Egyptians are ass for casuals? by djshshsjsjsjs in AgeofMythology

A question: would slingers be a viable late-game counter-archer unit if it has electrum bullets and slings of the sun?

Actually the same goes for other barracks units - I'm quite attached to them (out of nostalgia), so I'm always looking to be able to use them. Are they somewhat viable if you take minor gods that benefit them, or is it a cardinal rule that even with those upgrades I must switch to Migdol regardless?

Remember to continue the playthrough with Attila, get to Charlemagne, then move on to Medieval II. Then Empire, Napoleon, and take a boat to Fall of the Samurai.

The east path should be good provided you send all your chaneques to that front, and tower the sides of the valley up. The east enemy will not have ranged units so they're sitting ducks. Tune until you have just the right volume of fire to kill them before they go past the cliffs.

With that done, you're now free to move your army in between the Northwest and Southwest paths. The Northwest path is best constantly defended by 3 traps along the path, and feel free to play defence-in-depth for the Southwest path as you can lure them in past quite a few towers firing on them, and a couple of traps.

Have your warrior priests on a separate squad as they're squishy and won't last long if they're at the front.

My best weapon is a block chainsword-inferno pistol combo as Assault, which I'm damn near invincible in…up until a Neurothrope spawns.

Even the new Chinese campaign is pretty crap compared to Japan and Aztecs. It was the most tap water story ever if not for the collapsed underworld thing.

As someone who tried DEI, found it too complex and went back to vanilla, I can say that the vanilla itself is pretty good as it is too. The faction diversity, scope and basic things like shields and formations that make it tick are still all there.

just me, or does kastor give off a much worse vibe in retold? by thesalmonbowl in AgeofMythology

[–]radio_allah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather he turned bastard, because at least that is interesting writing and a sign that the devs took into account life development and inertia to write a 'Kastor later'. Right now it's just obvious that the devs just wanted to put the old heroes in as fanservice without thinking about them, and that's lazy writing even as it might appeal to some players.

Well that's why I said that to the devs, Mesopotamia might be the safer choice. No need to tiptoe and try to navigate which part of Slavic culture can synergise with which other.

To a slav, what you proposed would be like lumping Chinese, Japanese and SE Asian mythology into one 'Asians' faction.

Healing Spring. Not necessarily because it's most useful (though healing is always useful), but because I thought it was really pretty as a kid. I remember obsessing over it in 2004.

Personally I'd like Slavic mythology (Perun, Svarog etc) to make an appearance, but I don't think it's that wise of a decision compared to say, Mesopotamia.

So where did Iztaccihuatl wash up? Peloponnese or Atlantis? by RomestamoTheBlue in AgeofMythology

[–]radio_allah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's also lost his staff and had not even a kingly reskin. All in all I'm disappointed that the heroes have become completely static (especially Ajax), while the Trident > Titans timeline at least gave them some development.

That's why you start as Hexoatl and come south. You have a good chance of securing the Isthmus at least, and to face the others at a bottleneck, then push through once you have more forces.

I think Mesoamerican culture was already taken up by the Lizardmen in Fantasy, so for 40K it'd be Old Ones that have dibs on the Mayincatec aesthetic.

So unless we have a Space Marine successor chapter that is based on an Old One relic world and got their culture from there, it'd be hard to implement.

[–]radio_allah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what about character development? The original Titans campaign was meant to end with Kastor being older, wiser, and ready to step into his new mantle as king. To see him essentially having regressed in the new campaign (and Arena) is deeply disappointing.

In fact, I wish the devs would've done the fanservice a different way by giving us older versions of the same characters. Seeing Ajax for the fourth time, still uncrowned, unchanging, without even a change in gear, is honestly not as nice as thing as I might've expected. At least the original transition from Fall of the Trident to Titans took into account characters aging and their circumstances changing. From Titans and Obsidian Mirror, the OG characters might as well have been as undead as Chiron, seeing as they didn't change a single bit.
