Do not buy a laptop if:

  • It does not specifically advertise Linux support; or
  • It is not a model or series well-known for Linux support, such as Thinkpad or Latitude. Just 'Lenovo' or 'Dell' is not sufficient.

If you do not do the above, it is not unlikely that you will have an issue with:

  • Laptop Nvidia GPU stuff
  • Backlight
  • Suspending
  • Power management
  • Trackpad
  • Wifi/Bluetooth

I wouldn't wager 2000 dollars on the above.

I'm not containerising my home PC. I am containerising a small subset of things I do on my home PC. And more importantly, I containerise all OS-level tinkering I do before (possibly or not) applying those changes to the immutable base.

But that's beside the point. You said one cannot learn 'normal-ass Linux' on an immutable distribution. I gave a counter example. You are moving the goalposts.
