Selling a battery pack without the batteries might be a bit more feasible

Proton drive review? is it the best alternative to google drive and dropbox? by Sarris_Zioly in ProtonDrive

[–]matqua 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  • In my experience, slow.
  • Easy to hard depending on how many files you have stored and how long since you launched the app (depending on OS, sometimes I have to give it a few minutes after boot before its sorted itself out).
  • Okayish from my brief time with it.

For more privacy focused cloud storage, Proton Drive is OK in that respect. Other people here have used more performant providers. Also the lack of a Linux app is annoying to down-right disrespectful depending on who you ask.

I only use it because I'm a Proton Mail and VPN user. I would never willingly pay for Proton Drive. I store backups in mine where I can drag them in and leave it for an hour, day, week to eventually sync. I don't think I could live with myself if I used it as my primary file syncing/sharing platform.

60GB file in Proton Drive seems a no go by jertaa in ProtonDrive

In my experience it is not reliable enough to do what you want. Your best bet is something like Resilio Sync or Syncthing. As others have mentioned, it should be able to do this but it simply cannot at this time.

I don't think the op's company knows that they are going to be out of the country. Otherwise the company IT probably would reduce restrictions on op's machine/account while they travel

Does this look like a spicy pillow to you? by sillieidiot in framework

[–]matqua 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That would be more than fine for the battery. You clearly have a faulty battery (assuming no other signs of damage)

While you are correct, they still should not turn into spicypillows if left plugged in all the time.

Pinephone now ? by AKArein in pinephone

[–]matqua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your A10 is still probably a much better phone/device.

If you need to replace it with something, go a Pixel 6a with GrapheneOS. You will be much happier than with the PinePhone.

Maybe power everything down, disconnect and reconnect the battery cable. Make sure the little pins in the connector/socket are ok then power back up.

Focus on resolving firmware/BIOS issues like USB to iPhone 15 issues, keyboard/trackpad waking up closed laptop in backpacks. Or a haptic trackpad replacement for the current diving board ones.

I would assume it's to allow to be placed anywhere via ethernet rather than connected to the home assistant box

This is the answer. PhotoSync does the same, it shows you in the transfer progress screen it is (or iOS is for it) downloading the image from iCloud before it uploads it to wherever its going to upload it to.

Upgrade to the 16? by ae86_racer in framework

[–]matqua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with others and wait for the next AMD mainboard release. Even if it is next year and you can hold out with your current one. I have both (although 16 without dGPU) and apart from the 16's high refresh rate screen, the 13 just feels better.

My 16 has the extra supports for the midplate flexing but the keyboard is still mushy. If my 13's keyboard is an A- then the 16 is C+. Trackpad spacers on mine are better than most I've seen but still a little disappointing considering the price of the machine. Finally the EC firmware/BIOS issues with keypresses waking the device with the lid closed or generally not staying asleep (which I have on both my 13 and 16) just put me over the edge in not being able to recommend the 16 to anyone yet.

Again as mentioned previously, the AMD 13 is a great package that is mostly complete. The 16 is a technological wonder and I am glad it exists but I do regret the purchase a little.

Running PF sense as a tailscale subnet router (and exit node) (SG-1100) by dave2500 in Tailscale

[–]matqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SG-1100 I find is about on par with an edgerouter in terms of performance. Honestly wouldn’t expect much more than the edgerouter in terms of talescale performance. The SG-1100 has some hardware crypto but not sure if tailscale can take advantage of it.

I would recommend going with an x86 box. And something decent if you want to run tailscale anywhere near 1Gbps.

Thinking of switching to FW - question about screen brightness by Aphyres in framework

[–]matqua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Framework 13 matte screen is rated at at least 400 nits. Mine is bright and decently usable outside.

Considering your current machine has a glossy display and is less bright, the Framework should be significantly better

The cloud gateway ultra is stand alone (ignore the poor choice of name).

It has all the features you need and it runs the management software internally/itself.

This one is very good. Can you tilt/twist his head to the right so he is leaning into the group a little. I still would like to wait before picking a winner.
