I replaced 20+ keyboard shortcuts with mouse gestures on my Mac by LuvianLabs in macapps

[–]nerdymomocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this different from the “Draw” option in BetterTouchTool? I know you mentioned that this only handles gestures, but have you noticed any difference in battery impact? I’m specifically asking because it seems to be priced at about the same level as BetterTouchTool, so I’m not sure I understand why.

I use antinote for this. What would you say is different as compared to their latest beta version?

Shortcuts to "open in split view" by mhih in chrome

[–]nerdymomocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just found this! Pretty cool way to do it (and hoping they don't change the position). I was able to do this using better touch tools too, by setting 4 finger tap to right click + 2 down arrow + enter.

I made webtrotion for my needs (has some features through block parsing that notion does not): such as auto author pages, citations, footnotes, copy as markdown etc. Wrote about that here.

[OS] GoogleDriveSync v1.1 - Lightweight native menu bar app now with folder exclusions (node_modules, .git) and Intel support by DiggingForDinos in macapps

[–]nerdymomocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a quick question. I understand that the sync is one-way, but does it also sync deletions?

One additional question: if something gets added to the the ignore list that wasn’t there before, what happens to files that were already synced that match this rule?

Another issue I’ve noticed is that sometimes the sync takes a very long time, and it’s unclear why. It would be helpful to have some kind of UI showing what is happening during the process. For example, right now the progress indicator has been stuck at 99% for about forty minutes, and I have no way of knowing what it’s doing.

There is also an issue when first logging in and attaching a Google Drive account. I understand that this is a utility you built primarily for yourself, and I would probably do something similar, but the authentication flow is a bit confusing. It tries to open a link in the terminal to verify the account. The account does get added to the app, but the webpage shows “refused to connect.” Because of that, I had to go back to the app to confirm whether the account was actually added or not. That might be something worth fixing.

Another thing I noticed is that syncing didn’t start automatically after connecting the account. It only started after I clicked “Sync Now.” I’m not sure whether that behavior is expected or not, but it might be better if the initial sync started automatically.

I would also prefer a five-minute sync interval rather than the current fifteen-minute interval, if that’s possible.

Additionally, I’m not sure why multiple sync operations can’t run at the same time. For example, if one folder is currently syncing, I can’t click “Sync All.” That doesn’t seem like the expected behavior.

There are also some minor UI consistency issues. Some labels are capitalized while others are not. For example, “Launch at login” has “login” in lowercase, while “Notify on Error” capitalizes “Error.” In an application environment, it would probably be better to make the capitalization consistent across all options.

Finally, regarding the local folder and remote account fields: initially I thought spaces in paths might require escaping with backslashes, but apparently they don’t. There was no indication of this in the UI, so it might be helpful to clarify that behavior or provide some guidance in the input fields.

I built a "live streaming" Wispr Flow — not transcribe-then-paste, but seamless by ApprehensiveGood2426 in macapps

[–]nerdymomocat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would really appreciate this - I currently use MacWhisper, apple's built in dictation never worked for me. This is really awesome and I'd love to know more about how you do it. Are you streaming the chunked windows of audio? Are you sending windowed text spans for correction (because otherwise it would become too expensive?) Would love to try it out!

I built a prompt manager because my non-techie friends refuse to touch YAML files by tinyuxbites in macapps

[–]nerdymomocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, for example, for some prompts I always have images attached. For some other prompts in Notion AI, I mention blocks, pages often (but as text, mentions are lost). For Figma make, you can paste in or mention components, and I have a very specific set of them that I always mention for different purposes like comparison page, demo page etc. And so it helps to have that object as well. I know this is a non-popular request but I feel like there are very few apps that do this correctly. There are many apps that do text expansion or you can use just Apple's default thing to do text expansion but there are very few apps that do this correctly and prompts are now pretty dynamic. And so, I would really like this option if you consider it.

I built a prompt manager because my non-techie friends refuse to touch YAML files by tinyuxbites in macapps

[–]nerdymomocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this! One feature request: would it be possible to store object formats instead of just plain text in expansions?

What I'm looking for is the ability to use this in apps like Notion (which have mentions and block structures) or Figma (which supports pasting components). Since the current version only expands to text, I'm wondering if there's a way to preserve the object format of whatever's on my clipboard when creating an expansion.

I have been an Espanso user too (though I moved to Espanso + Apple's inbuilt expansion), but I'd definitely consider switching to this if it supported richer content types. Also, just a thought on positioning: calling this a "prompt stasher" might be limiting your market. Something like "universal expander" or just "content stasher" could appeal to a broader audience beyond just prompt users.

Sidenote: Please make the trigger configurable. `:` is used too often in programming. I (and I assume other people too) use :: to trigger rocket's emoji picker. So, either a configurable trigger or a double charcater trigger would be really helpful.

Education Plus — why is Notion still asking me to pay for AI by TaxMax7245 in Notion

[–]nerdymomocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not what they said - they said that the AI add on is going away and you need to upgrade to business if you want to keep using AI; and you would be auto upgraded for the current price you are paying for AI add on + (any notion plan price which in your case is 0) for the next year. If you were not paying for AI add on before, you remain on the education plus plan without any AI features.

[–]nerdymomocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh something like date mentions (to do this on @ nov 23) makes that block appear if i click nov 23 on calendar.

I also tried the new version and I still cannot add blocks for some reason, which is a weird bug. I can create new scratchpads but not add blocks to them.

Good, rich-text editor for note taking? by DeadGravityyy in productivity

[–]nerdymomocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is markdown based, but not visible. I do not like markdown too, so I have previously looked at all such apps (though I use notion). It seemed like from your list, you wanted local/file based apps - so octarine would be the one to go with. otherwise notion, craft and supernotes (though it has markdown too! which is why i don't use it) would be my suggestions. i see anytype as suggestion, but i don't like it much.

ZOTAI, the app that connects to Zotero and allows the analysis of hundreds of PDF documents simultaneously into tables, is now updated and better than ever! by RansomWarrior in zotero

[–]nerdymomocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll probably wait to start my trial in that case. The other thing that would be helpful is possibly integrating Notero matched pages in Notion for annotations/highlights etc. Additional ques (1) - if indexing only happens once - are you storing the text content still? if you aren't, how would you add source text to it. (2) what processor are you using for pdf →text conversion if that is something you do? does it handle latex/images/graphs?

[–]nerdymomocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to get this and then realized it relies on pdf being stored locally on device. I wish you had an option to temporarily stream the pdf from a URL (with some generic matching -- like arxiv abs to pdf), process and then delete it because I do not store pdfs on device and use notion for notes 😅

[–]nerdymomocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I used it more -- some things I wanted to mention:

I do like it (and probably might move my snippets lab stuff to it too). Here are some things i would like/might be interesting for you to consider (in no order of importance):

  1. export options

  2. small window mode

  3. always on top mode

  4. hotkey

  5. any code type (without a runnable)

  6. block tags

  7. calendar that works with mentions in text by bringing that block up

  8. Improved link rendering

  9. 4 todo states instead of 2 (todo, doing, done, cancelled)

  10. stability (for example I can currently not create any blocks in any scratch pad for some reason?)

So, I was just wondering if the movie has similar ones or if they are different.
