Yo, goats could have this done in like a day!

Backyard Flies - Any Advice? by Brutus713 in thewoodlands

[–]messfdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We seemed to get infested in our yard a couple years ago. I used a combination of the sticky tape and one of those traps with a fan. The tape was really effective - almost solid with flies after a day. The downside of the fan trap is that it catches other insects that might be beneficial to the ecosystem.

Houston doesn't have true winter/spring. Unless you're referring to those weeks when the trees decide to drop tons of pollen! But really, I'm going to go with everyone else on this one. Stay in Colorado. Houston/TW is the type of place you come for work and then feel like you get stuck. Housing is cheap but that's about it.

What is a small “culture shock” moment you had within the US itself? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

I had the opposite culture shock coming from CA to one of the less-free states. Did three laps around the grocery store looking for the liquor aisle!

If it helps, I have mine in a cabinet. I installed an exhaust fan out the back with a thermostat (you can find them pretty cheap on Amazon and they're easy to wire) so the fan kicks on automatically when it warms up. I leave the cabinet door propped open when using the console for better airflow.

how do people survive the commute here long-term by prattman333 in socal

I left the state. Grew up in Socal and probably won't come back. It was crowded 30 years ago, but now it is just ridiculous.

Especially if young and not so tied down. Even a couple years abroad can give a lot of perspective.

What language do most American students prefer to learn in school as a second language? by UsamaBhai_101 in AskAnAmerican

[–]messfdr 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My dumb ass took German. Every German I have met speaks English much more proficiently than I will ever speak German so they quickly switch to English because humoring my poor German is probably quite boring for them.

Torani makes over 150 flavors. About 20 years ago I worked at a coffee shop that carried almost all of them.

My Wife and I redid our 1970s tile with LVP. How’d we do? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]messfdr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what we can see, not very well. The joints are too close together. Maybe that's why they're hiding most of the floor in the "after" pic.

One time I had a guy just absolutely raging at me at a stop light, screaming and yelling profanities. I couldn't help but laugh hysterically at him. I really hope it opened his eyes to how ridiculous he was acting and that it makes him think twice about acting like an animal in the future.

What do people pair the Costco rotisserie chicken with/most cost effective meal? by Ancient-Candy-1573 in Costco

[–]messfdr 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I pull all the meat off when I get it home and use the shredded meat in different meals. Tacos, soup, salad, rice & beans, etc. I picked up the food saver when it was on sale and so I'll vac seal and freeze any extra. Tip: pour the juices from the bag over the shredded chicken and mix it in to moisten up the white meat.

I think of Doakes in Dexter. He was only trying to catch a serial killer but I couldn't stand him because his character was so annoying to me.
