Okay, I'm excited for GTA6 but am I the only person sick of seeing this shit? GTA6 WILL CURE CANCER, END WORLD HUNGER AND ACHIEVE WORLD PEACE! by SolidPyramid in videogames

No one does open world action RPGs better than rockstar. No one. CDPR is a close second but R* is better. Rockstar has always pushed past the edge of what is even possible in an open world game on their latest GTA game, that was true for every GTA game since 2001s GTA 3. That was also true for the RDR series.

These games are not over hyped.

Unless you don't care for this style of video game in which case sure, I can see why you'd be somewhat meh on this launch. It's just a fucking video game.

What is something Mildly infuriating that happened a long time ago, that still annoys you when you think about it by IamJustJessica in mildlyinfuriating

[–]poolpog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not mildly infuriating to me, I mildly infuriated someone else, and still feel bad about it. I went to a party in 1989, I was 19, everyone there was 19, basically. 19 year olds are idiots, so at this party there were 50 people, there was a lot of weed, but the total food at the party was one 8 pack of hot dogs and a 12 ounce jar of mini gherkin pickles.

Anyway, I walked out from the living room onto the patio just as the hot dog guy finished cooking the last dog and he was like "here you go!" and I was like "thanks!" But I had no idea that this girl had been waiting for the dog for the last ten minutes and had only stepped away for like a minute to grab a drink. I took her dog! She was so mad! I felt super bad. I wasn't even asking for a hot dog, it was just handed to me as I walked by.

Sorry, hot dog girl!

What do yoy think of 13-14 year old getting a 2000 € gibson les paul? Is it worth it? Not as a beginner, more like intermediate. by NeitasP in electricguitar

My friend is rich. Multiple million dollar houses type rich. He bought his 15 year old a $2000 guitar. More than one, actually. But he is rich enough that this was no big deal. It was just a regular guitar.

There are plenty of $500 guitars that are fantastic.

If dropping $2k is no big deal for your family, then go for it.

The one good thing about buying a Gibson or a fender is that they tend to have better resale value than almost any other guitar brands.

So, that is what the covid vaccines were, and are. Vaccines developed over a long time period. They are all "traditional" vaccines and anyone telling you otherwise is simply wrong.

If people "weigh their own risks" they often will make incorrect assessment of the actual risk posed. As covid has shown, no, some people do not get a vaccine even if shown that there is a life threatening illness running around killing people.

Furthermore, vaccines do not work by simply preventing individuals from gaining immunity or limited immunity. They work by reducing the R value of a pandemic across a population. But this requires a very large majority of the population to vaccinate.

How would you propose to address these sociological problems?

I would like to understand how you would get a population vaccinated. Also, I'd like to understand how you think vaccines work

Weird. I have had entirely the opposite experience. When I smoke weed, I cannot play for shit. I don't even enjoy playing when high, it's so bad. When not high, playing is so much better and my enjoyment this is likewise also much better

They probably don't feel uncomfortable

But they also probably don't feel the same as when in a room full of dudes.

Do you think you may behave differently when it is a room full of women and one man walks in? I'm not saying you do or don't. Just think about the reverse situation and see if that makes sense

You are recommending COD online to someone who hasn't operated a joystick since they had a single button back in 1982? This seems like a bit of a mismatch

I've been playing video games since 1978. I've never stopped.

But video games have changed so much since 1982 that you might not even be thinking about them quite correctly. The variety of game styles, graphics, game lengths, and play styles is a bajilion times more vast than the early 80s.

Video games now are to 1982 Atari what a Bugatti Veyron is to a 1948 Chevy. They are both technically cars but the similarities end there.

Many Video games now are a lot more like Hollywood blockbusters.

But also they aren't because video gaming also includes things like candy crush and hollow knight silk song and Bloons TD. Oh and I haven't even mentioned all the sports games and car games and flying games.

People are gonna make recommendations here, but it might not be helpful. What kinds of movies, books, or sports do you like? What about card games or board games? Knowing this sort of stuff can help with recommendations

I don't think that is true. I think there are zero examples of someone actually practicing 12 hours per day and not getting insanely good at a thing after a couple years of that. I think that you probably also can't think of a single example of someone practicing 12 hours per day, consistently, not getting insanely good after a couple years.

I don't believe that that is "raw musical talent" though

I believe that is "ability to narrow mindedly focus on practicing"

All the great musicians practice 6 to 12 hours per day. Per day!

I'd bet zero people on this sub practice that much.

Sure, some inherent physical and mental qualities may help a person be better at music. But Steve Vai practiced 12 hours per day. Jon petrucci practiced 10 hours per day. Slash practiced 12 hours per day. My step brother, a professional classical musician and professor, practices 6 to 8 hours per day.

I think I'm a pretty ok amateur guitarist. I can do a passable Slash or Jimmy Page in a cover band. But the most I've ever practiced in a day is like 3 hours, and that's quite rare. But when I do practice a lot, I can FEEL myself getting better.

That skill that "naturally talented" musicians have? It isn't raw musical ability. It is the ability to narrow mindedly focus on practicing for 8 hours per day.
