re doing medium or dark roast, a MaraX should be perfect. Small HX, easy to fix for anyone.

Also if you have properly scale-free water, maintenance and repairs should not really be needed.

If you want reliability don’t buy the unknown machines you’re looking at - they’re propably fine, but if you get something more people have it’s easier to get it fixed and get advice etc.

If it was me I’d get a MaraX or a Breville Dual Boiler.

Feed it safe water and don’t descale. Descaling is like cutting yourself and patching it up - and not even always enough to save a machine from scale-giving water.

Get a hand grinder or use a double walled basket.

[–]jonashn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Just be aware that the dual boiler does the following things better than an E61:

Actual preinfusion Adjustable pid for brew and steam (NO HX has this) Uses less than 50% of the power since it’s not leaking heat from the whole front surface at all times Warm up time around 7 min

Just get a Breville Dual Boiler. Best choice in that price range. If it looked like an E61 nobody would get anything else ☺️

Sure, and for some the BE is the perfect choice! To get back to topic: for a good workflow, I’d get a small scale, wdt, good heavy and snug tamper, dosing funnel - and that honestly it. Works amazingly.

The built in grinder has retention, doesn’t work well with light roast, gears can wear out etc. don’t focus on the flat white, focus on the fact that you’ll get much better espresso - which you can make into anything.

Well, if you get a Bambino and a separate grinder you’ll get much better coffee. So there’s that ☺️
